Not technically Spurs Youth-related, but I've been told that this is true - we tried to attract Sancho: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...enham-tried-transfer-manchester-city-10805801

Presumably, if we'd been able to secure Sacho as part of the Walker deal, we could have agreed the transfer fee and add on clauses structure, whereas if we get him because he declines to sign a professional contract with City, they'll get compensation through the tribunal system.

Given there were press reports that City had offered him the most lucrative contract of any 17-year-old in world football, would that salary be a key factor in determining the compensation?

I never did completely understand how any compensation from Palace for Nya Kirby was arrived at.

If we got Sancho, City probably get a record amount of compensation for a player his age but even then it wont be much and compensation tends to be performance based

Thanks.

Any idea what compensation we got for Kirby?

I'm not sure we got much if anything, did we? We held Chelski up for a hefty fee & a potential charge of tapping up, If they weren't willing to pay up then I'd be surprised if Palace would have done just that. So, one assumes that either we agreed to accept a lower fee from Palace or let him go for nothing to demonstrate our power in deciding his next move.

@Spurzinho - thank you.

In the part of your post I've bolded, I assume you're not suggesting that the club have an ongoing underlying contractual interest in Kirby, but rather that we decided to block the move to Chavsk as a matter of principle, and were more accomodating in not demanding an extortionate fee from Palace?

However, I still don't understand why we simply didn't insist on the tribunal determining the compensation from Palace. I know many informed posters here rated Kirby very highly, and were gutted when we lost him.

I'm guessing here. I don't know any of the details of the Palace deal.

I believe Tashan Oakley-Boothe is the same age group as Nya Kirby, and IIRC there were rumours that other clubs tried to tap him up around the time NK left. So I'm pleased TOB's loyality is being rewarded through his involvement in first team pre-season training.

I'm a keen follower of this thread. Thanks to all of those who contribute.

What is the story with @Spursidol? Is he forum weary of has something (hopefully not awful) happened to him?

Surely him coming from Watford originally would keep the compensation down too?

Tottenham Academy‏@thfcacademy 4 minutes ago

Luke Amos and Shayon Harrison will be heading out on loan.

Tashan Oakley-Boothe and Kazaiah Sterling will be part of the first team squad travelling to America tomorrow.

Poch and McDermott are making some decisions.

Do we think this means that Sterling is now ahead of Harrison in the back-up striker pecking order?

Interesting too that TOB is travelling to the US, presumably as part of our CM/DM squad depth. From what I've seen, TOB is more naturally talented than Amos, but not as tenacious.

Looks like Harrison and Amos are in the shop window for buying clubs. No word on if Edwards will be going to America? Was hoping he would get some minutes on the tour. Would be good to see a few more youth players given some game time as well. Looking forward to seeing how TOB looks alongside some first team players. I'm going to the match on Saturday can't wait.

I'd be astonished and concerned if Edwards didn't go on the tour. It would not bode well. We can also expect KWP to go & I'm assuming CCV.
Yeah, I'd count those as first team squad players now.

I thought KWP was now part of the first team squad, white socks and all ?

Well we hear different things on KWP. One minute he's going to be first choice back-up, and then next minute he's only hanging around until we bring someone in and then he can go on loan...so it remains to be what we actually do with him. I'd very much like to see him given at least until January to show he can cut it as a squad player but its not my decision.
