Girardi needs to be fired. And yesterday. What a fucking asshole. Get the FUCK out of my city.
I reserve the right to retract and revise. He's still a fucking idiot but i think he might have vindicated himself. What a fucking series win. Incredible. Love my guys. Absolutely love them. We were supposed to be a year away. Now we're back in the ALCS. That's insane.

Also, i have a story. When i was younger, I went to the Yankees ST during my schools February break. Before the big leagues got going later on, I went to the minors complex and saw someone working on his swing. His coach was calling him Gardy. It was Brett Gardner. My step-dad told me to go get his autograph but i didn't want to because i've always felt weird going up to people asking for autographs and pictures. What a fuck up that was. I've always loved him though since I saw we called up that same player a few years later and because he just grinds out at bats. Very gritty player. And that at bat tonight in the 9th was absolutely incredible.

yup. lets face it - with 162 games regular season baseball can be a colossal bore, and baseball was my first sporting love. but the play-offs - limited to just the best 8 teams - are usually high quality.

Really been enjoying these play offs. Houston have impressed me the most as well as the Dodgers. But I don't know if that is because the opposition were not so good. I have also been impressed more and more with the Yankees who seem to have a number of game changers in their team plus appear to play their best when up against it.
So who is going to win?

Astros. We have home field advantage and matched up well with them in the regular season. Fresher pitching, too.

Poor yesterday from the Cubs. Admittedly though it was difficult conditions to pitch in. Going to be a tough game 5 in DC tonight. I'm confident Hendicks can get the job done but we need to get the bats going early. Especially given that we blew through the bullpen last night, we can't afford for it to be a close game late on.

Phew, what a game last night between the Cubs and Nats! It was a long and tense game but you couldn't take your eyes off it. Until the final out came you genuinely had no idea who was going to come away with the W. Just a brilliantly entertaining game. On the downside though, the Cubs bullpen is all burned out and they've had to use starters as relief pitchers over the series. Even Wade Davies was made to get 7 outs, threw about 50 pitches in teh end which is not good going into the next series. I already thought we had a slim chance of getting past the Dodgers but after such a gruelling series against the Nationals it's going to be a really tough ask

I caught the last 3 innings of the Cubs/Nationals games as I couldn't sleep.
Really did look like Cubs were going to blow it with the closing pitcher, but he turned it round.

Yeah the trouble now is we've got a really tough series against the Dodgers but have blazed through our whole bullpen in the last series and in particular the closer will be struggling after pitching 2 1/3 innings. I'm not confident about this one.

Was that not one of the worst ever calls by an umpire tonight?!?
How can a 3rd base umpire call it as a foul??

Absolutely criminal that. What the hell was the 3rd base umpire doing? I barely even know where to start
  1. If a foul tip is not reviewable, why was the Dodgers' coach allowed to ask the umps to review it
  2. If that is allowed, why is it? If you're not allowed to review foul tips because it's too hard to judge in a replay, why the hell are they allowed to judge it with not technical support whatsoever? Just makes no sense. If you can review it then review it properly, or if you can't review it, don't fucking review it. Not this weird half-and-half scenario like we had last night.
  3. To overrule a decision on the field, there has to be clear and irrefutable evidence that the call was wrong. How on earth can the 3rd base ump possibly say that he knows it was a foul tip beyond any doubt? He may have thought he maybe heard something, but absolutely no way in hell did he see it definitively enough to overrule the call on review...even though they're not allowed to be reviewing it in the fucking first place. They even admitted that much to Maddon and said one of them "thought he heard 2 noises" - how the fuck is "maybe I heard something, I dunno" enough to overrule a call? A call that shouldn't even be fucking being reviewed in the first place?!?!?
This is definitely one of those times I'm amazed someone at MLB HQ didn't call up and tell them he was out. I know it looks bad because then the play has basically been reviewed when it wasn't supposed to be, but they could've even disguised it by saying it's non-reviewable so the call stands regardless of what they said in their little meeting etc. I don't think anyone wouldn've really complained because everyone knows what the call should've been.

There has to be some form of punishment, especially for the 3rd base ump. MLB are extremely lucky that Granderson was out right afterwards anyway so it's all relatively insignificant now. Imagine if he'd gone yard on the next pitch though and ended the Cubs' season? There'd have been riots in Chicago

Well, that's that then for the Cubbies. As disappointing as it is not to repeat, it was always a long shot and getting to the NLCS for the 3rd year running is still a great achievment. The Dodgers were by far the better team of the two, not just in the LCS but all season long and full deserve to be going to the World Series. The Cubs never really got going in the postseason and were somewhat fortunate to get past the Nationals to be brutally honest. The likes of Rizzo and Bryant in particular need to take a good look at themselves as neither of them stepped up in the postseason. The bullpen as well has a lot to answer for but I lay part of the blame on Maddon for that as he really does make some strange calls when it comes to pitching changes and messes them about to no end so it's hard for them to get into any kind of rhythm or routine.

My two cents anyway :D

what a perfect day. Spurs beat Real Madrid in the Champions League and the Houston Astros win thier first World Series. I should probably give up watching sports - I cant imagine a better day in the future.

Soooo, Aaron Boone it is. Ummmmmm. Okay? So indifferent.

What a fucking cluster fuck from the organization. I dont get it. Why the fuck do you fire Girardi for someone with zero coaching experience? Unreal

Oh this Otani thing is laughable. Small market and west coast so its closer to home and feels like home. So like maybe stay in Japan then? Im not even upset about not coming to the Yankees. It’s just a needless charade he’s putting on now though. Dodgers are the token big market. Cubs are the token non west coast. Rangers are uhhh, idk, no chance in hell. Giants are a slight possibility but the Mariners are the obvious pick here. Closest to home, small market, west coast and big Japanease population. I dont get why you just dont sign already and end this charade?

Anyway, Boone’s official. Huge risk but could also be a huge reward too. I love keeping Rothschild on as pitching coach. Our pitching was great last year. Have to keep CC now. I’d put him on the Pettitte contract(essentially a rolling 1 year contract). My pipe dream is looking into getting Machado a year early if Baltimore’s price isnt nuts seeing as he likely wont resign there anyway and i think we’d be favorite to sign him.
