Or maybe we have a nice deep squad with different options and possibilities? Isn't that what everyone was screaming for all summer?

I've no issue with Dier staying and providing depth in either defense or midfield, I'm wondering if Dier is happy with that role.

I'm not sure then what will become of Dier once Vic is fit again. Perhaps he will request a move. Time will tell i suppose.

Really happy with the Toby new btw.
if he performs better in training and on the pitch then vic then he will get the place he wants

Who says it’ll be just providing depth instead of true competition?

I don't like treating players like a baby. If Dier was flirting with United he had to be aware that it can go public. And it went. We all knew about it before this article showed up. Poch just described it all with more details. Also this United thing hapend like year ago. Two transfer windows since then. The end of that situation is that he is still here playing well, playing regulary. If the club had wanted to sell him they would have done it in the summer. I don't think we should worry about it too much.

I think people are being a bit sensitive. These players are playing at the top of their game in a very competitive league. I'm sure stuff a hell of a lot worse than this goes on all the time behind closed doors.

I would hope that the mentality Poch has done so well to instill means that Dier can handle a pretty mild conversation, where his manager says he can be the best English defender, going public.

I imagine he'll get more than enough time if he continues performing and training well. He can't have it both ways, if we wants to be at a club challenging for the title he has to expect severe competition for his place.

Totally agree, and that what was so illuminating about the extract about Walker losing his supposedly nailed on first team spot and how divisive that can be between players and their coach. Poch recognises this and by publishing it, wants the players to know that he knows what they are feeling, but that it is nothing personal, it's all about the team, the collective. Knuckle down, hard work, focus and avoid distraction. My interpretation anyhow.

Players will have been given the chance to pull anything from the book they weren't happy with.

Honestly there seems to be a lot of bed wetting going on over this unnecessarily. The club is a business and the players are employees, it's not a school boy team and I think some fans think it's some big love in. At the end of the day both Walker and Dier wanted to leave. I don't see the problem or what destabilising this book will do, if it does the "sanctum" wasn't that strong to begin with.

Do you honestly think Levy and Poch are stupid people? Stupid enough to publish a book without the players giving consent for pieces about them to be published? This would have all been read, amended, reworded many times before being given the ok by the club to publish.

I am not so sure ... This kind of thing has caused massive problems for other clubs before. You would have thought that Man U would not have allowed Jaap Staam to publish a book that claimed Fergie had tapped him up. The result? Fergie had to sell of his best players because of it. And that was a player writing a book not the manager!

And that is the crux of it - behind closed doors. When a manager can write a book about his current players - warts and all - that will cause problems. I just hope that the Daily Mail chose to use the 'best' story first and that the rest is fairly innocuous anecdotes showing how great the club is.

It said they spoke for four hours and Poch relayed a piece about five minutes long, it's pretty clear to me that he hasn't given away any important in house personal details.

I just can't see MP using the word 'shebang' in any context whatsoever.

Perhaps one?

I can feel the earth begin to move
I hear my needle hit the groove
And spiral through another day
I hear my song begin to say
Kiss me where the sun don't shine
The past was yours
But the future's mine
You're all out of time

I don't feel too steady on my feet
I feel hollow I feel weak
Passion fruits and holy bread
Fill my guts and ease my head
Through the early morning sun
I can see her here she comes
shebang the drums

After reading some of the other Mail articles from the book, there are quotes from Dele, Levy and Kane. I would be very surprised if all the players were in the book but I suspect they are all aware of it and most were interviewed. It seems honest and positive in my eyes and that's what Pochettino has the respect of the players in, honesty. The final line in this article "Eric is back" shows that Dier is committed and Pochettino is happy with him, his performances this season have proved this for me and his flexibility in moving from DM to CD (even mid-game against Bournemouth) shows that he's taken on board the managers coaching.

It's less of a tell-all, more a motivational book and how he's improved players through his and their hard work, if they're not committed to this they will be sold as we have seen in Benteleb, Ade and less so Walker

I'm still not seeing where Dier said he wanted to leave. I see Man U chasing him. Am I missing something?

The reality is if my comments and private chats to my boss became the subject of a book it would change my relationship with said boss. I wouldn’t be as open or honest in future because I'd always be thinking he might sing like a cannery in the future.

Even if players were given the power to redact certain parts they may not have felt able to refuse for fear it would further damage relations. They may not have been arsed at the time but seeing it all over the Daily Mail may well leave them feeling exposed.

Just don’t like it.
