While I'm not sure I'm prepared for that experiment (though will bow to Pochettino's experiment if he is), the idea of Sissoko at right wing back is interesting and if successful could even save a huge transfer outlay. We've seen a few wingers converted to right wing back lately with a lot of success, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Moses, Valencia and on the face of it Sissoko could have the raw materials for it. Just comparing him to the right back we just sold, he has comparable pace and strength to Walker, like Walker his touch and intelligence aren't amazing and like Walker he has amazing athleticism but not the greatest technique/ delivery. He might not be a defender, but was Walker ever a great defender or did he just rely on his pace to get him out of trouble?

I say all this having been a huge fan of Walker from pretty much my first glimpse of him, before he'd properly broker through.

If Sissoko was prepared to put in the work rate and effort of Walker then he could actually be a success in that role, buy KWP a little longer to improve and give our side the same balance it's had the last few years. It could also be a massive disaster, but if they've worked on it in training it may well be worth trying.

All of that said, I'd still rather see a 4231, Sissoko on the right in front of KWP (with protecting KWP a big part of his remit) and a central midfield partnership of Dembele Dier.

Sissoko doesn't appear to have a footballing brain to adapt to formations in the manner we would expect. He's core strengths are his pace and power which is OK in a role that is less disciplined but not that of a wing back.

Unfortunately we are running out of options for Sunday and given that Newcastle appear on paper to offer little then Sissoko may get away with performing to expectations. I would be more worried if he's in this role when we play Chelsea

Only one position up for grabs as far as i can tell, who plays in the three behind Kane with Dele and Eriksen, between Winks and GKN for me, with GKN getting the nod as his pace could be useful and he's looked half tidy in pre-season:

Hugo
Dier - Verts - Toby - Davies
Victor - Dembele
Eriksen - Dele - GKN
Kane
Edit - forgot about Sissoko, wouldn't surprise me if he played instead of GKN.

God help levy if this game goes badly.

I would wager there hasn't been a top 4 team (let alone runner up) that has gone into the first game of the next season with no fit, senior right back.

I'd play KWP ahead of Sissoko at RWB every time. KWP knows the job and Sissoko doesn't. We saw how effective the tactic was with Son at LWB in the Cup v Chelsea. Sissoko probably has no idea how to operate an offside trap or many other aspects of WB play. Looks like a massive accident waiting to happen to me.

Christ almighty. Both Dier and Toby have extensive periods at RB under their belt - not ideal, but we do have cover. FFS

Whilst I get what you mean and maybe things arent as drastic, would you be happy that the leagues best defender is shifted to RB? By its very nature that weakens us already

I mean, of the two I'd just play Dier at RB

This is likely Newcastle team.If we can't beat this we have a problem.

Elliot Manquillo (Yedlin out) Lejeune Clark Dummett Ritchie Hayden (Maybe Merino) Shelvey Atsu (Maybe Murphy) Perez Mitro (Gayle a doubt)

are you by any chance a heavy drinker or just a bad memory?

Sissoko played the position in our 6-1 away win at Leicester

Bad memory, I remember 4 goals for Kane andmuch joy generally.

Did he play well?

well he was better than having nothing and wasn't at fault if my shit memory serves me right for the goal conceded. think he made a break for 1 of Harry's goals, but he was definitely our right wing back that night
