If we sell Walker, ok, he is replaceable and not definitively first choice.

If we sell Rose is send a very negative message to the rest of the squad. The chairman will know that.
How is Walker replaceable and rose isnt? They both arent replaceable but they are both likely to leave. Sending the wrong message hasnt stopped Levy before and it wont this time. The trajectory of the squad means jack shit to him. Bottom line is we are, very much, still a selling club and that wont change for a while. We have a stadium to build and pay for. Just like a tiger doesnt change its stripes, Levy will never change his mo. Churn players and hope for big profits to then reinvest in the team so the rest of the money can be put to something else like wages, the infrastructure and his cut

100% agree with this and would add that at some point we need to bump up the wages of players who have taken us to the next level. We can't pay Man City wages but we should not be paying some of these players as if they were at mid table clubs. They have earned the club millions more than projected in over the last two seasons. If we continue to progress we will continue to earn more in commercial's and full capacity stadiums in the future. We are at a crossroad now is not the time to be messing about with the squad. I say keep everyone you possibly can but release the dead wood. Then a few clever addition's job done. No Levy time Aug 31st nonsense get our business done early please!
Have we not been regularly updating players contracts so that they are being rewarded for performances?
Yes we may be starting from a lower base because we are a well run club, lacking in oil wealth, but all have been happy to extend contracts on this basis.

Not only that but they are very much aware that unlike most clubs we are willing to offer new contracts pretty much annually as their standing in the game improves.

But 5-6 players signed new contracts at the beginning of the season, Walker being one of them. At a guess a rise in his wages would of been included. If we was to offfer him another new one now, but if we fell out the top 4 next season would he accept a reduction to what he was on before we finished in the top 4?

I'll answer that, NOPE!!!

Man City closing on Mendy means Tabloids gonna tone down Rose story... of course it wasn't a story to begin with.

Can't believe this has even got to 5 pages. There's no truth in him going anywhere this summer.

8/11 means he IS likely to stay... 40/1 would be a bit of a worry!
Odds in these betting markets mean next to fuck all. It takes very little money to move the odds dramatically, and the spread will always be covered by bets taken on other outcomes. The bookmakers are very aware that this is not a sporting contest, and that certain people are going to know what the outcome will be, and they react accordingly. If they have any inkling that a decision has been reached due to bets placed they will just shut the market instantly.

On a related note, I tried to put a fairly sizable bet on with Sky(only three figures) on Poch becoming our manager prior to it happening, and my account was suspended and in the end terminated. So they don't mess about when they are not in control of the outcome.

Nah, they'll just switch it to United wanting him etc etc the wankers.

Yep this lol.

I know money talks but if I was Rose I'd seriously prefer to stay with us as squad wise both current and upcoming youth players we are a much healthier proposition, our manager is better at coaching players and improving them, we have an awesome training complex (don't know anything about where Manchester United train so can't comment on that) and a friggin' beautiful stadium that will soon be done (which hopefully will also allow us to bring our wages in line with other top clubs).

There's a difference between being a selling club and not being able to compete with the money of a Man City or the glamour of a Real Madrid.

If a player is lured by either of the above and makes it clear he wants to go, then the club will do its best to secure top dollar.

Utd didn't want Ronaldo to go, but even they, with everything they had going for them at the time (Fergi as Manager, CL finalists, lots of money) couldn't stop him going... that doesn't make them a selling club.

The reality is, that the more clubs there are with bigger wage structures, in addition to the obvious glamour clubs, then the more chance there is of losing your best players.

I can't remember us selling a single one of our best players because of the money that was offered, Berbatov, Carrick, Modric, Bale were all sold because they made it very clear they didn't want to be here anymore. Not because Levy saw the chance to offload and make a big profit.
