I wouldn't mind if these people continued to watch boxing after developing an interest in it due to this fight but the vast majority will just jump off the bandwagon as quickly as they got on it.
But the underlying question here is: Why does that bother you?

Although a lot won't care about boxing until the next hyped up fight comes around, for a fair few (especially younger fans) this will be what sparked their interest and could lead to a lifetimes interest in the sport...you probably got hooked because of a superfight from the past?

Really annoyed the ref stopped the match so early. McGregor was completely right in what he said, it was fatigue, not damage. The ref should have let him gone down once. He had his hands up and was slipping punches albeit quite a few were getting through. Soured what started off as a decent boxing match.

Didn't watch last night, but turned on SSN this a.m, just as Mayweather was being interviewed in the ring. I took one look at his face and thought: I knew it - it went 2 rounds.

That is a fair point. If it gets a whole host of kids interested in the sport then that's a great thing. They aren't to know the real reason why this bout took place, they just got excited by it and as such it might lead them to having a look in their local gym. Result!

Yeah i have to agree on the Cricket thing, test cricket is just dull these days, although like you i'll be all over the Ashes. Bloody love the limited overs stuff though.

By the way, I'm not judging anyone. If people want to show an interest in a sport due to hype that's normal. I know plenty of people who have no interest in football but will go to the pub to watch England in the World Cup. Same with the Olympics. I think it's great that people show an interest in it, it just doesn't do anything for me.

Floyd carried him and didn't get out of first gear. No point in letting anyone take unnecessary punishment. Hammer punching unconscious bodies has never been what Boxing is about thankfully. McGregor was ridiculously out of his depth and he was starting to take shots that had him all over the place. Ref made the correct call imo.

Indeed I did. The Tyson days as an 11 or 12 year old. My gripe is with the bandwagoners who insisted they were going to be right. This morning they're flaming anyone who posts negativity about a fellow Irishman - "you're not patriotic" and the like. Just does my head in.

Fatigue leads to a drop in punch resistance and that's when damage can get done. Conor was done. Pointless letting it continue imo.

Surprised it went that long. Mayweather said it was all part of the game plan but I bet there was some kind of incentive in there for him to make the fight last longer than it normally would have. You've got to respect Mayweather's record though, shame he comes across as a bit of a tit, maybe that's just his fight persona to draw interest though.

Exactly, McGregor was gone, he wasn't defending himself so the ref done the right thing and stopped him being knocked unconscious a few seconds later...which for medical risks alone isn't a good idea.

It's no surprise that McGregor wanted to continue. Most fighters do in that situation. But he was in effect defenceless and wide open to serious, permanent injury. No way that it should have been allowed to go on.

Fair play to Conor for not looking too out of place in a boxing ring. It kind of went as I expected just went longer than I thought. Conor fades after round 2 in UFC so this was actually progress for him. He hit that wall in round 9 after a fast flurry at the start of the round. You could tell the fight was over for him at that point. Mayweather played the fight perfect though. Stayed calm early on and weathered the storm by using his expert defence and drain Conor. I thought Mayweather was really tricky ducking his head a lot and letting McGregor take his back so the ref would separate them. He used his experience well.

I think it just shows why amateur boxers fight less rounds than professional boxers do. Conor needs to fight some more 9 round fights in boxing. Although I doubt we'll see him in boxing again. This was the big money fight but there's nothing else in boxing on that scale at his weight class. Any fight now would be a drop down in competition in the boxing ring. I think he will have earned a lot of respect from boxing and MMA fans alike. To challenge one of the GOAT in his world and get to round 10 (even if Mayweather allowed it to go that far) was impressive.

This for me was a good fight. Better that the Manny fight and better than a lot of other fights with Mayweather.

I think anyone who's annoyed the fight was stopped for any reason other than seeing an actual knockout probably moments later is in denial. McGregor looked to be finished anyway.

For what it was, it wasn't the worst fight I've ever seen.
At least Mayweather didn't stay defensive throughout, he just fought to his own strengths.
Connor was always going to come out and attack during first 3/4 rounds, but after that Mayweather would always be in control because of his familiarity with longer fights.
Fair play to McGregor for stepping outside his comfort zone.

With regards to Mayweather and defensive boxing, is it not the same as a football ram that sticks men behind the ball and then hits on the counter attack??
Sure, it's not ideal for the spectator, but Flloyd is 40, and way outside his prime years.
I know my own reaction times etc are nowhere near what they used to be, much as I try to deny my gradual aging.

I do think both of them are completely different people outside of the big fight scenario. McGregor seemed a lot calmer and, dare I say it, somewhat humble after the fight.
Those personalities are needed in such a sport as, without them, there's not much to help build a fight.

I haven't watched the fight yet, but Mayweather's legacy has been damaged because it took him 10 rounds to get rid of guy who has never boxed professionally.

I think his legacy was damaged by even agreeing to the fight tbh.

If Mayweather was the same age as McGregor you might have had a point, but at 40 and two years into retirement against a bigger man at 29, at the peak of his strength and fitness: no, you're wrong.

A bigger man with no professional boxing experience, remember boxing is a an art, brute strength is no match for skill and technique.

Weirdly woke up at 5:00 this morning, which never happens. Thought I'd check the Beeb on who won and it had only just started, found a stream within 5 mins and watched from round 4. Typical Mayweather fight in which he negates blows by covering up and good movement and uses his superior skill to pick off the opponent.

He's an ugly boxer imo (Mayweather) and none of his fights I've watched has been entertaining but he is a master of the ring and king of not getting hurt. 50 not out is legendary status
