Not correct as mine is an old box and I still have the 50% off email in my inbox let alone the phone call.

Don't count on the email either.
I received a physical leaflet based offer from them - phoned them up to talk it through the following weekend, and they denied ever sending it!!!
Said the offer code on it wasn't valid, that they couldn't possible offer that deal and that it must have been sent by mistake.
Chances are that the email offer isn't valid more than a week or two either.

Anyway - just went to see about the £20 Fibre & Phone deal and, surprise fucking surprise.... Not for existing Fibre customers. We have to stump up £40 instead.
Can't even switch the £42 Phone, Fibre and Basic TV package.
Customer retention at Sky has gone downhill rapidly.
BT here I come....

Fair enough but can't say I have ever had a problem.

I always used to play the cancellation game and always ended up with around fifty percent off, but no service for a few months. Last time I called them they offered me thirty three percent off for five years with no tie in so I took that. I'll see what these new channel costs are like before deciding what to do this time.

The trick is you have to go through with it.

I ring up and ask to cancel. They ask why and I tell them the reason (too much etc). They then discuss dropping packages which I say I wouldn't want to do and reaffirm my wish to cancel. Then they offer you a minor discount (30%) max normally but sometimes they don't bother.

The trick is to end the call with your sky package cancelled and you starting to serve your 30 day notice. During your 30 day notice they will start making contact from their retentions team where the good deals are (make sure your contact details are up to date and marketing preferences allow contact).

In the last week I have been offered 50% via email and a post and 60% off on the phone. I'm waiting for 75% or 60% + cash back.

Ultimately this may lead to me going without for a few months but the offers will come at some point. For Sky, getting me back even at 75% off is free money as I already own the box and the dish and all they need to do is push the button to set it live again!

This is the main reason I'll never sign up for Sky TV. Knowing I'll be paying three times as much as other people, for the same service.

If the prices were 75% lower as standard, Sky would have been getting my money every month for about 15 years.

It's not really any different to something like car insurance. If you just renew with your company every year you end up overpaying, but if you shop around, or in sky's case make a couple of phone calls, you end up with a better deal.

Yeah I get that, but I think their prices are ridiculous. They obviously start them high to leave them room for retaining customers further down the line, which is great if you've been with them for a while, but of absolutely no interest to me as a potential new customer.

I live opposite a pub and it is literally cheaper for me to watch Sky's Spurs games there for the price of a couple of pints than it is to be paying £70 to £80 p/m.

I've got Now TV now anyway, so I'll see how their Sky Sports on demand works out.

This is the sole reason they've introduced this, Sky actually announced this a while back and it was mentioned briefly in the Kodi thread.
Their aging business model has been in dire need of a shakeup for years, and it's only because they've seen a dip in subscriptions theyve done this.
They're pretty much behind the crackdown on Kodi themselves.
About fucking time too.

Why is it about time? I had SKY for years. And I don't see the point in paying over £130 a month for everything, especially as I've got young twins now. I've now got Kodi and although they've restricted the sport, if Spurs are on I'll pop down the pub. I'm now saving over £100 a month, thanks to Kodi. So for us, it's a life saver. These corporations have bled us dry for years. I'm glad they're getting fucked over now.

The 'about time' comment was aimed at the sky pricing adjustment, not the crackdown on Kodi...although reading it back it's not that clear in truth.

Is the bubble bursting?

I don't think it will be long to be honest. Old fashioned Pay TV services like Sky etc have had their day, when you can get Netflix and Amazon for a price cheaper than their most basic package why would anyone who isn't interested in sport go for Sky or BT.

Admittedly Sky are having a good push at making original shows now, but they are still going to struggle to compete with Netflix. More and more, the biggest shows are coming from Amazon or Netflix funded productions.

Football will always be a big draw for Sky and BT, but the contract can't keep growing at an exponential rate, sooner or later, like every capitalist market, there will be a contraction. How much higher can sky and BT afford to go for a package that isn't even exclusive?

Will I need a set top box for this or will this get added to Now TV?

I have a Now TV Entertainment pass and would go for a Sky Sports Football package for £18 but I don't want to a Sky dish and set top box. I'd rather just stream the games and don't want to pay over £30 for stuff I don't watch.

Does anyone know when Sky will be releasing the list of televised Premiership games for the first part of the season? Cheers.

Sky announced that it was making big changes to its Sports channels last month, and now more details about the new-look package have been unveiled.

The changes will come into effect from Tuesday, July 18. Sky is getting rid of Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, replacing them with 10 channels including dedicated channels for the Premier League, other football, cricket, golf and F1.

One channel pack will be available for £18 per month, two for £22 and three for £26. The full package costs £27.50 per month, a price which will remain frozen for 12 months.
