Been very impressed with Pochettino tactically this season, showing he's still learning and improving. The approach to the Dortmund, Madrid, and Liverpool games in particular have really highlighted how far he's improved since his first season.

He didn't have 'his' players in the first season; there's no way he could've been so tactically flexible with the squad at his disposal.
He's now got a group of players who totally buy into his methods and even with 3 central midfielders missing (one of which on the morning of the game) the rest of the team adjust quickly to his demands/wishes.
But you're right - he has improved and the opposition will not have a clue how we'll set up game by game; a massive advantage to have.

Of course, but even in his second season, he was pretty rigid with a 4-2-3-1. Last year we began to see a tactical flexibility that we hadn't with the 3-4-2-1, this season though is taking it to a whole new level. We've played so many systems this season.

I'd actually completely forgotten about the book after the win yesterday. Suspect it will be too.

He found a system last season that worked and I for one would be happy if he used it every game but that just doesn't work. There are moments he names a team and I panic as he's trying something new and sometimes that doesn't come off and people question his tactical awareness. But this is happening less and less. He tinkers now and it starts to pay off. I'm sure I wasn't the only one discussing reservations with the line-up just as Kane was putting the ball into the net yesterday. By 2 nil I was openly apologising. He is getting the best out of the first 11 as we knew them but also keeping them fresh by using a bigger squad and he is ready for all differing types of opponents. It's frightening how good we can be.

The only thing I’m really sure about is he will play a back 3.I think we’ve played it every game since Sanchez arrived.Even if it meant weird choices at LWB.I wonder if it’s sanchez arrival that has made him feel more confident of experimenting infront of that back 3.He probably feels the back 3 are so solid he can do almost anything infront of them.To play Liverpool with no recognised DM would have seemed unthinkable in the past.

One day I well get round to reading this thread and I am sure this has been said countless times before, but it is incredible having Pochettino as our manager.

He is easily my favourite and greatest manager I have seen. I have read people in the past criticise his lack of plan B and C etc. but while we are watching players like Kane become World Class I feel we are watching a quality manager turn into a World Class one too.

When Poch started he attempted to work with what he had and implement his style. It didn't work so he adjusted his tactics and rightly turned our academy players who had already shown they could be useful squad players but tapped into their enthusiasm and talent to get past his first season.

Then he moved from a 4231 and showed he could us a 4141. Then he has moved to a 3521 to get the best out of our current players. Within that he was generally keeping his same style of entertaining play. However he has now done what Klopp and others managers don't he has further adjusted his tactics to adapt to different styles and respecting opponents and drawn with Madrid and smashed Liverpool who have given him trouble. He is turning into a proper manager and it is a joy to see.

He is still not perfect no manager will ever be, and we will all disagree with some decisions he makes but he is at the very least showing he is learning on the job and it is great to see his development.

He truly is magic, when we see that formation (y)

Perhaps someone can help?

Can anyone remember who Pochettino appointed as captain and assistant captains when he joined Spurs?

I think Kaboul was one of the assistant captains...

So friggin' glad that 423shite system is a rarity these days. Utter useless crap that for a while took the world of football one step backwards. Only Mourinho is the last manager for a top PL club still sticking to it.

Complete bollocks.
It's a stale and flawful system that was a complete side step in the development of the game, and only serves to reduce the number of goals scored, so a poor or less-than-perfect team can be made to look solid because they are playing in a boring and destructive way. Only Mourinho persists with it of the prestigious PL managers. That should tell you all you need to know.

I think Kaboul was one of the assistant captains...

Kaboul was Captain with Adebayor and Lloris Vice Captains. These were the "leaders" amongst the players at that time. Kaboul and Adebayor were likely the big characters in the dressing room with sway and influence amongst the younger, impressionable players (which explains everything about our performances at that time) but I'm guessing Lloris was always Pochettino's preferred Captain.

Obviously he didn't want to destabilise an already morale damaged dressing room and wanted to give everyone an opportunity to buy into his philosophy.

It was telling how he revoked the captaincies from Kaboul and Adebayor not long after, as he obviously saw firsthand how negative their influence actually was - going as far as to freeze them out, and then rightly give the captaincies roles to Lloris and Vertonghen (with Harry not long after).

Loved how he identified and sucked the "poison" out of our squad back then. Something AVB, Sherwood and to a lesser extent Harry were oblivious to, and unable to do.

It was at that point I knew things were changing at our club and we finally had someone in charge who doesn't fuck about or do things by halves. Then the rest is history.

Just watched the BBC interview and the thing that struck me most was ...
... the hair. Somebody needs to explain that Autumn Russet doesn't pair well with salt and pepper stubble. Unless he's entered an AVB-lookalike competition, he needs to rethink that look. I'll give him 4 games to turn it around, else Poch out!

My wife comment on his hair when she seems him on tv...a lot, she reckons there may be a bit of dye involved....
