I know this has been said before but do the majority on here agree that we lack that game changer type of player with a bit of pace and trickery? That and/or a better back-up striker mabye with some pace.

For me, today’s game completely highlighted this. We were solid for the most part but without Kane, if Son isn’t on form we have very few players who can beat a man with a bit of pace and trickery and magic to open up teams in these tight big games. Chelsea have Hazard,Willian and Pedro, Lpool have Salah,Coutiniho and Mane, City have Sane,Aguero,Jesus,Sterling,Silva,KDB, Man.U don’t actually have that many which is why today’s game was so close BUT they do have Lukaku,Rashford,Pogba, mikerteryan AND Martial off the bench who won the game. Dare I say it we could do with that Bale type!

We have 4 top draw attacking players: Kane,Alli,Son,Eriksen but Alli not really consistent enough and only Son and Kane can really beat a man and score a goal or create a chance.

For me we lost today because we still lack this type of player. Also imagine if we’d been able to bring on Batsuayi instead of Llorente, I’m pretty sure his pace and movement would’ve given their defence something to think about as opposed to an ageing slow Llorente.

Really disappointing today as a draw would’ve been ok but losing again and again not really looking like scoring is not good enough if we really believe we want to and can win this league.

Poch has taken us so far but until we add 1-2 players like this I think we will fall short of the title.

Thoughts? Is this the answer, is it a lack of belief, it’s so hard to see us being so close but yet still actually not good enough to win a league or trophy. People keep saying how good we are but I think we are just not quite there yet to be honest.

Eriksen. Had an off day but is our key that can pick many different locks
Yes,he’s great from deep but he can’t that often beat a man, go past them with pace etc. That game today at 0-0 was tailor made for a Hazard type player to change the game. Kane usually is the one who does that for us but other than him we don’t have anyone like that if Son isn’t on form.

I thought Eriksen played well. Problem today for me was a lack of belief we could go there and win it. The goal was a sucker punch as we deserved a point.

Not many teams will get much up there under Jose so we just need to suck it up and bounce back strong, it's a long old season.

Barkley and Lamela.
I like the thinking, Barkley could possibly help with this as he’s quite powerful and can create something out of nothing and Lamela’s creativity would help also, both would’ve been great options to have had today but do you think they’d have made a difference. Say we had brought them on by 70 minutes do you think they’d have opened the game up for us like a Hazard or Coutiniho or Martial could’ve and did for them? Surely you’d have rathered the option to bring on a Martial type of player than a Barkley or Lamela?

Like your optimism and agree very tough place to under Jose but do you not think if we had added that gamechanger type of player to our squad that he would’ve given us a better chance and mabye made the difference and stretched them a bit today?

Splash the cash, get Wifried Zaha. Reckon he'd be a beast in our side. 1 on 1 he's one of the best in the league IMO.

EXACTLY the type of player I think we were crying out for today mate. Think him or if possible someone even better would make a huge difference for us but would certainly be over the moon if we could land him. Seems like a good character too and knows the league.

We had 3 players with over 20 goals last year & Eriksens stats. We have plenty of players that influence games

Gamechanger is just a cliche knee jerk reaction for when we don't win.

Would this thread be here if Alli had poked that home?

Yep, this.

Eriksen plays yet another pass that very few in world football can execute on a consistent basis, and should really have been converted. That game-changing ability isn't enough though apparently.....

Remember Kane was out.

He could well have been the game-changer today.
I don't think so mate we lost last year with him playing and we still would have lost today imo, it's not who is in the team always more of what is lacking which is inner belief.

But he missed right and martial didn't so they won so what are you saying.

His presence on the field, alone, would have given us more belief today.

Exactly mate this is what I mean, without Kane in the big games we don’t have enough other threats as shown today. Our attack looks good when we spank lesser teams and everyone gets on the scoresheet but the top top quality players do it against the big teams in the big games and we are lacking one of those who can stretch the game a bit in games exactly like today vs manboring.

Eh?

The point is it's a game of fine margins. Signing a player doesn't guarantee us a win today, we have plenty of players who can assist or score out of nothing
