Looks like the only attacking player that's even likely is Barkley and even that seems far from certain now.

And even if we sign him he's injured ( anywhere from a few weeks to a few months)

All in all that's extremely underwhelming whatever way you spin it.

Maybe you are right, but you are concluding on something you dont know...

Jj, herc and trix are atleast alluding to something may happen. Lets conclude after the window

Feels like it might be Barkley or the mystery attacking player. If DL can get Poch a shiny new attacker he might get away with not signing Pochs injured preferred choice. If he can't get the attacker over the line, stump up the cash and get Barkley done to keep Poch happy. Might be best we can hope for if DL wants to keep him sweet.

more from ali: For what it's worth i expect Aurier, Foyth to be done, sancho all down to city don't be surprised to see a "fryers", barkley looking like going to wire, no idea on anything else.
"A Fryers"
As in, we were interested but he went to another club so we could buy back to dodge the fee being asked?!?!

Edit: Or, Sancho is the "Fryers" and we've lined up a nice 4 month break for him somewhere to avoid paying the fee?

Really hope we do get Barkley. His the one I want the most.

Definitely feel we will experience a Son type of signing. Out of nowhere he was linked and the day later he signed. Just hope behind the scenes we are actually close to sealing this deal.

As always I'll wait until the window closes before passing judgement but it has that familiar feeling again. But this is what happens when we leave it late most of the time.

The most disappointing thing for me, if we fail to address it, will be not bringing in a pacey, versatile forward type. Can't believe we havn't prioritised that this summer, or at least it appears that way - we shall see.

Is it about us being late, or is it more that we're not late, but have haggled for 3/4 of the bloody summer and won't stump up the fee/wages?

Groundhog Day every Transfer Window. Remember the infamous "Chill, we got this" seems to be the essence of ITK every window, followed by the inevitable post TW debrief "lessons learned". Given that we don't do any business in Jan (other than sell) I think stakes are higher this time. Don't see Poch being happy in failing to get what he wants yet again and when Emery doesn't win the CL this season I'd fully expect PSG to come calling next summer.

You can draft posts and save them rather than posting them early.

Possibly, maybe in some cases. I'm not sure but we obviously leave it late to bid in some cases as a clear tactic to pressure the selling Club.

I can understand it, but there are drawbacks to it as well.

The business concluded will speak for itself, then we can really judge. Because, for me, there are surely players out there who could improve us who won't cost the world.

If Pochettino ends up frustrated that will say it all as he's earned the right to be backed.

Anyway, judgement in that respect comes the end of the window. Could all end up rosey.

I believe a foreign club (hopefully affiliated with Spurs) can buy him for free, then we buy him off them at xmas.....he can't play for us until then anyway, so everyone's a winner baby!

Don't understand what the hold up with Barkley is. Thought it was Everton signing Gylfi, personal terms apparently long since agreed, there's been months to sort out the transfer fee.... Bit strange that it's going to be touch and go to get it done before the deadline.

Apart from Sancho who is, by all accounts, homesick for London. He might as well stay in Manchester if the best we can do is farm him out abroad.

Backing Poch is the biggest thing for me. He has come out and said in press conferences that he expects 3 or 4 more signings. That seems odd to share to the press and I wonder if he is saying it publicly to put some pressure on Levy. Poch obviously wants Barkley. We assume Aurier is hopefully done. If all they bring in is Foyth and maybe Aurier, then bottom line they have not backed him after he made statements that he expects more. That would be worrisome.

We shall see I guess. Does Levy step up and deliver or do we get repeats of past windows?

Clearly Poch was putting pressure on Levy. He's been doing that for a while.

It's obvious he's putting pressure on Levy to buy him the players he wants.

Poch has gone from refusing to comment on transfers, to telling the press precisely how many players he wants and in what position whenever presented with a microphone.

I wonder if Brugge could buy him then loan him straight away to Spurs? Then we buy him outright at xmas at an agreed price and Brugge get a little pocket money out of it.

That's exactly what we did with Fryers, as I understand it.

(His agent was a client of mine, while I was also account managing Manchester United for the company I was working for at the time - so I used to get hold of little snippets of ITK here and there, some of which made their way on here - fully vetted and verified)

Pochettino putting pressure on Levy, or confirming the club's position as shown by Hercules et al?
