why not relevant?

Because he's one of the most sought after young players in Europe. They'll be big clubs competing for his signature. It's not as though we'll be the only club in for him so he has a take it or leave it decision to make.

Gabriel Jesus was earning about 14k a week at Palmeiras but Barca, Madrid, Bayern etc competed for his contract and he ended up with six figures.

i agree that it is probable that we would be outbid by those rich clubs, but after we succeeded in signing sanchez, i start to believe our bargaining power (not in terms of money) is stronger. i think if we perform well in CL, say reaching quarter or semi finals, we will become even more attractive to talents like pulisic.

I do this quite regularly but the aim has to be to have at least two players for each position, and then see where there may be gaps.

So we currently have (those in brackets are named in their main position elsewhere):

GK - Lloris, Vorm, Gazzaniga
RB - Trippier, Aurier, KWP (Dier)
LB - Rose, Davies, (KWP), (Vertonghen)
CB - Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Sanchez, (Dier), Foyth
CM: Dembele, Winks, Dier, Wanyama (Sissoko)
AM: Eriksen, Dele, Lamela, Son, N'Koudou, Sissoko
ST: Kane, Llorente

Looking at that, it's hard to see any obvious gaps, but for me, in order of importance:

1. I think we need an attacking midfielder still, basically as an upgrade on N'Koudou. He doesn't look like he's going to make it and having that player who can do something a bit different is very important. I thought Sissoko might offer it but I just don't think he's good enough either. Someone like Zaha but presumably not as expensive. We may also need a further cultured option if Lamela proves that his injury has ruined him.

2. In central midfield it's worrying that in recent weeks we've had to play Sissoko there. I wonder if we need someone else who can offer some dynamism in midfield to give Wanyama a rest, or alternatively a more cultured player to cover for Dembele's constant injury issues.

3. Considering we play with three centre backs, and with Dier often occupied in midfield, this doesn't give us a lot of cover if anyone goes down injured. Having said that, having two back-up centre backs is tricky to manage, and if we sign a body in midfield, Dier is more likely to become a defensive option more regularly. We've also got CCV still out and about to come back at some point.

I don't think the squad needs anybody desperately for the season, but getting long term transfer targets in January could be wise

Barkley - Get him before the summer, once he's on a bosman all craziness could happen and he could end up at city or somehwhere just to fill up there homegrown quota.

Sessegnon - Again, to beat the competition rather than immediate need, maybe doing an Alli like deal where we loan him back to Fulham for half a season

I would also keep an eye out for what is happening with Lyon's Nabil Fekir, if Alli were to go to Real or Eriksen to Barca he would be the player i would like to see come in.

If eriksen is out for a period of time we’ve no one that can replace him, maybe lamela but I think it might be time to cut our losses on him so Barkley or similar makes sense imo

Right now, we look rather thin with our injuries. I do not think we can even count Wanyama and Lamela until we see them at least make the bench, thus the reason Sissoko has had to play. Dembele is still getting match fit so I am not even sure what type of option he is for a starting nod.

I agree with Dembele and Lamela. The former has always had injury issues and the latter has now been out for so long that at the moment we cannot rely on him as part of the squad. It's why they would be two areas that I'd look to focus on strengthening if we can.

Wanyama I think will be fine ultimately. Just an annoying injury at an annoying time of the season. He'll be back and whacking people soon enough.

At the end of the day, barring goalkeeper and striker the fewest number needed on the pitch in each position will be 2 at any given time. 2 full backs/ wing backs, 2 centre backs, 2 central midfielders, 2 attacking midfielders/ wingers. Therefore, we need a minimum a 4 in each of these positions for whom it is their specialist positions.

Fb/wb: Rose, Davies, Trippier, Aurier
Cb: Toby, Jan, Sanchez, Foyth
Cm: Dembele, Winks, Wanyama, Dier
Am: Eriksen, Dele, Son, Sissoko, Lamela, Nkoudou

We play with one striker and one goalie, we have Kane, Llorente, Lloris, Vorm, Gazzaniga.

The versatility of Dier, Davies, Sissoko and Son helps too, but ideally we could sacrifice an attacking midfielder (as we tend to play just 2 these days) for a centre back (as we tend to play three), and replace either Sissoko or Lamela (mediocre and injured respectively) with Barkley who would lessen the pressure on Dembele and Eriksen in on fell swoop.

17 year old, Jann-Fiete Arp (striker) who has a contract expiring in 2019 with Hamburg would be worth buying and loaning back.

His idol apparently is Harry Kane and he has broken into Hamburg’s team scoring 2 in 3.

Germany under 17’s record is something like 18 goals in 19 games.

Being linked today in the press and would be a good idea to wrap up a deal early.

As always it's hard to properly judge these players due to their lack of expierence at a high level. But I watched him at the weekend and he really is like a mini-Germany version of Kane. Loves backing into players, moves across the line, drops deep and aims for the bottom corner. Very intelligent player and would finally be a proper back up for Kane.

We'll see. Madrid and Barca are heavily linked

i think we will also find an upgrade on nkoudou, but that's for summer, depending on how edwards progressed this season.
don't think we will (and we can) make significant recruitment in winter, maybe we will go for some hidden gems as we did with dele (and holtby?)

Saw the link and he looks like a top prospect but still, of course, early to say.
Thing is, most of Germany's top talents end up at Bayern M.
For him personally, I think it would be much better for him stay at HSV to gain 1st team experience at familiar HSV rather than come to, say, Spurs, and play for the u-21 team. No CF right now can oust Kane from the starting spot at Spurs anyway - and for as a long as Kane plays for Spurs.

If we do sign someone, it will only be Barkley
There's been rumours coming from Everton that he is now willing to sign a new contract though
I guess it all depends on whether the new manager can talk him into that, if he does sign a new contract with Everton that will end our interest
