Been linked for a while as everyone knows. Contract expires in the summer. Latest rumours are that Chelsea could be coming in for him again after their deal last summer collapsed:

He won’t be match fit for at least 6 weeks. Hopefully he’s been training hard.

From what i have read here it seems that we don't want to take the risk because of his injury. He wants to (and must) play to get a chance to get selected for the world cup.

He should just stay at Everton and try to get some games and then we can come for him in the summer when/if he's fit. Will he get more minutes at Chelsea compared to Everton? I dont think so..

Why should he wait for us though? It sounds like we promised that we'd sign him in the last window and we didn't. It sounds like he pulled the plug on the move to Chelsea because we promised him we'd be back for him in January. If we don't sign him now he's not going to trust us anymore is he? There are obviously reasons why we haven't moved for him, but if another team are showing that they want him no matter what then they're probably going to be his first choice destination.

If i have understood whats the case from reading on this forum: He's injury was more severe than we thought - which is why we don't want to move for him (yet). I get what you are saying and i'm agreeing with you. There is a huge risk involved (for Ross) if this is the case. He may get back to his old form and vice versa... And Its not certain that he would get the opportunity to play for a bigger club again. I guess it all comes down to how much he wants to play for us and if he would be willing to take the risk.. Chelsea could be the safer (and better) option but you never know. We all know what Poch can do with players and i think he knows it as well. And will he play more at Chelsea compared to staying with Everton until summer? I'm sure he's thinking about that as well if really wants to make the England squad.

Surely such outlays are for long term not just the next six weeks?

Not sure what you are saying, but assuming he is now recovered and fit, he hasn’t played a full game and he hasn’t had the MoPo training intensity. Hence I don’t think he will be ready until mid February.

Would be a very good signing, especially as Dembele can't be played in every game these days. Hope we get this done.

Has Barkley played in central midfield much? I only recall seeing him as an attacking mid.

If we were to sign him, those 6 weeks or more wouldn't be completely wasted. It would enable him to get settled into his new home, start getting to know his new teammates and start getting to know Poch's system by attending team meetings and studying game DVDs, not to mention the time spent with the Spurs medical/physio/fitness people.

I seem to recall him playing there against us I think last year and having a excellent game
Might of been the year before but I think it was at the lane

Happy to sign if he is a bargain but am not convinced he would improve us. I don’t see him as being the Dembele replacement we need.

Everton’s stance is probably ‘sign a new deal and play, don’t and you won’t get near the team’, it certainly was under Koeman, whether Big Sam feels equally as strong, given their poor season is another matter.

With players coming back to fitness, our immediate needs not quite so needy.
So would be good to acquire RB now for a reasonable fee, allowing him to gain fitness and understanding of systems for when demands grow towards end of season

Stupid to wait until the summer the lad needs game time to make the world cup year and let's be honest if we're hoping to sign him on a free he might as well join someone else because he won't be getting any game time for Everton and rightly so unless he signs a new contract.
