Surely if Sessegnon had to choose between us or Man Utd he'd choose us.

Choosing between Poch or Mourinho should be a simple choice if he cares about his career. I doubt his parents would want him to move to Manchester either. If he comes to us he could stay in London.

Really hope he sees past money and chooses us.
I get your point as I also look through 'lily-white tinted' spectacles but for a non- Spurs supporting kid the chance to join Man Utd must be a massive temptation.
They are the biggest club in the country and potentially the biggest name in world football. It must be hard to ignore that.

I said on here a while back and got laughed at, it's make or break time for Levy. Either he comes to terms with reality and ups the wages or we go backwards. Not only missing the players we want, but also losing the players we do have. From current ITK it seems the chickens are already coming home to roost.

Sessegnon has become really difficult due to other clubs.
Really want to be wrong on Lemar but that is not happening
Don't put this in the RO please

Obviously wages a huge issue here. But am I right to question where does our money go. Should this be not something we should question?

The stadium is hugely subsidised with council and government funding stadium naming rights.

Huge tv media money

Minimal net spend.

So why can't we re structure our finances to generate a wage structure to reflect this?

I don't see that as a Silver lining at all. If Sanchez goes they lose their talisman but gaining Lacazette, Lemar and Sessegnon would give them an 'actual team' that could sort a lot of their problems out. I'd rather they stayed a one man team personally.

You could say they sold Elvis and bought the Beatles...

For me, i'd much rather we stick with what we have than splurge relatively huge amounts on essentially squad filler - even if we have to rise above the calls from fans and media alike to spend the cash in fear of being 'left behind'.

Either we secure our prime targets or trust our current team bringing the youth through - no fucking plan C,D,E. etc....

Completely agree. Some fans just want us to spend money regardless. Personally not that bothered if we don't sign anyone, assuming we don't sell anyone.

There are ways round the wages issue that some clubs use to keep the wage bill in line is by paying more in the transfer fee which is kicked back to the player in the form of a termination bonus. Don't know the legality of it and it's all a total cost. Can't see why we don't do this, just ask Man c an extra £5mio for Walker

It's not just the fans though. Danny Rose recently said he hoped we'd bring in some proven talent. The players will want to see some ambition from the club as well. Seems to me that Levy is a bit too fond of rubbing people up the wrong way during transfer negotiations.

Lemar I can deal with - that's just our financial reality at the moment.

But missing out on Sessegnon would be a blow. If we can't even get the best prospects to turn them into the next Alli then what do we do?

I agree that we shouldn't panic buy late in the window for the sake of it, but I'd also quite like to see us to actually secure the signing of a key target every now and then. Wanting us to spend £35-40m and competitive wages on Lemar is totally different to being happy with blowing £30m on Sissoko. Maybe it's that rather just wanting a transfer for the sake of it?

Keeping the excellent team we have together is key but even that is on borrowed time if we continue to try and operate on outdated finances, I think most can see that. I love how into the project Poch is but I'm not sure how happy even he would be to start over again if we had to sell half of the team in 2-3 years time due to underpaying them. Look at it from that perspective and it's fair to fear we could be left behind.

We can. That doesn't mean we can get every one of them we want. Some we'll get, some we won't as with all transfers.

Shit thing is we are a bigger club then some who have transfers on point - Monaco, few Portuguese clubs. We try to operate with a big club mentally hence the bargain bins end of the window

Not bringing anyone in sets a bad example to current players (makes them feel too comfortable/not being ambitious enough), a bad example to the manager (if he can't get his targets) and to the fans. So I expect we will bring somebody in.

But, its not looking good on any particular player or that we are near to completing a deal. In the run up to us signing Wanyama and Janssen last summer there was sustained positive ITK on both coming in. We haven't really had that about a single player this summer, which usually means that nothing is close to happening unfortunately.

Edit: sorry, I thought just about Barkley. Lots of noises that he's coming to us and we are in discussions. Not all positive though obviously.

Nothing new here, money talks always has always will!! Been the same for donkeys years, we are shopping in the bargain bin again and it will cost us in the long run as I see us regressing this year due to playing at Wembley and how shit we were in the champions league, add to this the fact that all teams coming to play us are gonna be up for a match at Wembley! Will be like playing away every week!! This time next year I can see at least alli, rose and ericksen angling for moves away. Hope I'm very wrong.

How come every other team will be up for Wembley, but we'll freeze there?

I don't see how we're shopping in the bargain bin either? We might not be able to match the wages and transfer fee's of the uber rich sides, but only a handful of premier league clubs have paid more for a player than we have. That one didn't work out too well though did it!?!

To be fair these teams have strong links to super agents and in the past have all been a breeding ground for 3rd party prospects, both of which we tend to stay away from. Dortmund is a fairer example, although they have less daunting competition in their league and have been more visible across Europe in recent years.

Unfortunately that is how it looks. But who knows.

Every player we're linked with is either a no go or moving to 'X' team.

Dunno what else to say.

Are you available for motivational speeches for the team next year?
