True, but I don't think we could really insist to a young player who clearly didn't have a future with us that he had to stay because we needed him as third choice. It's that kind of potential stagnation that makes players think twice before joining Chelsea or City, and we'd far more seriously affected given our wage structure. Considering that we probably didn't expect to have both Janssen and Llorente at the club we really had to let him go.

If McGee wanted to go and play, I agree in principle that the club should not stand in his way.

But goalkeepers are in a differnt sitution to outfield players, who may be sufficiently versatile to fill several positions. Vorm has spent some of his prime footballing years as our backup, and Pau Lopez is currently starting for Espanyol having been our number three last season.

It's a tricky one, but keeping McGee for an extra season would not have greatly harmed his career, and potentially would have given us an extra non-homegrown spot for either Lamela or Janssen.

I think that's hard to say. Right now he's able to start for a perfectly decent League 1 team who have realistic ambition of Championship football on the back of a good year at Peterborough. Who's to say what he might have to settle for after a year in the U23 team? Given that Janssen is our third or fourth choice strike when we only play one at top and we didn't even expect him and Llorente to both be at the club it doesn't seem like a worthwhile sacrifice.

  1. Lloris
  2. Vorm
  3. Gazzaniga
  4. Aurier
  5. Alderweireld
  6. Sanchez
  7. Vertonghen
  8. Foyth
  9. Davies
  10. Wanyama
  11. Dier
  12. Dembele
  13. Eriksen
  14. Sissoko
  15. Son
  16. Nkoudou
  17. Llorente
There's our 17 non-homegrown. After this, we are allowed 8 players all of whom have to be homegrown and at most 4 who are not from our club.

Therefore, Kane, Rose, Trippier make the list, giving is 20 in total, while Dele, Winks, KWP, Edwards and several others 21 and under who've been with us 2 years + qualify for the B list.

Quite simple really, no space for Janssen or Lamela without sacrificing others. Will be space for, say, Barkley.
No point in having GKN there, Poch doesn't seem to want to give him a game. I'd also rather have a half fit Lamela than Sissoko there too.

Does this mean that Lamela cannot now be registered in our CL squad until/unless we reach the next round?

Not in @Hercules window sum up ITK, where I'm pretty sure he said Poch loves Janssen's "attitude" in training.

Of course the attitude of the player may be superior to his technical quality.
To clear this up, I believe the two separate bits of information were that his attitude isn't in question but he wasn't cutting it in training in terms of ability

I got 50 on us to win it at 25/1. Win 1250. Collect 1300. Dont let me down, Spurs!

have to ask are you lucky in gambling? have to ask because usually when I see you've had a bet for anything to do with Spurs it doesn't happen (mainly transfers)

no but if he is so shit at gambling like I used to be, perhaps it would be a better idea to bet on all the other teams bar us, then we might have a chance(y)

I find it bizarre that he's bet £50 on us to win the CL when he spends most of his time moaning about us :D.

Personally speaking, one of my gambling rules is never bet on Spurs (y).

Found what @Hercules said in his ITK post-window summary:

4. VJ, Poch loves him as a person, and admires his attitude. Poch wants it to work for him, and told him he needs 3 specialist strikers, and with all the games he would get his games.

On a slightly different note, I'm coming to the uk for a few days, and wanted tix for the champions league game next Wednesday.

Tix went on sale yesterday for general release, but they are only for members who were signed up, before the drawer was announced.

Is there any way for me to get tix...legally?

Seems like a slightly poor decision to leave Janssen out as we may need him at some point and now he's gonna be an unhappy bunny...

I guess it came down between Nkoudou, Sissoko, Janssen and Lamela for two spots. Lamela is out for most of the group stage so that's him out. Between the other three, after Eriksen, Dele and Son, Sissoko is the only player who has proven himself at a reasonably high level (regardless of what we think of him). Then, choosing between Janssen and Nkoudou, Nkoudou is more versatile and plays in a role where we have less cover.

Not saying I agree, just that I understand the thinking.

Perhaps the squad was submitted whilst we thought Janssen was going to Brighton?

I would rather have Lamela there than Jansenn.

It's strange because most people seemed ok with not adding any creativity during the window because Lamela will be back soon, but now the mood seems to have changed to "oh it doesn't matter because he won't be fit until near xmas anyway".

If Lamela is back in full training at the end of the month, how long does it take him to get fully match fit? Another four weeks? 6 weeks? We have no idea when he's realistically gonna be back so I get why he's not there. If he were fit he'd obviously be in.

Encouraging thing for me is Rose in there, must be approaching fitness.

I don't disagree with you, which is the reason I was so keen to get another creative player in. We can't rely on Lamela, but most people seemed to think he was going to ride to the rescue and just appear in October like he'd never been away.

Think everyone wanted another creative player, don't know that anyone argued otherwise! But it would appear that we wanted a) Barkley, who is out for perhaps just as long, and b) the wide forward we weren't able to secure.

Seemingly we'd rather wait for the right player rather than just get someone (Sissoko).

Not to be a downer or anything but isn't Rose there in one of our HG slots? Those are the ones we have a few of so sticking him in there isn't a risk or taking up the space of anyone else.

Obviously hope this means he is fit soon and will contribute but I don't take his inclusion to mean much
