Poch will have a real conundrum come the end of the season. For 1 creative midfield role we have.
Dembele-The main man but injuries a worry
Sissoko-Vastly improved offers something different
Winks-Now an England senior
Onomah-We all know the potential
TOB-looks a major talent
Barkley-seriously questioning if we need him
Imo we can have 3 max.wouldnt include TOB as Still youth. So you’d think one of sissoko/winks/Onomah will have to go that’s not even taking into account Barkley.Or I suppose there’s the possibility to call time on dembele.Honestly don’t have a clue what I would do.
Barkley would be competition for Eriksen

Not entirely sure that’s the case. With his size and strength I think he was thought of as long term dembele replacement. But Obviously he has flexibility. But if we are buying as AM I’d much rather the pacey winger.

If Barkley comes he’ll be the attacking version of Dier. He’ll fill in for anyone that’s missing ie CM, attacking left, Right or Centre.

Whatever happens can’t see Sissoko making another summer unless he becomes unstoppable which let’s be honest won’t happen.

CM > Dier, Waynama, Dembele, Winks (Onomah)
AM > Dele, Eriksen, Son, Barkley, Lamela (Nkoudou)

Pretty decent imo assuming no big players leave next summer

Looks like outstanding long term planning to me.

You'd expect Sissoko will be sold if Barkley arrives, and Poch has said Winks can play a DM role, especially in a 3-4-2-1 against weaker teams.

Barkley would also cover Eriksen and the no.8 role, which is ideal as anyone coming in to solely understudy Eriksen would get frozen out just like a Kane understudy. Who can you attract and keep motivated and sharp in that role?

Wanyama - no.4
Dier - no.4 + CB cover (means we don't need 5-6 specialist CBs in the squad)
Dembele - no.8. 1 game a week. 1-2 more seasons in him with us.
Winks - no.8 + no.4 cover
Barkley - no.8 + no.10 cover
Onomah - no.8

We've effectively 5 1/2 (Dembele) available CMs for 4 spots. 2 of which will get minutes at CB and AM.

TOB isn't an issue for 18 months, though could step up when Dembele moves on, as could Skipp by then.

If all fulfil their potential then we'll be selling someone in 2/3 years, but that's football.

EDIT - or what @Hengy1 said.

Personally think we should be looking for a better loan than villa for him in January. They are really abysmal, we need him in a side who will untilise him better

Is his villa loan really going that bad ? He is getting game time, he seems to be scoring goals these days, I think it's a bit early to judge just yet.

He would fit in great at Reading, and damn they really could do with him as well.

Seems to me his confidence from being England's star of the WC win has slowly been eroded at Villa, he is still showing flashes but has gone into his shell a lot more for them with each game, whether that's the result of the bad atmosphere around Villa Park and the crowds booing due to the bad results (not aimed at Josh) or being coached by Widow Twanky IDK but if he doesn't get back into the starting XI in the coming weeks we should move him on somewhere where the football is more football like ;)

What bad results? They haven't lost a league game in ages and won their last 4.

only way he stays at villa is if he they use him properly and is utilised non stop. If not, in January he either comes back into our setup (my prefered option), or he should go to a Swansea or Bournemouth where he'll play high pressured premier league football for managers and sides that play football.

He's fine where he is IMO, no point moving him on and unsettling him, he's found his rythym at Villa and thus his consistency and confidence so let him finish the season out.

You realise he's been on the bench for the last 3 games?

Also whilst he has featured in CM, more often than not he is wide or even up front...

Don't think Bruce knows how to use him TBH. (just because a footballer can play anywhere doesn't mean he should Steve ;) )

You would think if he was great then the manager would play him as he needs to save his job. If he is a luxury player then he won't start. Seems as though he has much to learn and being on the the bench is all part of his development. Clearly if we kept him he wasn't going to be doing even that

Bits and pieces I had seen of him at Villa in the first few games I feared the loan would be a bit of a waste of time, but at least he'd be getting minutes every week, having caught up with a friend who is a Villa fan during the week it sounds even worse and the club should be looking at pulling him out of there as things stand really.

Villa started the season with a few injuries, and SB was throwing in a few of the younger players, but they weren't playing well, were playing a different formation every game, and SB was under real pressure. Despite this, Onomah was doing a pretty decent job. Then a few weeks ago the injured players came back, plus they signed Snodgrass, and they went back to the experienced players in a classic 'two solid centre mids, two wide players' 4-4-2 and have put some wins together and kept it like that.

So Onomah finds himself benched and getting sub appearances in a variety of roles again. My mate says that he's been unlucky because he was arguably the best player in the opening weeks and it's not ability that has kept him out of the team, but he doesn't care that much because they're winning games with this set-up, at least playing a bit better, and because "at the end of the day he's not our player and why should we prioritise developing him for Spurs?"

And that is the danger with loans in my opinion. Send him to a team with a big squad, and a manager without a clear vision and who chops and changes constantly and 'not being their player' can go against you on marginal calls, especially later on in the season when they start looking to the future as you see with many loan deals. I think maybe we need to start doing a Chelsea, and setting up loan deals where the financial details are related to how much they play.

You have to question the decision to send him to a Steve Bruce managed team, his teams have always played the most dull and uninspiring football known to man, and frankly there were plenty of teams in the Championship that did play a possession based type of football that Josh would have thrived at.
