It seems that the media dictates more and more to the scheduling of matches. Checkout this article regarding such a proposal. The people who think of these money making ideas have scant regard for how the hard working fan is supposed to organise his travel arrangements early on a Sunday morning. Let's hope the idea fails...

At this rate we'll end up playing at 2 o'clock in the morning so people in San Francisco can watch the game after they finish work

Exactly right...it is disgusting that UK fans have to suffer the inconvenience of these schedules simply so that the likes of Sky can line their pockets even more with foreign viewers. The inmates have taken over the asylum !

Unfortunately the TV deals are worth a lot more to the clubs than match day income.

I agree my friend...but how much more will they be worth when the live coverage shows the football ground 60% empty ?. ..they rely on our attendance but do nothing to guarantee it. Disgusting !

My Sunday league games used to KO at 10:30 am... If I could manage that every week with a hangover, on some wind swept pitch in North Yorkshire, where you couldn't tell mud from cow pat, I'm sure some uber fit millionaires can manage it on the best playing surfaces in the world.

I am sure our millionaire players can manage it too... but the point of this thread is how do thousands of average fans get to see those matches when they are 'outside' normal public transport schedules or the kick off times mean leaving your home at the crack of dawn ??
They are catering for the overseas TV viewer instead of the true club supporters...it will come back to haunt them if they continue..quite literally 'haunt' them as the grounds will look like a ghost town on TV unless they rethink this.

If Newcastle Utd has an away game in London are Newcastle fans expected to travel down the day before and stay at a hotel? That's a bloody expensive trip for a league game. Only a matter of time till they start playing league matches overseas.

Totally agree but how many of them supporters also play on a Sunday morning? They stop playing just to go and watch? I know what my response would have been twenty years ago!

Yes I can see that you usually prefer the 'sit back in my armchair" and make what you think are clever postings about other peoples' threads rather than actually attempt the feat yourself. "C'est facile de critiquer"....as the French say.

Unfortunately match-going fans need to accept that they are not the priority any more. In the grand scheme of things, the few thousand away fans going to the game aren't as important as the millions watching worldwide. That is just the reality of the situation.

I totally agree with you but what if a large number of the home fans struggle to attend also and you are left showing a football match with a half filled stadium of just home supporters...? In saying that though I have watched many a foreign football stream where two top teams are playing and there seem more people in the dugout than the stands.
The power of the media rules unfortunately.....bring back the football rattle I say...that'll confuse the overseas viewers...:)

Hopefully this means Arsenal will play in the furthest part of Eastern Europe on a Thursday night and then have less than 48 hours back in England before getting stuffed on the Sunday morning.

I agree that shifting games around is a pain in the arse, I have to travel quite far to get to games, so planning ahead can be fucked up by games being moved.

I also know a City season ticket holder who often gets completely fucked over by it.

I will say this though, a Sunday morning game is far easier to get to, than getting home after a Sunday evening game.

Gone are the days of all games kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday, so we have to accept that we live in a modern world. However, the fixtures should be organised with match going fans in mind, I've no problem with matches kicking off at lunchtime, or in the evening, as long as they have taken into consideration the traveling fans.

Surely they realise that the happier the fans, the better the atmosphere? Part of the EPLs selling point is the atmosphere.

It's not Sky profiting from foreign TV deals.

I appreciate that my friend... I have just done some digging and found these articles...One dated Feb 2015 but still very interesting :
https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/feb/10/premier-league-tv-rights-grow-sky-sports
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-sells-china-tv-rights-for-564m-report-claims

Most recent :
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...fixtures-could-shown-live-uk-television-2019/

The numbers are staggering but then the 'product' is extremely viable.
