Nice piece. But we do need to win against palace on the weekend. To truly be considered a great team we need consistency and trophies. I hope this season we get them. Until the weekend i will enjoy our victory over madrid.

I think you've missed the point of the article baz, he's writing about the media's attitude towards us, no other club in our position, which in all honesty is a pretty unique one, gets, or has had, this constant negative narrative spewed into the public domain from all angles at a club striving to compete and ultimately be successful without a lottery winning type of cash injection. He's just mirroring what many are saying on this forum.

I get that. But that perception will not change if we don't win anything. It will only be enforced if we lose at palace.
It has nothing to do with how much we have spent it is about consistency.
We have come close, semi in the fa, final in the league cup, finishing 3rd and second in the league. Everyone agrees we have a great team on our day. We just need to show we are the best all season.

You are still missing the point, the article is talking about a biased agenda to belittle the accomplishments of a young team and manager punching above their weight. The bias in the media that is obvious to everyone except some on here that flippantly treat it as a persecution complex suffered by some fans. The negativity is real folks. Stop trying to dumb it down.

I wouldn't call it bias, but a perpetual lazy narrative, that basically boils down to the fact that very few people, pundits and journalists seem able to grasp the fact that Spurs in 2017 is different from Spurs in 2008.

The rags do tend to favour the Citys Manures, Liverpools and Chelsea's because they have the most fans. The London papers are normally fairly effusive towards us.

Agree in part, but I don't think the media will change the narrative much even if we do start winning pots, they'll just modify it.

What we've achieved is great but outside our own fanbase not many people care, the fact is we have lost finals and semi finals, we haven't beat Chelsea away for something like 25 years, our away record against Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal isn't too great either. We need to burst those bubbles and win trophies as @Lilbaz says to change the perceptions of us. Newcastle once beat Barcelona but they are remembered as a side who played good football but didn't win anything.

"Madrid weren’t beaten by a team greased with oil money and financially doped beyond its identity, but a side built from relatively modest parts. Relatively modest homegrown parts."

Bingo!!

Every fan of every club thinks the media is biased against them. It's all nonsense.

This belongs in the "is there a conspiracy against us?" thread:

I think you are missing the point.

Every time we lose a match we get "see, Spurs won't win a trophy this year and then Kane and Alli need to leave to get the trophies and wages they deserve"

When we win it's "Surely now the eyes of the worlds biggest clubs will be on Kane, Alli and Poch, surely they will be galaticos next year"

Contrast this with the other clubs in the division. Nobody says De Bruyne or Hazard needs to go to Real Madrid. I don't hear anyone saying Mane or Coutinho need to leave Liverpool to win trophies. And nobody seems to say that Sanchez and Ozil must leave Arsenal because they deserve CL football.

This is 90% of it in my view. Every club feels there is some media bias against them but it's the laziness of the reporting which results in a more widespread take up of an incorrect narrative.

It will take something like winning a trophy to change this i feel but we'd all benefit in general if the papers actually employed good writers or spent time creating decent content around sport. The majority don't and just regurgitate any old shite they find, mostly to generate reaction, outrage and hits.

De Bruyne and Hazard are both earning a huge pile of cash more than our players. Plus City and Chelsea are more likely to win trophies than us.

The press speculation about Coutinho to Barcelona was constant all summer. Liverpool have been the brunt of way more negative articles this season than we have.

The media repeatedly say that Sanchez should leave, and did all summer, and now speculate about how settled he is. They also repeatedly bang on about how shit Ozil is. And the number of negative articles about Wenger and Arsenal in general over the last two seasons has been phenomenal - I'm fed up with reading it.

The majority of articles and pundits are rightly praiseworthy about Spurs these days. Similarly it's their job to highlight things like consistency and whether our top players will stay, whether it's lazy (like a lot of "analysis") or not. Every club gets negative press - ask other fans or read other fan forums and they'll tell you the same thing.

Agreed with all that, except the part about being fed up of reading about Arsenal's misfortunes. ;)
