Love Toby and hope he recovers fast, but I actually think Vertonghen has been the better defender for us this season. I'd be more concerned if we had lost Jan.

Pretty surprised at how many people think Toby is not quite at it, or not as good as last year.
He is still astonishingly good. Yes Jan is in great form but to say we won't miss him is naive. Even on the back of last nights hour without him.
He, Jan & Sanchez are a unit; they've gelled amazingly quickly & we would miss any of them.

Can anyone explain why Sanchez plays in the middle when it’s him Toby jan.But when it’s dier he drops into middle.Surly Sanchez is quicker than dier,Maybe dier height or perceived as a better passer? Dier obviously have no issue in right as has played RB.

He will be a miss of course but it isn't as bad as when he was out last year, it's not about him being not as good its about our defence being much better.

He’s a big loss, but I don’t think he’s been quite as imperious as he was in his first season.

Tough act to follow though, as he was basically faultless.

I think its mainly because Jan and Toby are the stoppers and Sanchez the sweeper.
Dier is less good in the one-on-one stopper role compared to Sanchez, and so moves into the sweeper role - plus Dier isnt that slow!

we've conceded 7 goals in 10 league games.

Christ..

I'm not slating the guy.

I'm just saying I'm not overly concerned that hes out for a few weeks that includes the international break.

I look forward to him coming back into the squad and getting back to the form of last season.

Substandard compared to what!? God!?

Yes.

Compared to the standards that he's set previously his form has dipped.

An out of form Toby still trumps most CB that include Dier. I was merely saying that I'm not concerned with having both Dier and Foyth to deputise and him only being out for a few weeks over the international break.

People really have got the wrong end of my stick.

The football gods are having a great laugh at our expense at the moment!

Fingers crossed it isn't too bad!

For me that reads they are doing a second scan to make sure it’s heeling right so they don’t push him on and make it worse
