The fact is next summer all we need signing wise is a CM to replace dembele possibly if Onomah doesn’t step up.A striker possibly, can we really count on Llorente if Kane is injured long term. And the pacey AM.This will be even less if Barkley comes January.Anyway my point is next summer we prob need 3 signings max so we can push boat out and get real quality.I also have no doubt we would want a Marquee signing for new stadium. For the whole feel good factor Bale is basically perfect.Hes also perfect in the sense he could cover a Kane injury. My only reservations are injury record and pace is a massive part of his game. But if we are looking for a pacey AM who can cover striker we aren’t gonna do much better.

So if Bale returns, are we going to see AVB back at North London ?

(surely she has to follow her father wherever he plays at).

There is no way Dan Levy pays £80m for a 28 year old diminishing asset. Besides, forget the games, is there any way Bale could make it through one of Poch’s training sessions without getting hurt? Love him but his time here is over.

Dan?

He will return to Spurs as a player. It is going to happen. I have no idea why fans go on and on about "his wages" and "his 700K a week". Like they know that it is inconceivable that he would return for a wage that the club could afford. Think about bonuses, rights and royalties, book projects etc. There are more ways for a seasoned footballer to make cash than by a weekly transfer of funds from their club.

I did. All I can think of is "Gareth Bale: My Story" which has probably got morechance of winning the Booker Prize as Bale has of returning.

I’ve always thought there was a chance of this happening.

It’s a very, very slim chance, but even Levy would feel the emotional pull of bringing him back and pairing him with Harry.

Could the economics work? Probably not, but who knows what the plan is once the stadium comes online.

Didn't Real Madrid Finance almost the entire transfer fee for David Beckham through shirt sales? I'm sure something similar would happen at Spurs if this becomes a reality.

Who is Don Balon? The name sounds like a cheaper copy of Ballon d'or. And the award for the most drunk player of the year goes to..

Most shirt deals these days mean that we make our money from the deal itself and less from the shirts. Nike have paid the price, we afaik, won’t see much revenue wise from shirt sales, regardless of how many are sold or not.

I don't know the exact figures for Beckham's case, but by and large the whole "He'll pay for himself through shirt sales" argument is a complete myth. Clubs only get paid something like 10-15% of what each shirt sells for so the numbers just don't really add up.

See, that response was so smart that you just had to post it, and couldn't make your self think through its validity before posting. There is only a partial correlation between book awards and income potential. And football biographies are written exclusively to make money, not to win prizes. A former footballer you can barely remember as a player (a shame really, as he is Spurs fan), Dave Kitson, is adding to his retirement funds as we speak, as "The Secret Footballer". Now, it's not exactly something that would ever win the nobel prize in literature, but it doesn't have to be, it's not the point. Knowing this country, if the former director of communication in Downing Street can publish a book about Brexit and Cameron, a book about "the boy who became a man and returned home" with a great, smiling, bearded Bale showing off his man bun on the cover will sell quite a few copies, and not only to his own mum, either.

And it doesn't stop there. Book is only one example. Say your (or Bale's) contract states that the club grants the player the right to undertake other business activities not directly related to or in competition with the services he is rendering to the club under this contract. Now all of the sudden, Bale could launch his own range of nose hair clippers, his own brand of crap Spanish red wine, or his own thong bathing suits for men. All with Bale's heart icon on it. :greedy::greedy::greedy:

He'd have to sort his hairstyle before we'd allow him back. That weird comb-over thing going on won't fit in this squad!

I'd welcome him back but not at the cost that would be involved.
Anyone would want him back on a bosman at a sensible wage but he would cost a small fortune in which case nobody would want him so somewhere in the middle we might be interested.
Funny thing is a couple of years ago we would not even be worth a second glance but now we just might:)
Not that I'm fussed really which in itself says a lot about how far we've come.

Any of the last 20 years of watching Spurs what you said would have me going whaaaaat, it's a testament to our growth that even if I disagree with you, I can actually see your point.

It's not to do so much with growth, it's more to do with him and his attitude. We don't need any billy big bollocks in our squad who is only fit half the time and probably passed his best and who couldn't get out of here quick enough the first time round.
