It's a shame Mayweather didn't lose early in his career. I reckon he would of been a much more entertaining fighter without that albatross on his back.

Connor got hurt worse by Diaz for a lot less money. It's a triumph of marketing that anybody actually thought he had a chance against Mayweather. Nobody would give Mayweather a chance against McGregor in a MMA fight so why would anyone think Connor had a chance in a boxing match? Bizarre .

Absolutely. To be honest, if it's money Connor wants, why not have another boxing match? Obviously keep well away from quite a lot of fighters where he would face serious risks to his health, but Malignaggi makes absolute sense now.

He's feather fisted, past it and would be bang up for it, the "beef" is already there too. I bet he'd make more, and probably a lot more, fighting Malignaggi than he would going straight back to UFC and risk getting ragdolled by Khabib or Ferguson.

I get it and I went to school with a pro boxer (now retired) who wanted mayweather to win. But I do think there is an odd snobbery in the boxing world. I have no doubt many are purists of the sport but when I hear some of them go on about it "embarrassing the art form" etc it makes me laugh . A lot of these lads just love a punch up, grew up scrapping and attending un licenced fights etc but now it's for the art? Fuck off

It's just a bunch of meat heads. Thick tossers who get thicker with every blow to their empty heads.

I generally live by the creed 'each to their own', but find it embarrassing that so many adults treat this stuff seriously.

The thing is, Mayweather has been fighting way above his natural weight for nigh on a decade now. Floyd was much more exciting and and actually a better fighter back in the lighter weights. Has he got heavier his output reduced considerably.

Go and watch his fights against Corrales and his earlier stuff. Sheer brilliance

He became more cautious as he got heavier but that's because a lot of the time he's facing bigger men, and he couldn't throw as many shots himself.

This is the first PPV I have refused to buy in about 10 years. Absolutely pointless... as I kept saying to all the bandwagon boxing fans who all of sudden became experts on how Mcgregor had a punches chance... Mayweather doesn't nothing that Mayweather won't win. He is the master of eliminating risk and this was the easiest payday of his career.

So whilst the real boxing fans look forward to the biggest fight of the year the bandwagon to go back talking shit until the next Joshua fight.

This post is the an example of the worst kind of sports snob out there.

You like boxing, people who watch this clearly like boxing so why turn it into a dick measuring contest to prove who is a "real" fan?

If you have an opinion you should be perfectly capable of discussing it without trash talking others. If you can't you will quickly find people won't be interested in what you say anyway.

Can't believe people spunked $100 to watch a novice without the conditioning to go 12 rounds fight an old man who hasn't fought competitively for two years. Joshua - Klitschko was a much better fight and hell of a lot cheaper to watch.

It was £20 in the UK, around the same as Joshua Klitschko....for those who paid.

He didn't even use the word pugilism, some 'real' fan that is :woot:

US ppv is always a lot more than the UK but Joshua Klitschko iirc was cable TV and not ppv in the US.

Yeah i get that, but considering the vast majority on here aren't US based i thought id point that out, it wasn't more expensive.

Not a surprise to me that Macgregor tired in a sport medium he hasn't fought professionally in before, imo, he hasn't displayed the best of gas tanks in MMA.

Still think his MMA rep is inflated to a degree as well, and still waiting to see him fight a really good wrestler with solid standup. Frankie Edgar for instance.

So there's nothing that you're marginally interested in, fir which you'll engage in the hype on the odd occasion but you don't follow obsessively?

Never taken an interest in the Oxford Cambridge boat race without being a rowing fanatic? The Tour de France without being a cycle freak? Can't watch the Rugby World Cup final unless you've spent the past 4 years being an expert on it?

Come on ...

Don't know about ILS, but personally I've never shown an interest in any of the examples you've given. When England won the rugby World Cup I didn't give a shit because I have zero interest in that sport.

Never been one to board the hype train.

Exactly this, i couldn't give two shits about track and field for the majority of the time, but i bloody love it when the Olympics and WCs come around, same goes for quite a few sports....its possible to be a fan of a sport without being obsessive about it.

I didn't watch any of the London Olympics either!

Yes and no. While I hate the word 'casual' in boxing terms, the hype here in Ireland has been nothing short of ridiculous. Women and kids who have barely watched a fight before are suddenly experts and it's Conor this and Conor that. I wouldn't mind if these people continued to watch boxing after developing an interest in it due to this fight but the vast majority will just jump off the bandwagon as quickly as they got on it.

The actual events aren't the point, substitute for whatever. Point is being able to take a passing interest in major events without being belittled or mocked for it by 'real fans'

You must have an interest in some other sports though mate?

Yeah I do. F1, snooker, and American Football, but I've been following those sports since I was about 8 or 9.

The closest I get to being a fair weather fan is the Ashes, but even with that I used to watch Kent play regularly in the 80s and 90s before I realised how boring it was.

Yeah i have to agree on the Cricket thing, test cricket is just dull these days, although like you i'll be all over the Ashes. Bloody love the limited overs stuff though.
