Liverpool consider letting Divock Origi leave before deadline day

Divock Origi may be allowed to leave Liverpool before Thursday’s transfer deadline after slipping down Jürgen Klopp’s Anfield pecking order.

The Belgium striker is yet to start a game this season and has made only one substitute appearance, in the 3-3 draw with Watford.

Origi was not even on the bench for Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier victory over Hoffenheim this week because Klopp preferred Daniel Sturridge and youngster Dominic Solanke as his substitute strikers.

Fearful he would miss out on a place in Belgium’s World Cup squad if he spent the season on the bench and in the stands, Origi is keen to play first-team football.

Liverpool have indicated they may be prepared to let him leave before the transfer window shuts on Thursday night if they can complete the other business they are looking to do.

They are interested in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, though Chelsea leading the race to sign him, but they have other targets, too.

Tottenham Hotspur may be attracted by Origi’s potential availability, having shown an interest in him in the past. Vincent Janssen is for sale and Spurs are looking to sign a forward to cover and play with Harry Kane.

Marseille have also shown an interest in Origi, while Anderlecht would be interested in taking him back to Belgium on loan.

After signing for Liverpool from Lille for £10 million, Origi has scored 12 goals in only 21 Premier League starts and last season netted in five successive appearances in all competitions during November and December.

Klopp has always spoken positively about Origi and would ideally like to keep him in his squad for Liverpool's Premier League and Champions League campaigns this season.

But there is also an acceptance within the club that Origi should be rewarded for patiently waiting for first-team chances.

If he's fearful of losing place in World Cup squad then coming here would be last thing he should do. Kane will start nearly every game so he'd just be stuck on bench doing same thing as does at Liverpool.

He's been rubbish whenever I've seen him but he does probably have some potential. I think he's the type of player who needs to start every week to ever make it, he won't get that at Spurs and I think for that reason he would be a pointless signing.

Who would we prefer? Him or VJ, if we had a choice?

TBH? VJ. Specialist at holding up play, fits perfectly to what we require of our system. DO is a great player/prospect, but he's too much of a hybrid for my tastes. Feel like he wouldn't fit into a specific role. Leaving us to adjust the system to him, and he's not of that caliber... yet ;)

I'd snap him up - powerful, fast, good in the air, good feet and used to the high press. Can play wider using his physicallity and pace

I highly doubt Liverpool would sell to us, mind

According to the commentators when he's playing for Liverpool, he's up there with Ronaldo. He's even in the always say his full name club with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alexis Sanchez
