Yep, but Pep told him that he'd be involved in the first team and then went and spent over £200m on new players and failed with a bid for Sanchez.
He's clearly putting his career before money so hopefully he'll get into the Dortmund team at some stage. It's just a shame he didn't join us in the end.

The kid is 17 yrs old and has already walked out on 2 clubs.

He's either being poorly advised or has already got question marks against his character.

IMO, he's more likely to be the next Ravel Morrison or John Bostock than a Raheem Sterling. Seems very unprofessional.

I get this opinion but I also like seeing youth players try and take some initiative in their career. So many, even in our own academy, seem to stay well past their sell by date even when it's obvious they will have almost no opportunity to make it into the first team. If he was Spurs and bounced I would be bollocking him off too. I think it's hard to judge the professionalism of a 17 year old.

It worked for Sturridge, at least up to the point where injuries almost ruined him. I think the fact that Sancho's going to Dortmund is a saving grace in that regard, he's clearly taking initiative and deliberately going to a club where he feels he has a better chance of succeeding than if he'd stayed at City. Good for him.

Not really comparable with Sturridge. Sturridge left Man City for Chelscum at 20 and then moved to Liverpool at about 24.

This kid is 17 and already walked out on Watford and City.

i dont see the problem though. if the kid knows hes good he shouldnt be playing in watford. if he is really that good but not given a chance then i think he made the right decision. if he makes it in dortmund then suddenly all these decision make sense.

when kids does these things they always seems like a rebel, but in the end it comes down to whether is he truly that good. i hope he is and prove everyone wrong

Like you say he's 17 so he's legally still a child. He's allowed to change his mind at that age. Personally I think it's brilliant that he's brave enough to leave the richest Club in the country and try his luck abroad with a club that has a brilliant reputation for trusting and playing young talent.

Interesting that you say he'll be more of a Morrison than a Sterling. Considering Sterling left (or walked out as you'd put it) QPR + Liverpool before he was 20.

It's a lose/lose situation for him with some people. If he signs the huge deal at City to sit in the u23s with a limited first team pathway, he'd be called greedy and unambitious. He leaves and he's called unloyal and unproffesional.

It's not what he's done but the way he's gone about it, I think. Going AWOL and refusing to train is not professional no matter what age you are.

So if your manager stated that you would get a promotion and then went and hired a ton of people in the position you thought you were going to get and then essentially fobbed you off, you would, take it graciously and carry on working graciously?

Or would you be annoyed and look for employment elsewhere, taking sick leave or whatever to go to other interviews, etc... He's a kid, kids act up, but to boot he is a footballer and they can't just leave as when they want to. He was probably advised that this was the only way to get out of the situation he was in.

funny this line says it all about Pep in 2017 (and probably for many years previous to be honest):
He said: "We offered him a huge deal and we shook hands.

Pep's clubs are so money driven it doesn't occur to him that the kid might want to play....and if he had signed for Citeh he'd have a lot more money and be getting ready to see Alexi and probably 1-2 others being bought in ahead of him

He can be annoyed and look elsewhere. But taking sickies and "acting up" is being unprofessional. If he wanted to be fast-tracked to 1st team football maybe he would of been better off staying at a smaller club like Watford.

Not really sure how going to the 2nd biggest club in German football, that's filled with international quality players is going to change his prospects of first team football in the near future.

I think he is being badly advised.

Dortmund are a side that like to promote their young players to the first team - just look at Dembele and Pulisic for two examples of players under 20 that were given a chance in the first team. On top of that they've just hired the manager from Ajax who played with Davison Sanchez (20), Bertrand Traore (21), Kasper Dolberg (19), & Matthijs de Ligt (17) in his team last season. I can't really think of any better team for a young player.

Have a read of this and see if you still think the moves a bad idea...

Dortmund played a lot of very young players against us in the CL.

He clearly has more playing opportunity there.
