I can't see why you think that poster was having a dig at you, it seemed a perfect reasonable response to the question.

Because he was inferring I wasn't excited about Ccv.When I hadn't even offered an opinion.I was genuinely asking for other people's opinion on him.

last season there were so many posters demanding this guy be our backup CB and saying how he's ready etc, when the Liverpool and Wycombe games showed he's not ready yet. Good experience for him last night and I'm sure he'll learn from it, but should be nowhere near our first team for a competitive game yet.

Was at the game and he really struggled today, anything but solid and Jan had to bail him out a number of times. Only thing in his defense was that the whole right side was a bit exposed defensively, with KWP getting caught upfield on quite a few occasions and Onomah used wrongly on the wing again and drifting infield which he's always likely to do when playing there.

CCV is the same age (19) as Judas and Ledley when they became regulars in the first team.

However Judas was a beast and played his first full season at either left or right back. Ledley started in central midfield.

My point is that that central defence is a tough position for any inexperienced young player to play in at the top level. He needs to go out on loan to gain experience as he is not going to chances in any other position.

I think CCV will be fine, in time. He is 19 and you do not see many 19 year old CBs step into a top side. Our style requires even more experience due to the pressing that we do. I think one of the reasons we do not want Dier to go anywhere is that he is the insurance policy if anything happens to Toby. I expect CCV to stay and play early in cup matches and continue to learn from Poch,Toby and Jan.

We had the best defence in the league two years running with the two best centre backs and full backs in the league marshalling the back line, we play at such a ridiculously high level so that anyone who comes in who isn't on the same wavelength as the regular back fours will always look out of place, same thing was said of Dier last season and it's evident that same was always going to be said of CCV when he plays., It's very hard to judge players who come in for a game or so because they're nowhere near as good as our regular and there's no shame in that...that's why they are backups.

I don't agree that CCV needs a loan where he'll pick up silly habits, what he needs is time and patience, keep learning the philosophy and the style of play and in turn he'll mature, I have faith in the management in what they see in him and if they think that he's better off staying at Spurs to learn then I'm with that.

Totally agree, you can't judge anyone in pre season when there are so many rusty players on the pitch at one time. Give him time and don't go for the pitchforks just yet!

Needs time and patience but at the moment im no overly sure he is the second coming like many made him out to be.

He makes some strange choices but then you could see his raw athletic ability at times.

At the moment I think Caulker was much better at this stage and we seen what happened with his career

Looks a bit nervous to me, however seems to be improving little by little each time I see him for the first team, getting a little sharper and a little less clumsy. Reminds me a touch of Kane's progression - has the mental ability perhaps, but lacking the sharpness needed for the senior game where a split second can make all the difference.

Interested to see how he progresses.

Was a tad unlucky with the pen, thought he looked decent, a right little beefcake but needs to get better with the ball at his feet

The people saying give him time are the same people who say we need to win something to retain the spirit of togetherness (in the absence of a willingness to pay competitive wages).

Join the dots to understand why this kid cannot be in our domestic cups first eleven, and why we need to dip into the market to find someone more ready for the task.

Whether he stays or goes on loan, he's got lots and lots to work on.

This is a player that really needs a loan in the Championship. Still very young, even more so for a CB. Not a solution as cover for first choice players, not this season.

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/new-contract-and-blades-loan-for-carter-vickers-250817/

Cameron Carter-Vickers has signed a new contract with the Club until 2020 and has joined Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Sheffield United not a bad place to develop as a defender - Harry Maguire, our former Kyles and apparently Phil Jagielka. At last we're getting loans that will benefit our youngsters rather than sending them off to the lower leagues.

Some onions from Blades fans:

Big unit but an athlete and good on the ball.

I'm pretty sure he's very highly rated at spurs and has been in and around the first team. U less I'm mixing it up with another double barrelled prospect. One of many (y)

Exactly the type of signing we should be making imo - will have learned a thing or 2 in the training with the prems best defence

You're getting a good player lads, been highly touted for years but needs this loan. He's good on the ball, reads the game well and is an absolute unit.

Looks like a reyt fucking unit, tbf.

Could go either way this. On the one hand Spurs clearly rate him highly and he's been in their first team squad on a few occasions. On the other he's reportedly made big mistakes in the few games he's started for Spurs and has looked poor

You've got to take the standard into account - these spurs fans have been watching probably the best centre back paring in the league if not world football for the last few years - almost anyone else will suffer in comparison to those guys. Much more so an 18/19 year old who make an error.

Sounds like a loan spell is the best thing for all parties

I'm not going to write the lad off but it's a pretty big risk going for someone so inexperienced to shore up our defence.

Sounds like everything we could want in a young centre back - it's no huge risk and exactly the type of player we should be looking to loan. Could also put us in a decent position if he decides to move on from Spurs in the future

I hope we get him. Exactly what we need, strong, athletic and composed. This from seeing him play, not reading about him. Saw him in the U20 WC a couple of years ago and he looked like a man amongst boys. Seen him a few times since and has always impressed, for me he would walk into our team at the moment as an upgrade.I was very pleasantly surprised that we look like getting him as I thought that he was way out of our league.

He will surprise you. Played a few times last season for spurs and did well. I have been championing this guy since he was 17 and I think will be a better player than lenihan. Prefer to save money for a partner for billy.

Just hope you can get over the obsession with spending money as though it means something

Then there's a bit of chat about why he's got a double barrelled name. Seem like they generally approve.

Some good, sensible comments there - thanks for digging them out.
