Uh oh...a Levy 'Gentlemen's Agreement'... ...Modric fell for that one once

I know circumstances can change and anything can happen between now and January. I'd hope we were leading the hunt in Jan assuming we still want/need him then and he still wants us.

Time will tell.
And Levy kept his word to Modric.

If he likes a long, drawn out process, which is possibly counter to what he's been made to understand, and if he likes a nail biter that runs up until late January with his World Cup chances hanging in the balance, he'll love Levy.

At this stage I imagine they've already agreed personal terms anyway to be honest.

No. Barkley has clearly maintained all along he wanted us. Everton knew this. They refused to play ball and lower their ridiculous asking price. Then they lowered it to 35m for Chelsea and Barkley initially accepted it because we werent going back in for him. Then we did. The real fuck up here is Everton. They cost themselves big time by having that absurd £50m asking price. There was no way Levy would ever pay that and Barkley only wanted us. Instead of selling him earlier for £25m, they'll be selling him in January for about 10m. Cost themselves about £15m. They would have won out had we not gone back in for him.
Fair enough , I was disappointed,we will however have to wait and see what January or next summer brings.

Like who though? None of the other top 6 want or need him, it's arguably debatable whether us or Chelsea need him either to be brutally honest. He wants to play for Poch and showed it today. If he just wanted to chase the money he would've signed for Chelsea today.
Fair enough I was annoyed at us not getting him, possibly Jose would try for him, we will see what January or next summer brings.

Why on earth is Barkley taking stick from pundits, journos and fans alike?? The lad has made a decision based on what he feels is best for his career, despite being pushed by others to go where they wanted him to go. He's turned down more money and a club that doesn't scream 'stability' for a coach who really wants him and really wants to help him become a top class player. That's not to be criticised, that's to be admired.

A club that then turned to Drinkwater in extremis due to having a home grown issue. I'd be amazed if Drinkwater plays as much as he would have at Chelsea, denting his England hopes in a WC year.

If Barkley got a call from us asking him to wait until January then I would imagine there is a Gentleman's agreement this will be done early window.

That twat Perry Groves reckon we have offered him more money to wait till January? He couldn't bring himself to think maybe he had his heart set on us and he would actually get more money with Chavs.
The pressure on Ross this next few months from Everton to sign an extension will be immense, imagine everyone he meets in the next 4 months will be on his case.

I appreciate that Everton's owner is very wealthy but not only will Barkley's value drop in January, they also have to pay his wages for 4 months.
Not bright!

Agreed

I believe though it's not the personal terms that will drag this on, but the fee to be agreed upon with Everton. Levy will always believe there's a better deal to be made nearer the end of the window.

I hope we still try and get him before the next window. I can't see him playing for Everton again so why not try and get him on a pre contract. We may as well have him with us. Could he even play for our under 23s when he returns? Get him up to speed for the start of January

Everton have spent around £70 million in central midfielders in this window.
Their chairman said last night that even when he is fit, there's not much chance of him playing for them again.
Will take a huge olive branch for anything to happen that results in a contract extension.
His focus now just needs to be in getting fit and ready for a January move.
