Gotta love plastic fans. We've sold them one player and now we're their feeder club? Yep, makes total sense. How about finishing above us for a change eh?

City are two bob. Was always our bitch and needed a cash injection to play with the big boys. Can't sell out their stadium either. Decent history no doubt but they need to pipe down.

They like to see it as a feeder club, but Arsenal saw it as a way of selling players at a premium to improve the side. Look at who went up there - Adebayor, Clichy, Nasri, Kolo Toure. None of those 4 are world beaters but they all commanded a high fee (Clichy was 7m, the lowest of the 4). Sagna went there on a free as well.

The same season they sold these players, they bought: Vermaelen to replace Toure, Oxlade-Chamberlain to replace Nasri, and the summer Sagna left they brought in Sanchez and Welbeck (obvs not connected). When Adebayor left they still had Van Persie. Bellerin joined when Clichy left.

Point is, they sold when they felt it was the right time - at a high fee - because they had players coming in or ready to be promoted. They rotated the squad pretty well, maintaining the level (3rd-4th in the league) and setting up to buy more expensive players like Sanchez and Ozil eventually.

Players come and go. What Spurs must do now is buy sensibly. Losing Walker doesn't have to be a disaster or a sign of ambition either way.

That is a very good point, I hadn't quite considered it like that beforehand. Have always had a laugh at Arsenal for it but in reality it was a good thing for them.

I might be wrong but I seem to recall that all these players had managed to run down their contracts. Also seem to remember having the impression that Man City had underpaid for these a bit for these players due to their contract status.

That is correct. One lesson Wenger's never learned and that I'm so glad our Dear Leader has.

25m for Adebayor, 16m for Toure in 2009. 25m for Nasri in 2011. That was still pretty high for then, regardless of their contracts. They made a profit on all three and a year before Adebayor left, they had sold Henry to Barca for less.

I don't think it's as much about being spiteful as not being held to ransom by one of our players or by one of our competitors. It's send the wrong message plus, with the squad we appear to be building I genuinely see Spurs as one of our major competitors next season. Why let them have a top notch player for a bargain price.

  1. NilSatisOptimumPlayer Valuation: £225k

Hmm depends on the offer from Spurs tbh
Not really a step up Spurs. I can understand Lukaku going to Utd. Spurs have shown already they are having to sell to strengthen the squad. If he ends up there it will speak volumes about his character and his reputation and confirm his plateauing footballing ability's.

Really ? Fuck off you deluded Scouse blue nose ****!!!! A few million spent on average shit and suddenly Spurs is not a step up on 7everton. Spurs are a huge step up and I think most these Scouse pricks know it.

i've seen a few comments on that site about how they have strengthened enough to challenge for the top 4.
I can't see it myself, all they've done is sell their best striker and brought in a few ok players and a good young GK.

We are not a huge step up. We are a slight step up that has done quite well in the league the last two years.

Disagree. We are miles better than Neverton and have been for years. Barkley coming to us would be a huge step up. Going from finishing 7th to title contenders and in the CL is a huge step up.

Last summer would you have said leicester was a huge step up from everton?
We have done well the last couple of seasons but our trophy haul in the last 10 years is a joke.
Don't go all rawk and start thinking we are some mega club.

You know that's not what he's saying. For a start, how many times have we played in Europe over the last 10-15 years compared to them? How many CL qualifications? The level of competition in which we appear has been consistently higher than them for a long time now

I remember all this from Southampton fans when we trying to sign Schneiderlin.

The last few seasons we have finished 17, 23 and 25 points ahead of them, that is a huge gap imo.

Prior to those 3 seasons I'd agree that there wasn't much between us.

The last few seasons we've finished above man utd and liverpool. I doubt many players would see us as a massive step up on them. That's because it is more complicated than that.

All i amsaying is don't be arrogant. We have a better team than everton at the moment and are heading in the right direction. A player would probably choose us over everton. But we are not a massive club to them. We have won fuck all for years.
