@heelspurs

Have you seen the Gustavo goal for Marseille. I'm just watching the game now, 42 minute he scores when his shot nutmegs three defenders in a row, but all are about 2/3 yards apart, including one standing on the goal line. it's hilarious.
Brilliant. Thanks for the heads-up. For those interested here it is:

I remember saying at the start of the season Gustavo was a fascinating signing, and not just because he looks like a a member of Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Just like to add that Bruno Genesio is a god among mortals in the manager game.:p

@Bus-Conductor

another name to the Raid Lyon List: Myziane Maolida. Let's get him before Monaco or PSG get him for 8M and 2 years from now we have to pay 40 for him. His starting path is blocked right now anyway. Get it done Levy. Right after the Aouar deal that is.

There was a distinct lack of decent European league options this weekend, several games I wouldn't have minded catching, Genoa v Roma, Nice v Lyon, Marseille v Guingamp. I've got them all recorded later, but all would have been preferable to the PL games on offer.

Tactically, I think Genesio is deeply flawed, he massively under achieved with a fantastic squad last year, not just in terms of results but in terms of performances too. You look at the squad he had at his disposal last year, Tolisso, Fekir, Lacaette, Depay, etc

I don't think he's improved much tactically this year, but what he is doing this year - as former youth coach - in bringing through these kids deserves some credit. Lyon are also capitalising on those around them that are struggling or transitioning, Monaco, Nice, Marseille, St Etienne, Lille, Bordeaux etc.

I'd be hard pressed to name a club with a better record for producing and introducing quality academy players than Lyon over the last few years.

Good points BC. Was just taking the piss about Genesio of course. Lyon have talent and he benefits from that. I don't really watch them with a view to critique the tactics, purely for the excitement.

As far as games this wknd the big one is coming up, Valencia-Barca. also monaco-PSG but we know how that one is going to go.

Yeah, particularly looking forward to seeing a resurgent Valencia take on Barca at home, always a good atmosphere.

Might be a little too much attacking action for your heart though :D. Try and take it light.

btw Marcelino had done what so many others have been unable to do there. Can't remember if it was Brassell, Lowe, or Horncastle that said the board have ceded power to him which is why he is succeeding. But Marcelino has done great jobs at Villareal and now Valenia. Wonder if a bigger job is in his future (though Los Che has potential to be big) or if he needs oranges nearby to succeed.

oh well, see you in the La liga thread.

What a ball from my boy Aouar for Lyon’s third goal. Eriksen-esque

That fifth goal was all academy. Quality goal too.
Was good as well. that's why I said this a couple posts previous:

He scored a better one last week that showed he could move his hips and beat a man. Only 18. When you think of the talent coming out of Lyon how did we miss with N'jie and let the others go? And Danny-boy better stay nice with Aulas.

Nice 1-0 down to Toulouse and down to 10 men. Been a lively game. Seri and Koziello are lively little fuckers.

What's gone wrong at Nice? One of the podcasts mentioned they were bottom three, I haven't been following Ligue 1 much but that sounds like something's gone Everton-style wrong.

I’m honestly not sure. They’ve still got some very decent players; they lost Pereira (the player we were heavily linked with)and Dalbert, but gained a Wesley Schneider and managed to hold onto Seri who looked to be Barca bound last summer. Last game of theirs I watched (v Marseille) they were 2-0 up and cruising then just went to pieces and ended up losing 2-4.

They were by far the better team tonight, even with ten men and ended up deservedly winning the game, with a heavy helping hand from Toulouse’s ineptitude, who missed a penalty at 1-0 and then conceded one and got themselves down to ten men too, then conceded a second in injury time.

Got to say I was impressed by Nice tonight. Though Toulouse were bizarrely worse with the extra man than they were at 11v11. Seri is a dynamo. Saint-Maximin was also a real livewire when he came on.

Looks like Bielsa's gone. Apparently his lawyer has said he's not interested in what Lille have to say, regardless of whether they are intending to sack him or not. I think they've behaved despicably personally.

Genesio's at it again I see. WTF he was doing playing Aouar as an ARM first half is anyone's guess. Lyon missed a pen and a few cracking chances in this game.

I think Lille have really shot themselves up the arse. They have a young squad and also some new signings that needed time bed in and if they'd given him the time I'm sure he'd have got them motoring. The way they went about it was despicable IMO.

In other news, Thauvin continues to produce the goods, scored a cracker, assisted one and played the key pass for Marseille's third.

Marseille were given a ridiculous penalty to draw 1-1 tonight. Possibly the worst hand ball decision I've ever seen. The Montpellier defender has his arm tucked across his midriff and is about a yard away when the ball gets whacked at his stomach and hits the arm he's got tucked into his stomach. Diabolical decision.

Good result for Lyon, Aouar played pretty well again.

Would just like to get it on the record that if we don't go raid OL for Houssem Aouar in January and/or the summer then someone's job needs looking at. What a fookin talent and only 19. We need Hugo to get on the blower. Oh, and Lyon beat an up-for-it Amiens 2-1 after being down 1-0 and being overrun in the first half. Good to have game changers in your squad.
