The title will come this year.
We gonna wrap up EPL by month of March, smash Madrid in Champions League final. Llorente the Chelsea snubber will be to us what Batistuta was for Roma.
Over the course of the season i can foresee how;
Sissoko will get out of DD Zokoras shadow and start moving and shaking like Rivaldo
Aurier will get 5 games suspension in Champs League quarterfinals for the smack down he gives Suarez the ear biter, we will hold on with 10 man to win over 2 legs.
Ali will be dropped from a starting role in the middle part of the campaign, he will learn not to think too highly of himself. he will comeback a better Team player
Kane, wil be shortlisted for Ballon Dor
Finally Poch will reveal that he secretly follows spurscommunity and how he effing laugh at those disbelievers.

Epitomises the man's mentality all over, we couldn't ask for a better manager.

Agree I love the guy but this...

"Because, if not, we prepare the team to win the FA Cup or League Cup and you are in the middle of the table, or sixth, or seventh."

...is disingenuous.

Winning a "lesser" cup has nowt to do with finishing mid table.

League cup winners since Poch's been at Spurs: Utd, City, Chelsea
FA cup winners in same time: Arsenal, Man Utd, Arsenal

So great dig at Arsenal and Utd last season, sure, but in the main, both cups are traditionally won by more successful, top 4 regular clubs. (The Utd jibe becomes even sillier when they won the Europa too which Poch has got nowhere near either).

It seems ridiculous to me to discount them as clearly those clubs don't. It's about having the squad to compete at multiple levels. As we are constantly told, Mourinho uses league cup wins as a success springboard yada yada

In fact in last 20 years, the FA cup has been won by a typical top 4 regular 18 out of 20 times.

The outlier winners in both cups are not just rare but also proper outliers: Wigan, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Swansea. Not exactly title challengers who fell away because they prioritised it.

Poch must realise him not winning anything will become an issue in time. He's nearly been managing 10 years at 3 clubs and he's only won manager of the month awards. Great to aim high but I can see why other club's fans think he has ideas above his station when he comes out with stuff like this.

We clearly gunned hard for the FA Cup last year and I expect us to try that hard again.

The League Cup just is a lesser cup. I'd like to win it obviously but it just doesn't have the same lustre. Much of winning it comes down to your draw early on and how easily you can roll lesser teams with your reserves.

I don't think it's to be taken literally, he knows that we need to win a trophy but it says more about his mentality that he recognises that the PL and CL are the big ones.

Well I don't think we will win the league yet I think that is very optimistic but we should continue as we are sitting on the tails of the big boys, and see what happens in the next few years once in our own home.

Don't think he's discounting them per se, but rather saying that whereas the press and media are saying we need to win one of those trophies, he's saying they wouldn't be enough, and we've got to aim at the PL and CL. I love that.

Yes that's a better takeaway. And he's right, winning those cups won't keep the calibre of player we now have either

But winning nothing else while aiming high will mount pressure, no doubt. He may try to discount it but it won't go away. There's been no natural build bar the improvement of league position.

Right now, you still go to Spurs as a stepping stone to a club who wins stuff. That needs to change at some point, whatever the level of success

One thing that Poch needs to improve on is our attacking signings. So far I think his only successful attacking signings have been Alli and Son.

Njie, Nkoudou, and Janssen have been a waste of time.
You'd hope our scouting team would be able to identify some better talents, or that we'd be able to attract someone who's already proven in a top league.

Poch seems to know what he's doing when it comes to defensive signings. It's the attacking signings he seems to be struggling with. Llorente should be a good signing though hopefully.
And yet he's said again and again how difficult it is to attract talent when they don't fancy the task of usurping Kane/Alli/Eriksen. Not just as easy as identifying players.

Plus attacking signings always command a premium, they're paid higher than defensive players for a reason which is probably why we struggle to obtain them see Mane for example.

Poch is a great fit for us.

Pros:
Can work with Levy
Does a good PR job
Managers young squad well: seen both sticks and carrots, some players improved.

Cons:
In-game subs baffling at times
Low tactical variety.

For arguments sake let's say we swap Poch out for some of the so called celebrity managers. Mou/Pep/Conte, take your pick. Chances are the squad will be less harmonious, and greater demands for signing 'big' players immediately i.e: cant work with levy.

It may be difficult but there will always be players that look at it the other way and will look forward to competing with/playing alongside the likes of Alli and Eriksen. They won't play every game and their form will dip at times.

If I'm an attacking midfielder considering coming to Spurs I'd think that although Eriksen and Alli are first choice, there will be enough games for me to have a chance to impress and stake my claim. It seemed that Barkley had this mentality. I'm sure there are other players like this too.

Big name and big game players usually attract others.

We have to remember that Poch is still pretty young for a manager (45 years old) - he's bound to make a few mistakes

He'll be a wise old tactical genius in 10 years time...when he's still at the mighty Spurs (y)

Not sure about lack of tactical variety. He hasn't used 4-4-2 too often true, but he has used 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2, 4-3-3 & occasionally 4-1-4-1 when thought it warranted it, so I'd say fairly tactically adept.

Mind you, I'd prefer him to decide on his best formation tactically & let the opposition worry about us, rather than changing things around too much.
