Is it fair to say that since we did make a profit of 20 mill or so this window, Levy needs to take that profit and get new contracts ironed out now for Toby, Dier, and anyone else that might be tempted to pull a Walker next summer. I can understand not paying exorbitant fees for average talent and that it takes two to tango on a transfer. If we use that money to continue to raise wages and lock up the young stars we have, then I think it can definitely be viewed as a solid window even though some weaknesses were not taken care of.

I also think Lamela can be viewed as a new signing if he actually comes back. Have we heard any solid information or ITK about his status?

I think it was a great window, but I do worry if there are more like Rose in the squad asking questions about ambition. Aurier and Sanchez should be fantastic, but we had nearly £90m in outs. Everton's club record signing cost nearly £10m more than ours.

Obviously the market is changed, but we just made Bale money and bought just 2 potential starters.

Who gives a flying fuck how much Everton spent!

Have we improved the squad? Yes, job done.

That's all you need to worry about

Its not that...i understand that completely. Im not criticising ITK im having a go at our transfer policy. Im all for positivity but i think we should also be allowed to vent our frustrations without being victimised. Im happy for those who are happy with our dealings but to ignore our shortcomings is wrong imo. If people dont agree with me then thats fine by me like i said everyone has different opinons

If you had said that you were disapointed that we didn't get a pacy winger or whatever then you would have got a different response.
I doubt you vent your frustrations in public, ask yourself why not?

You are frustrated fair enough. But saying it's embarrassing and that the club have strung you along, how? At what point did the club come out and say that they were going for a pacey winger? They didn't.
So you are angry that the club did not get the players that you wanted. Fair enough. I guess you'll have to learn to live with it.

To paraphrase Trump "Who knew transfers could be so hard?"

I disagree with Levy that the current climate is unsustainable, but I do think this window was exceptionally out of control. There were way too many world class players moving.

It may not have been the worst idea to pass on trying to buy an overpriced attacker.

Jan, Toby, Sanchez, Foyth, Dier for 3 spots.

Reckon we're alright.

Probably. I have high hopes for Foyth down the road but with his age and experience don't expect to be able to rely on him this year. Hope to be surprised though.

Everton also sold their best player and almost their second best. It would be like us selling kane and eriksen.

I can't believe people still need it explaining to them why Fernando Llorente is a superb signing for us.

Aside from his physicality and his track record of goal scoring, we have to ask ourselves one simple question - how do you improve a team which has scored the most and conceded the least in the world's toughest league two seasons running, given that you don't have unlimited money?

For me the answer is - you add depth to what's there, and crucially, you instill a winning mindset, and a belief that you can go all the way.

Depth we've taken care of, and there are very few people who understand a winning mindset more than Fernando Llorente - a World Cup, a Euro cup, three Serie A trophies and more. He knows how to win and he knows what a winning team looks like, unlike almost all of our players who are still waiting for their first trophy.

To find a player of that calibre, with that track record, with a proven premier league goal scoring record, who is available right now for under £15m, is almost impossible. We've played a blinder.

Llorente is the first World Cup winner to play for Tottenham since Klinsmann, and only the fifth in our history. Don't underestimate what he can bring to our team mentality.

Gentlemen, as ever, it's been a hoot.

See you in January.

COYS
Yep.

Llorente is a really astute signing. Personally, I'm really pleased with that one. I genuinely think he could teach Kane a few things while he's here as well.

It's been a solid window, without being great. Sanchez and Aurier seem to be great buys, Foyth is an unknown and I've covered Llorente. A pacy forward and/or Barkley would have pushed it to a very good, if not great, window as they're both exactly what we need now; the last pieces of the puzzle to give us a game changer and to also challenge Eriksen and Dele.

I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but when I woke up here in Australia there was 70 new pages and I'm not sure I have the stamina to go through them all, but did Breezer reveal who the 'experienced South American' was? He said a few weeks ago he might after the window closes.

Llorente is going to make some of you eat your words (as usual). An excellent experienced back up striker who has scored goals wherever he has been.

This is probably the most BSODL thing I'll say tonight- admittedly after a fair amount of booze - but the bloke knows football business lads. He really does. I just wish a lot of you would accept that generally people in this world know a lot more than you.

There's no harm in thinking someone is better than you. Again, it's not very 2017 but I'd love all of you for just one second to think: maybe this multi-millionaire business guy that's been a chairman of a football club for 15 years deserves the benefit of the doubt over me, a person that does not have anything like that sort of experience.

Right. I'm out. One lovez

Remember the ITK that said we'd put whatever we didn't spend on transfers towards new contracts for the boys?

Three potential starters, and upgraded the squad everywhere we needed it except for AM, which not everyone is convinced we need anyway.

We should always look to upgrade in every position. But unlike some clubs we are not in the financial position to do so or the players are not available.

my take on the window, do we have a stronger squad now than when it open, yes. Would Barkley have made it stronger, yes but not until the new year, so no real loss and since it seems he rejected the Chavs I would be surprised if he signed a new deal at Everton.

I don't really know how to feel, all the ITK was extremely positive that we'd get our long awaited speed merchant and for whatever reason it didn't happen which has put a bit of a dampener on everything. I just hope that Poch is happy with what he got

I am really excited about all of our signings and while I was sad to see Walker go, we still held onto all of our other favorite players (even Rose...) which is always my biggest worry during summer windows. That said, I can't help but feel like we needed another creative player (whether it was a midfielder or a, uh, speedy player) for rotation, competition or whatever and that it might come back to haunt us later. It's probably just my fault for letting ITK get my hopes up after doing so well all summer!

Oh well, thanks to everybody in here sharing with us. The only problem now is that the international break seems to be the only thing that takes longer than catching up on 50 pages of people complaining about nameless players...

Where are people getting the maths that we made a profit from?

Looks like:

Wimmer 18m
N'Jie 6m
Walker 45m
Fazio 4m

Out - 73m

You could possibly include Bentaleb for 15m at a serious push, but not really.

Against:

Aurier 23m
Sanchez 40m
Llorente 15m
Foythe 8m
Gazza - no idea, free?

In - 86m

Am I being ridiculously forgetful about someone else we've sold? How have we made a profit exactly?

Have to say thanks for the contributors on this thread, its been a riveting read and gave a great deal of insight, perspective & humour that really enhanced the day.

As for the window & how good its been as far as signings are concerned... I spoke to a Brighton fan who was gutted that Janssen didn't sign for them, they had waited until 1am to find out the news & described it as soul destroying so yeah marvellous window by all accounts. Made sweeter by the fact that the lads we signed gave certain other teams a swerve to come to us.

Doesn't seem like yesterday we were weighing up Gilberto, Nelson, Hutton & whether or not Chimbonda's return was good business & don't get me started on Crouch.

Onwards & upwards

Not really, there's a limit to how many first-11 quality players you can keep happy when they're not playing. Janssen's nowhere near good enough to start for us and even he's restless.

You are allowed as a manager, as a club, and as a fan, to be perfectly happy with your squad, or at least parts of it.

Add 5 for Siggurdson add-on. Bentaleb is included in this window I believe because his loan ended. Someone also said we got 8 mill from Carroll.

Also Sanchez was 36 according to transfermarkt and Llorente was 12. Gazza was 2 I think.
