I'm all for signing Barkley, he wouldn't be competing with Lamela or anyone else in the attacking 3. I think Poch sees him as a long term successor to Dembele in the CM2. Barkley - Wanyama/Dier

If the Barkley ITK is true.. Happy days. The kid has talent, absolutely no doubt about that.

Question is, how could can he be.

With Poch managing him...endless.

Luke Shaw, Jay Rod, Ward-Prowse, Danny Rose, Dele, Harry, Tripps....you see my point.

I'd take young raw English Ross in a heartbeat. Poch and JP would make him unplayable.

Top talent but will never even come remotely close to realizing it.

I don't normally buy into this sort of thing, but I think if we don't get Barkley in so that he has at least most of pre-season with us then next season could be a write off for him. I say this because of the natural build/body shape he has and remember the amount of time it took for Dembélé to reach the lean beast shape that saw Poch re-introduce him.
The last 2 or 3 seasons have been like a write off for Barkley to be fair so nothing different. I dont expect him to contribute much at all no matter when we sign him. If everone is fit, he doesnt make the 18.

I didn't read it like that. I thought it being Read Only was by definition Read Only and we couldn't add anything in there anyway.

You can post in there, but it must be approved by a staff member, and no further replies are allowed.

@Archibald&Crooks can we have some clarification on what can and can't go in please?

Generally, it's only for 'regular' ITK, that is, people with some sort of verified past and track record. ITK from randoms won't make it.

Even then, not everything gets in, there are some things that are old, or have already been said that aren't worth repeating. For example, the people who rush breathlessly back to SC in order to be 'first' to tell us that JJetset tweeted he'd had two boiled eggs for breakfest, are wasting their time.

Not everything gets in. We look at it on a post by post basis and it isn't really an exact science, we go by instinct and by experience of what is and isn't worth including.

Seriously mate, you've really got to stop making these sweeping statements.
I'm on the fence regarding Barkley, but it's ridiculous to say he'll never realise his talent, you simply cannot know that.

Im almost certain he wont. He just the footballing brain to come close to the level someone with his talent should be at.

As I've said before, neither was Dembele.
Im not convinced that Barkley has the brain or discipline to be effective deeper.

I'd take him, he is not really like anyone we have and would be a very good option to slot into the front three.

The strong Barkley and Lemar links make me wonder who's going to be sacrificed. We moved away from the 4231 to 3421, meaning starts in that attacking midfield berth are reduced. Alli, Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Sissoko, Nkoudou, Barkley, Lemar, that's a lot of players for two starting spots, even for three spots if we went back to 4231. Assume Sissoko is off, but realistically I think we'd need to lose another two more.

Last season we had 24 in the squad, so that's one space available. IIRC we had ITK that Sissoko was likely to be out and possibly GKN, so that's 3 spaces. We also have 2 or 3 who will still be U21's next season and so, technically won't have to be named in the squad, CCV, Winks and Onomah. That said the last three could get the hump if they are not named in the squad, so I think that's unlikely!

But if he had three boiled eggs, that might be different - right?

A whole lot easier than if he had 2 or 3 years left on his contract :)

Everton may want what they like for him but faced with losing him for free they aren't really in a great position, especially with Levy driving a deal :geek:

All changes if another club comes in mind.....

All depends if Barkley wants us?
He could refuse all over clubs and Everton would have not choice but to deal with us closer to our terms or lose him on a free in 12 months time

No, but from what I've seen of him over the years in the media, and his relationships with his managers at Everton, he's a fairly straight talking guy, and appreciates it from those he deals with.

You got all that from his cameo in coronation street
