First round was drawn in Thailand, sooo...

It's all a bit weird. I never want us to completely sack off a tournament but I'm almost at the point where I don't mind about this cup. It's becoming a joke.

It's a silly name for a cup so a silly time for the cup draw makes sense. It's only a matter of time till the League Cup final is played overseas. The Football League gets its money and PL teams get the chance to fulfill their fantasy of playing a competitive match in Asia.

I'm sure you're all thinking this but it's a bit like when Phoebe moved out of Monica's flat in Friends. Bit by bit she moved out her possessions until one day it's all like 'Hey Phoebe, where's your bed?'.

Yeah, that's what's happening.

Only ever cared about it when it was the Worthington cup

It only mattered when it was the Coca Cola Cup. Apparently, it was up there with the World Cup, the European Cup, and the European Cup Winners' Cup.

The league cup went through a real bad spell & looked doomed but over the last 10 years it's had a resurgence.
The final over the past decade or so has always had a big side (other than Swansea v Bradford).
However gimmicks like this could drag it down again; the big clubs will rest a lot of players & argue that they're reflecting the nature of the tournament and it's sponsors.
Early Kick off times for the Far East I understand but why the fuck should someone in Thailand find out who we get before us?!
The football league really don't help themselves do they.

Isn't the CL group stage draw on Thursday also?

Fixture overload.

interesting stuff. Instead of the 39th game, if they insist on still having a 2nd cup comp, they should play the later stages overseas too.

Seven hours time diff between London and Beijing during BST, so they need to sort that out...

Considering the FA still haven't successfully worked out how to punish players who dive, I think moving cities so that the time difference isn't a problem may be beyond them.

Why is the FA making such a pointless tournament even more useless by making the draws an international sideshow? Shouldnt they be trying to big up the minnie mouse cup not fucking it off?
Why are they allowing companies to sponsor a cup when they already sponsor a club? Does the expression conflict of interest mean anything or does the integrity of the cups fly out the window in the name of the almighty dollar? Mind boggling

A spokesman said: “We understand that not everyone will agree on the timing of this week’s round-three draw, but in staging it this way it will give the competition both the maximum exposure in the UK, Chinese and South East Asian markets. This is not only an important factor for the EFL but also our new sponsors Carabao, who, like ourselves, plan to use the growing global appeal of the competition to reach new audiences.

“Once the logistics have been completed in Beijing, the UK will be waking up and the breakfast media will be able to report and get reaction on the 16 ties that will take place next month, which we feel is an interesting move away from the usual post-game evening draws.

“The round-three draw itself is not being televised live in China or anywhere else but the EFL will be providing full coverage across its Carabao Cup twitter feed, with news and reaction as it happens.

“Our decision to go to China is part of a strategic plan to grow the EFL internationally and specifically boost profile and exposure in ASEAN markets.

“A number of potentially significant meetings are being held around the draw that we envisage will deliver a benefit to all 72 clubs of the EFL.”

When I was in Thailand earlier this year, a taxi driver had free bottles of Carabao to give away to customers as part of their marketing. I didn't buy it again, and I like Asian versions of energy drinks (the syrup in a glass bottle stuff). I go for the Krating Daeng (Red Bull) and the M150.

Isn't it a bit dodgy not to have it televised anywhere? If they want to increase exposure, constructing high profile matches could be in their interests...

Quite happy to stick the boot in to The FA, but isn't this the Football League's decision and nothing to do with The FA?

I really can't work out why they don't do it at 8pm in China. Not only peak time there but at least it will be lunch time here so gives some people the chance to follow it.

I kinda thing having the draw in Asia is part of the contract for sponsoring the cup...

It's not just the draw. I am sure the original trophy is there for display and for people to take photos with and stuff.

Think they are trying to increase the profile of the competition. Yeah we all know about the FA Cup being the oldest footballing cup, and how important the league is and European competition... But the EFL Cup has always been less important... And hence its harder to find a sponsor.

I think the organiser must have really tried hard to find a sponsor this season after failing to find one to replace capital one last season. They might have agreed to some weird conditions. I won't complain if we win it thou. Lol
