It's like with us and Walker.

At the start everybody freak out, but when we knew he's gone we suddenly agree Trippier is better and Walker was "the weakest part of our first 11".

Everton will miss him badly. As will we with Walker.
Not to nitpick but "We" didn't agree shit. Many of "We" have far more advanced psychological coping skills and don't need to immaturely react to loss or rejection. Many, or some, of "We" are easily able to reconcile the manager-decided loss of Walker and his relative superior qualities without overly building-up the serviceable Trippier/demeaning Kyle's ability and 9 years of service. Additionally, at least 1 of "We" loses just a bit more faith in humanity when he sees 'adults' behaving in this manner.

Another agent leak it seems - similar stories in the Mail and Mirror:

#thfc Spurs are interested in Barkley but his wage demands (I've heard around 140k p/w) & Everton's asking price preventing a deal right now

#thfc On Ross Barkley: There is interest from Spurs but no talks at the moment due to fee and wages.
Odd that they all tweeted at same time; 2 journalists above, Mirror, Mail and other journos.

Definitely a leak from someone

Probably have some movement on this tomorrow when the Gylfi news breaks .

But apart from that we will also probably have all the levy pr spin tomorrow itk wise.

And the news stories are breaking right on cue about money issues... Seems the journos have been briefed...

What is the Gylfi news? Tried looking on here but didn't see anything. It's pretty clear that the Gylfi transfer delay is holding up our move for Barkley, but I can see why, as Everton are essentially hoping we can fund the move for Siggurdson. Stupid assumption though considering Swans rejected £40m and Everton will get nowhere near that for a player that hasn't had as good a season as Gylfi, is in the last year of his contract, and isn't even favoured by Koeman. Levy knows this, of course, hence why he's probably thinking £20-25m max and will hold out until Everton are forced to sell on deadline day. Not great for us though.

To be honest, Swansea are asking way too much for Sigurdsson, even in this over-inflated market. He's good, but he's not world class, and the longer they drag the transfer out the less time they'll get to find their own replacements. I guess they're hoping Everton give up and the player decides to stay as a result, but that would be very naive.

I would guess a Spurs PR leak. Who else would have on hand contact info for multiple Spurs journos to leak the same line at once?

I don't buy the reported 140k wage demands.

If that was the case we should have dropped our interest months ago as we would have known about his demands ages ago. No way are we as a club that clueless.

Understand the impasse over the fee, but the apparent wage demands perplexes me. Surely we would of sounded that out a while ago, and if those figures are anyway acurrate we would of swiftly moved on a while ago.

Probably from us.

Let the fans down gently before we resign Stambouli on loan on the last day of the window.
I doubt it would be so bad as resigning Stambouli. Probably more likely an Everton deal for Gylfi gets announced and Spurs don't want fans expecting us to make our move right away because deadline day levy gonna deadline day (whether he needs to or not)

The wages stuff sounds unlikely to me..a bit roundabout, but it could just be a general message to reinforce our structure

So apart from these slight stumbling blocks it's a done deal …

The £140k/w number is just something that Kirkpatrick said he had heard, probably from the same source that was at the bottom of all of the reports a week or two back. Those stories were quickly shot down by other journos and JJ so I think we can assume he's wrong about the exact figures.

It does seem that the club have leaked this so I assume we are still negotiating on wages and are trying to send the message that Barkley and his agent need to back down a bit. If his demands were truly unworkable I think we'd have known by now and would have moved on.

140k a week and he'd probably be our top earner, wasn't there a story a few weeks back about how he wouldn't insist on being one of the top earners?

Cannot see how wages would be the final deciding factor with everything else done and dusted. Surely that is one of the 'personal terms' that would be discussed at the beginning ?...what's the transfer fee and how much will the salary be must be the two most pivotal factors in any proposed deal. Personally, following Poch's recent statement about pending business I believe this will be 'over the line' no later than Tuesday night. (y)

Barkley refuted the £120k story three weeks ago when somebody first made it up, I wonder why he is now asking for £140k a week.
Absolute fucking rubbish.
