What the pundits & media are saying about us

Thing is, you know next summer when they come to do their predictions for the league, we'll be back to being placed 5th, 6th by most pundits. They'll be lauding all the big money signings the plastic clubs make and continue to underestimate us.

They're all so stupid that most of them only focus on players, failing to miss that the main reason for our success is Pochettino.

I watch a lot of sport and the pundits involved in every other sport, apart from football, are all incredibly knowledgeable. They all have an experience of the game, clubs and players which gives them an insight which is beyond anything a spectator has.
And this is what I expect, a much superior understanding than my own.

The clowns who are involved in football offer absolutely nothing new or insightful. One simple look at our average league position over the last 15 years or so would show a direct trend from mid-table to top four yet, as you say, they always default to us dropping out of the top four with the only justification being 'we haven't spent as much'.

The difference is that football is by a mile the most heated in terms of 'I'm right and your team is shit' culture. They all know that at the expense of quality analysis they can pander to all the opposition fans by dismissing facts and continuing the narratives they all want to be true

Love it how most of the pundits are saying nice things about us but many of you are still moaning. Just enjoy it for once.

Agree with Bellamy and Ballague 100%

Of course winning matters but it's not the only barometer of success. Secondly, we should be enjoying these moments not stressing about winning stuff.

Geoff Shreeves was a grade A ****, Bellamy is making great points and he's just blindly repeating the same question over and over and ignoring everything being said to him.

Spurs have never won the league in my lifetime. And only won three cups - one FA, two League - since I properly started watching football (as much as I would like to say I played a pivotal cheering role in the 81-84 glory years, I suspect I had more pressing things to do like shitting myself and crying – some things never change!).

Winning stuff isn’t something I’ve grown accustomed to. A new generation seems to want to win at all costs despite us having lesser right to now but it doesn’t get much better than Wembley on Wednesday. Drink it in

Expect it from Balague but not Bellamy. Comes across well and knowledgeable

Shreeves is a dick and was the first one nodding "yes Harry" when Redknapp was all "this is as good as it gets".

Shreeves, in this piece, was just doing his job as a prompter to give the others the points to counter. Excellent piece and pretty much sums up how I feel. However, I still think we will win a trophy or two during this period. It struck me while watching this that we are only part way through our 4th season under Poch with us getting better each year. I think it is great to see the growth and I, for one, am going to enjoy the ride.

Fixed.
Cant standbthe bloke.
Antagonistic twat.
His post match interviews are awful.
Tries to wind managers up.
No wonder Redknapp told him to fk off.
Someones gonna punch gim on the snout one day.
Hope it's Sean Dyche.

Arsene Wenger - FA Cup wins.
Fans happy? Nope.

Success = trophies as a barometer is fickle. Yes we all want silverware, but in a Premier League era where it's no longer just one or two at the top each year, but four or five and mega millions being spent, its hard to be dominant.

When was the last time we had a team win the EPL back to back?

Manchester United 2006/7, 2007/2008, 2008/2009.

Seeing as chelsea are very unlikely to defend their title this season, that will be nearing ten years.

If you want a guaranteed trophy haul, go play or manage Bayern Munich, PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona.

I agree with Bellamy, Spurs and Poch are already winning. We are a great side that people love to watch.

Right now where I live my German football friends all want to watch Tottenham and most of them are Bayern fans.

I do think this group deserves a trophy, but I am conscious of the fact that we might not win one under Poch. That we might always be nearly men.

But frankly, rather this right now than George Graham or Juande Ramos, even if it means no trophies.

I love this club right now, more than I have in a really long time and that to me = winning.

I think the reason everyone keeps on about trophies isnt because what they represent in themselves but that they go a long way to making this great situation we find ourselves in sustainable.
Without them the players and Manager may start looking elsewhere. They're not all going to stay here on half the wages and have nothing to show for it.
Thats why a trophy is so important.
If we cant offer trophies or wages but only good will its going to be very hard to keep this great thing we'v got going.

You can tell watching that, how much Bellamy would have loved to play under Poch.

He would have been an absolute animal under him, yes he was a pain in the arse (one of those that only his fans would love), but i would have loved to see an injury free Bellamy in this team. One of the hardest working players i've ever seen and comes across as having his head screwed on, but with underrated quality.

I loved the bit where he threw George Graham’s record in his face. Was he successful? :ROFLMAO:

Except now they will be jumping on the back of the completely fabricated stories of him going to Real Madrid.

Exactly. Last season we finished second, which was a fabulous achievement for our club. We've only finished second in the league a few times in our entire history. Its completely brushed over by pundits and the media hence why you get people thinking that us winning the league or champions league wouldn't be a monumental achievement. For the majority of Spurs fans doing either of those would be one of the greatest moments in their lifetimes.

It's different chatting about it on SC too where 99% of posters are knowledgeable of whats happened at our club. It's when you go on twitter, for example, where that's massively diluted and other fans being commenting on the wind up that things get so massively skewed in the wrong direction. They're the "must win something" brigade who want it all yesterday.

(I know Poch said we have to win a trophy on Wednesday but his context was different).

Pundits would believe in our ability to win anything if we had bought our current squad for their current value, if we had gone out in the summer and paid a combined £350 million for Kane, Eriksen and Dele their perception would be completely different, maybe they are right maybe not but I am certain that is how they think.

As a Liverpool supporter mate texted me yesterday it is a great time to be a Spurs season ticket holder. We have had some really good teams since the late seventies but this is way far and away the best team since the 60's. Even when we lose it is hard to fault the way we approach games with the desire to win every game we play. When it comes together (as it has a number of times this season) it is some of the best football you are ever going to see.
