Why can't people point out his deficiencies without others getting their thongs in a twist? The guy has been in poor form, we're all aware his numbers are good, he's only 21 and he doesn't play as a box to box midfielder but that doesn't mean he's devoid of any criticism.

I don't think you can blame Dele Alli for any of the unnecessary hype that has been blown out of complete proportion mostly by Sky Sports. As a result most non spurs supporting football fans thinks he is world class. So far he does produce World class moments but not on a consistent basis nor should that be expected of him at this moment in his development.

Prime example the Chelsea home game last season when he scored two very good headers from two world class crosses from Eriksen. That game Wanyama was the best player on the park by a mile, which if you carried on watching the coverage after the match, Thierry Henry pointed out but Sky (Alan's Smith) gave man of the match to Dele Alli for winning us the match. Next day in the papers all about Alli. Now Im not taking away his contribution to the team over the last two seasons but at the moment he plays like a more skilfull Tim Cahill.

Can he become world class we will have to wait and see but a bit of perspective from all football fans needs to be inhaled. Due to the hype that surrounds him, Spurs fans that watch him are not buying it this season and I think why it is causing so many disputes especially on this board.
Fucking spot on! (y) By the way I am not blaming Dele for the hype, but what I and others will do is criticise him when it affects his performance for believing in it !

I think you should take a balanced view, as some have been constructive, whilst others have not imho

Of course they are, they always talk about goalscoring and anyone who scores two goals in a game is instantly man of the match candidate and probably deserves it. Scoring goals is the hardest thing to do in football, Dele does it all the time, and he is great at missing chances as well. He has the capability of scoring a lot more.

Dele is not playing that badly at all. A lot of things arn't coming off for him but thats part of his game. Keeps trying the fluidity will come back. Fact is yesterday he was involved in all three of the goals, he was a major factor in our victory. Doing this while not playing particularly well is a sign of an incredibly special player.

Dele's most important and best attribute is movement, its his ability to find space to get a shot on and to make space for other players. He is always making these runs, keep going and he will have another good season.

Yeah, but apart from the goals, assists, energy, movement, and creativity, what else does he have to offer?!

Nothing about Dele's game has changed. What has changed is people are finally seeing him for what he is. He is good, tenacious and a match winner. But I have always said he was over hyped from the last two seasons or so and his deficiencies then were ignored by fans and media alike.

I'm prepared to ignore his deficiencies at the tender age of 21, especially as he is a match winner at the tender age of 21.

I think this is spot on. Honesty, his most impactful, involved games for me were his games in Midfield when he first came on board. He can play the midfield game very well and I think you still get his runs in the box for headers and the like.

That being said, his goals and runs are essential to us performing the way we have and much like Chicho, he scores. People hare don't rate Chicho or Defoe, but they score and the same can't be said for some players that work their ass off and don't turn the ball over.

If he gets another 15-20 goals, fuck it, I don't care cause he wins us matches.

He needs a lot of love, support and some trusty ear-plugs.
Every fucking day he has vultures circling, whispering, filling his 'confidants' with tales of glories and riches 'only they' can get him. He needs to be protected Fromm them all for another two seasons, by which time they will have wormed their way through. We already ask a lot of these kids, and now we expect this 'kid' to survive the whisper-war between super-wankers promising him wealth and wonder beyond his comprehensions even two seasons ago? No solid M&D at home to settle him down? And people still don't gauge what enormous fucking pressure that might be? He is a beautiful footballer to watch, silky, smooth, like ghost with gears. And for him to fulfill his talent to the maximum, he needs help and guidance through the next 12 months. I hope he gets it...

Moving Dele forward is a major reason for our transformation. Dele further forward is allowed to try things, to be ambitious, to make mistakes because we a forward enough that losing the ball isn't a big deal. Dele's stats are reflected by how he plays the game, put him in midfield you lose all of that.

Personally there's not a player in would football Id take over Alli of the same age or lower.... Sane of Man C is close but no cigar.

I laugh at people coming out with the stupid analogy of Alli "if you take away his goals and assist he's nothing special".

You are arguing against your self as you are agreeing with me. It was ignoring these deficiencies why he was overhyped in my book, deficiencies which people are now starting to see or finally acknowledging

No, it's the same people having the same old moan about the same things regards to Alli.

I'm not old enough to have seen him play, but I imagine the same people would probably say the same things about Jimmy Greaves.

Not that I'm saying Dele is on the same level btw, but my Dad would tell me Jimmy would regularly do fuck all for most of the match, only to pop up with the winner or score 2 tap ins etc.

It's the classic English way of building a player up so that he can be knocked down. I saw those wankers on Sunday supplement doing it yesterday.

He's not really playing that much differently this season than he did in patches last year. I'm not going to moan about him though because I know I'd rather have him in my team than not.

Plus on Saturday he actually looked to be enjoying himself again and there was a smile on his face when we scored, which was great to see. Maybe there's been off field problems weighing him down and now they are resolved. Let's hope so because he's a match winner and we need those.

This. When Dele is in poor form I think that Son deserves a run of games as I think that he has looked good the games has played.

Thing is even when Dele is in poor form he is still effective. 3 goals and 1 assist in 7 games is a very good output(numbers wise) for a 20yo midfieldet
