This week it's Kane leaving. Next week it will be Toby because he hasn't signed his contract yet. Or Rose and Dier will be linked with Man Utd again the week before we play them. It's tiresome rubbish most of which is completely made up.

The media won't be happy until we sell all of our players and return to the midtable obscurity of the mid 90s.

Got to think reading these Real/Kane stories, regardless of their credibility, and the inevitable ‘media has it in for us’ reactions, that those claiming Kane a Spurs lifer are surely having a slightly rapid rethink.

In what world did ANYONE think Kane would be at Spurs for the rest of his career? It takes some incredible mental, emotional and wishful thinking gymnastics to not see this as the logical conclusion eventually.

You do it to yourself, you do, and that’s what really hurts...

It is all about ambition. If, once in the new stadium, Harry can see we're adding a world class player every summer and improving, and we compete for the CL consistently (and by that I mean reaching the last 4), I think he'll stay. But if we get knocked out at the group stage or 2nd round me every year and sell a good player to a rival every summer then I think he'll move on to a bigger club. For all his dedication and ability he deserves to win big titles. Hopefully it'll be with us!

I'd be disappointed if he left within the next three years, but wouldn't begrudge him if he did after that. The guy deserves to win everything there is

I still believe that if we treat him right - ie Levy shells out for a proper contract - and Poch stays here for another 4 years, that Harry won't leave.

And if at 28, 29 he decides, like Hoddle, he wants to go and have another experience abroad, he'd go with my blessing.

Because he scored. If he ran straight into a defender (which he sometimes does) people would have said he should have laid it off instead of trying to do it all on his own. Thats my point.

A Kane who's first instinct is to look for a pass is less use to us than the Kane we have got. We are just going to have accept that the Kane we have comes with this attribute, its unlikely to change and if it did it would be detrimental to his performance and ultimately the teams.

But he had the opportunity and time to work that goal. The keeper blunder wasn't the same situation in my opinion.

If Harry leaves us in the next 4 years then I will be done with modern football, if even a player and person like him is incapable of ignoring the call of corrupt clubs like Madrid then the game has truly gone off a cliffs edge.

I never expected Harry to stay for life, that would be unreasonable, if he moved to another club in his late 20's then I wouldn't be shocked but I genuinely believe that Harry is a good person and think he would be prouder to lead this spurs team to glory than any other team in the world.

The only circumstance I can see him leaving us for would be if he feels this club is no longer going in the right direction, if he starts feeling like he is carrying this team completely or that Levy and co aren't really trying to aim to be the best club in the world then I think he will be off.

Just my opinion, for now though, it's just all media bullshit as far as I am concerned.

This is fair enough although my expectations are tempered nowadays because as we've seen before it doesn't take much to turn a player's head especially if they get an offer from the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona. I would be disappointed if he left any time soon but for me it wouldn't be unexpected.

He’s going nowhere for the next 2 years but if we win nothing this year or next then I can see him starting to seriously consider his options. By the end of our first season in the new stadium he’ll have 3 years left I think at which point I’d imagine Levy will be trying to tie him down again so we’ll get an indication of how the land lies at that point.

I'm not sure that it's the not winning things that will be the problem, but perhaps if we're not challenging. And I think he'll be around longer than two more seasons regardless. WHy our own fans keep encouraging this chat I don't know.

I don’t know what you mean by encouraging this chat. Bit of a weird comment. At the end of the day none of us know what his plans are.

I take your point about us needing to challenge but I don’t think he’s made any secret about wanting to win things and how short football careers are. If we finish 4th and get to a FA cup semi final for the next 2 years (which would be great by all accounts) I just don’t think that will cut it for Kane but I could be wrong. I certainly don’t doubt his love for the club and it’s that love that will keep him here a lot longer than any other player but that loyalty will only get us so far with no trophies, whether we challenge or not.

Probably a combination of preparing ourselves for the worst, shielding ourselves from caring too much, and the media keep bringing it up for our players. No idea how often that line gets brought up with other teams but seems daily we get poked with the "when you leaving?" stick.

It's just the predictable sounds of defence mechanisms clicking into gear, so at least if he leaves they'll have the 'I told you so' card to play on here to make them feel a little better.
Let's face it, no one wants him to leave, and no one knows when or even if he will, it's just the inevitable response every time crappyfootball.com has their latest 'Kane to Madrid' exclusive.

It’s the word encouraging that I found weird. I literally don’t know what he’s talking about.

History is not on our side on this one. But perhaps nicdic would rather we were more like Liverpool fans, happy in our delusion that Kane just signed his kid up to a local nursery and will never ever leave Spurs coz we’re the greatest in the world.

One opinion is based on past experience and the other is a bit of blind hope. None of us know, though.

Not at the expense of the team. Its not Bullshit at all.

When the keeper fucked up he should have 10000000000000000000000% passed that to Davies.
I didn't say bullshit I wasn't that rude!

He should have passed in that instance yes, that does not mean he's selfish generally. How anyone can find any flaws in his game, especially at the moment and the form he's in is beyond me. The man is a goal machine, you don't become a goal machine by taking easy options. If his 2nd against Huddersfield ended up in the top tier you'd be saying he ought to have passed. But it went in and he's world class. Get what I'm saying? If you don't risk things/take the difficult option, then you're just an average player. And as a forward that means sometimes being "selfish".

This just shows the mentality of the posters in question I think, half full vs half empty.
I don't see the point in being negative about things and contemplating the worst, both with Spurs and generally speaking, especially when some things are completely out of our control.
As you said, none of us know...now where did I leave that white stick.

One opinion is based on past experience.

Is it though? Yes you can point to Modric, Berbatov and Bale but equally, how many times in the past have people come out with "Lloris will leave us" "Eriksen will push for a move to Barca" etc and it hasn't happened. Posters on here used to bang on all the time about Lloris won't be around long if we don't win a trophy, yet, here he is.
