So many positives tonight (Kane continuing to be amazing; a brilliant defensive effort under severe pressure; a great debut by Aurier), but the thing I'm happiest about is that - whether intentionally or not - we didn't go toe-to-toe with a high pressing side who were equally comfortable in possession, but rather we sat back and hit them on the counter attack. Loved it.

(Apologies to @Bus-Conductor, who I assume is livid that we didn't dominate the possession and play the game camped in their half.)

I think our fullbacks was to deep in the first half, with us effectively playing a flat back five. When they stepped up into midfield in the second half, it meant that Son and Eriksen could be more central defensively, as opposed to run their asses off to pick up the Dortmund fullbacks, which led to us winning the ball more and exposing a very shady Dortmund backline.

I dunno. It might be psychological; seemed to just switch that way when Walker left and he was #1.

Either way, now that SA is here I think bringing KWP throughout now makes more sense. don't want him to have to hang around forever, hardly being used, like onomah, before being loaned out.
I think it's safe to say that Trippier is still ahead of KWP, given that the latter has played a whole of one league game.

I hope that he comes through sooner rather than later, though.

Not a good first half, but to the honest, Dortmund didn't create that much in the first half. In the second half, we outplayed them and we deserved to win. We had many more chances than they had.
Thats the thing, we were not barely hanging on in the first half. They had chances and they should of taken at least one. But they really weren't that many. They had 3 shots on target all game, and ultimatly thats why they didn't win. They didn't create much, unlucky with disallowed goal, but still they didn't create a lot.

A lot reporting makes seem like we clinical when got our chances, but actually we made really high quality chances, and ultimately I'm disappointed that we didn't take more of them, because it might well come down to head to head in this group.

Just on the train on the way back.

First half was nervy but second half we were wonderful. Back to our best.

Ref gave them a foul every time they fell over. We need to learn to do that and quickly.

What happened with Verts?

Great result, some real individual stand out performances from Kane, Davies, Sanchez, Aurier and Lloris in particular. Pressing and going forward and pressing they were scarily good, at the back I think you would have to go a long way to find more naive rank bad defending than that. Some key refereeing decisions were shocking both for and against us.

Let's consolidate now by following it up with another win at Swansea and Barnsley to really consign that Wembley hoodoo in quick succession.

Harsh decision that sees Verts missing a game, but if ever there was one to miss, APOEL away was it, we have enough alternative options for this one, it's also vital that we build on this by getting three points over there, because if Dortmund play that way defensively by being so open against Real Madrid we could be looking at a 6 point gap after two games, which really heaps the pressure on Dortmund.

Hopefully we learnt from doing entirely the wrong thing at Anfield last season.

Agree, its not often I have a pop at refs but this guy gave them every decision he could possibly give.

So many positives I don't know where to start, in a nut shell a mature performance, and proof this squad and manager can hold their own against any team - Love it!

Depends whether or not he's being told to/not to do it.
Forget whats told or not, if two successive players keep cutting in rather than crossing it that is a problem, and it probably is a sign that we not creating enough space or the right situations to put a cross in.

If its because they dont have the right mentality, if two successive players it probably means that there is a problem with how to give them that confidence ect.

Personally I think the reason Trippier has crossed less is because he has played in games where he has been pinned back pretty successfully, and playing the back 4 makes him over conscious of trying not to expose the back line. I also think its down to the fact that Davies right now provides a much better outlet. So if we go down a flank we search for him more. Happened today as well, Davies was utilized offensively a lot more than Aurier

Apologies all. Didn't mean to derail thread with hyperbolic knocking of Sissoko after a thrilling champions league victory. I'm still buzzing.

For the record I like the guy and want him to do well with us like any of our players.

And he's obviously not the worst player to have graced a Spurs shirt as several posters have pointed out there have been worse.

But he's definitely in the bottom five :troll:
