For the love of good, please can we not play into their hands with a high line.

I'm picking a team that will defend well and can win it back swiftly in deeper areas, much like tonight and can break with pace.

Lloris

Alderweireld
Sanchez
Vertonghen

Aurier
Dier
Sissoko
Rose

Eriksen
Dele

Kane

Now there's loads of contentious selections there, but thats the team I think is best suited to getting the result against Liverpool.

Eriksen wasn't great tonight but he's still the guy who makes us pur when we're transitioning up the pitch.

Thought about Son for Dele, but the latter should be itching. I do like Son on the counter though, tough one.

Davies I'd have ahead of Rose had it been anyone else at the moment , but he might not be over illness.

Winks has done super, and will get plenty more starts this season, but thats the team I'd go for.
Pretty good shout. Hopefully, we'll have in-game options to sub the starting LWB re Rose/Davies if need be, or shift Verts left if that's not possible. Important that Dele gets game time; it'll help him get over his drop in form, and he loves the big games, and does well in them. 'pool won't want to see him in the line up.

I'm ok with whichever combo of Dier/Sissoko/Winks we choose. Each pairing gives us different looks. Winks has improved his defensive game in particular, and Sissoko has just improved all round and has more confidence in himself. Dier is good at breaking up play, and being a defensive CM shield protecting our defensive line. I'd probably choose Winks though, as his creativity will help to target 'pool's defensive weaknesses, and I think we have enough at the back to cope with their attack.

Like you say, I think it's more about how we set up, high line and the pressing game, or sit back a little. I think we'll do the latter, and actually think they'll do the same. Think they'll be happy with a point, but think we'll get more clear scoring chances against their defence and get the win.

Think Sissoko is made for this game.

Him and Aurier, will rip.Liverpool on the counter. Those two a must for me. Not to mention they're combative in their defensive work.

Not just about picking best eleven on paper, I'd go with the best team to hurt Liverpool. And's that frustrate them by sitting deep and then countering.

Play into their hands if we play high, camped in their half.

Massively agree, but I wouldn't be surprised if Poch recalled Trippier and played KWP at right back v West Ham.

I'll be devastated if we play into their hands again. It's all set up for us to play like we did against Dortmund.

Poch should be brave enough to do it, but it's one thing doing it in the champions league and another doing it at home in the Premier League where teams aren't perceived to play like that.

If Davies has recovered then I think it's very harsh to drop him for Rose immediately, particularly as Rose is simply not match sharp yet.

Sissoko deserves to start after last nights performance and his direct running will be important in a game where if Poch is smart we will look to drop off a bit and hit them on the counter.

Lloris
Toby Sanchez Verts
Dier
Aurier Sissoko Eriksen Davies
Alli

Tactics will be much more important than personnel in this game.

Let's hope after years of playing directly into their hands under a succession of managers, we actually exploit their weaknesses this time.

I'm uncertain who to play, actually. On one hand they have a crap defence so we should set up to score goals. On another hand we can boss them around much like yesterday. I think I would probably continue with the Kane/Llorente partnership. And I would definitely not drop Davies if he is match fit. In-form players in the peak of their game just shouldn't be dropped.

Way Poch spoke about Dembele pre-match, I can't see him playing Liverpool game as well.

Davies has earned his place, I can't see it gifted to Rose. Rose is most likely to start WestHam cup game.

My XI

Lloris,
Sanchez, Toby, Jan,
Aurier, Dier, Winks, Davies
Eriksen,Dele
Kane

Only reason I pick Dele instead of Sissoko is he is fresh for Liverpool game. Form wise, I have no problem to pick Sissoko over Dele in this game.

They have our number and I'm fearing the worst for this game, particularly with Wembley.

I want to see more of Llorente and Kane together, they looked dynamic this morning (Aus time).

Does the new Pragmatic Poch approach not give you hope then? I'd be amazed if he went toe to toe with them again, not due to any gulf in quality, but they are pacier than us, so adjusting to play a more counterattacking style might be in order. Time will tell.

Poch said in his pre match interview that Dembele had a reaction to his injury during training out there.

I think he’s slowly turning into Ledley and although Winks is doing very well and has a great future ahead of him we need to go into the transfer market for another CM.
