I don't really see the point in buying a new RB. Tripper is more than capable, but most importantly it's important that we keep let the young players get game time to show em there is a clear path to the first team at Tottenham if you buckle down and work hard. In this particular scenario that young player would be KWP.

The reason this is so important is that we will always lose financially to our nearest competitors, but what we can do is show the top talent around that they should come to us if they want a path to the first team. This is how we end up with the Allis of the world on the cheap.

We're linked with players like Sancho this summer and hopefully sign Sessegnon next summer. I'm sure these players wouldn't look twice at us if it wasn't for our history bringing through players and instead go for the big money.
If we don't have two RBs capable of rotating then we are weaker than last season - and that is criminal neglect. I would love KWP to break through - but you are asking a lot considering we could concievably be play at the Bernabeu on a Wedsneday and the Etihad on a Sunday next season.

Poch has shown that he doesn't want his fullbacks getting over worked.

Who's to say KWP's not that player? He is the next one that should get involved and deserve a backup spot. Not to mention he's used to the way we play by now. Pereira is just as much a gamble, allthough a more exotic player.

Yep. Unfortunately it seems as if there is a very high likelihood the players will be left disappointed though

The ones who mostly wont will be the youth players who we have coming through and the fringe players who, hopefully, after a full season in the squad will be raring to go.

You, yourself have laid into Poch for not giving the youth players you like a chance but you also seem to want to desperately buy players to fill the voids where they might come through and make a name for themselves.

I have huge faith and respect for Poch and I believe a large amount of players do too. By all ITK accounts its his way or the highway so im not sure us not buying expensive shiny new toys will have the extreme negative impact you see to fear. It didnt last year or the year before...

not sure how you are comparing them as equal gambles when Periera has stared for a third placing ligue 1 team and KWP hasn't even played a single minute of top flight football

Oh. I'd seen him say "we need to improve". I hadn't thought he'd said "we need to improve our squad". If you can point me towards that (PM probably better) that would be useful. Ta.

That's not a problem....In his post match interview after we gubbed Hull 7-1 he said and I quote "We have learnt from last season and improved the in the mental areas. After two consistent seasons we have to fight. We must now move on and try to improve our squad".....courtesy of SkySports....other examples are available with a quick internet search...(y)

Clinton and GKN both was established players and big french clubs before coming here. If we go back even earlier we add Stambouli and Capoue to that list. Or Martial at Manchester United.

What I'm saying is Pereira still a huge gamble and will send the wrong message to our youngsters as KWP deserve to be more involved this season. This obviously just my 2 cents and i will leave it at that before i completely derail the thread.

It's going to be a Pessimists v Optimists battle until we make signings, isn't it?

Then the conversation will switch to: 'what a waste of money'/'he'll never adapt'/'we should have gone for such and such instead' v 'cant wait to see how he gets on under Poch'

And repeat, haha...

I think we will buy another player who can play right back but he may be a guy who handles 4-2-3-1 rather than 3 at the back. Alternatively we buy another CB who can play both roles and use Dier at right back when necessary. After all he is a much better crosser of the ball than Walker.

We have lost ONE player from the squad that finished second, we are more experienced , and I suggest we will add some good players. No need to panic.

Every squad needs new faces, even if they are squad players. After last season's performance by our team it would be sacrilege if we did not bring in at least one new face. if Poch wants Barkley lets go and get him now, not in 6 weeks time. It feels that signing new players is left to chance. If they are still available in the last few days of August we will try to get them. If it doesn't happen we make do but that's not how it should be done imo

We can't force Everton to release him now, they hold his registration and will decide when, and if, they will release him.

Sadly this is what always happens until the ball kicking starts again.

That won't stop the arguments...
Which, several days on, are now getting pretty boring. It can go in the Walker thread now because when we get ITK it's frustrating to see that pretty much ignored in favour of yet more RB talk.
