If Edwards isn’t with 1st squad I guess he must be injured or going on loan. Didn’t he miss last match as well ?

Keeping everything crossed that Edwards isn't in squad to avoid chance of injury as he'll be minimum on bench against Wimbledon.
If he's got injured just before he's got chance to be in the squad again he's got no luck.

What a goal by Bennetts, said that a few times this season. Looked like it had got away from him there

There’s a very real possibility we could get relegated which obviously the club don’t want. If Edwards was fit I’m sure he would start. Beyond me why Foyth Nkoudou KWP can’t play in these games.

Glad Eyoma is at CB today but don't know why they couldn't put Hinds at RB

I don't think we would need to play Edwards to stop us getting relegated we've got more than enough talent we just keep playing experimental sides and mixing things up to keep things challenging. While it's not ideal, if they are actually using Edwards for something they believe will benefit his integration into the first team, they wouldn't prioritise an u23 match over that. If Edwards is now training for the first team, they won't allow him to play this match. Would be nice if its because may feature Saturday

The same way where I said I would rather our academy boys play for the 1st team against APOEL rather than playing to help finish top of our UYL group

If we're to have a normal sized age group could see both FBs being released, with Patterson and Cirkin there plus the fact most players can be moved to FB if you need cover. That would give us 14 including one keeper. For selfish reasons to keep a manageable group I'd release one of Glean or Cooper, and really try and go for Knight or Carvalho.

Cooper I've heard is decent although I haven't seen him in person. It would be extremely weird, though, to have paid a fee to Southend for an U16 and not offer him a scholarship. Monroe has also only just joined so, again, I would imagine is also in the frame although we're kind of sorted at Right Back, so we'll see - he can play further forward but so can our other right backs other than Patterson. Glean I've seen nothing of but again heard he was quite decent and to be honest I bolded him by mistake. Darcy has indeed been with us for yonks but like you haven't heard much for quite a while. Gray I really don't see getting a scholarship.

I've been told that Rio Glean may be on a trial at Southampton at the moment. If true, makes sense and was someone I think could/should be released to make manageable age group, though would like us to go after another talented attacker to add depth to that area

The number of times we gift opposition goals (or at least clear cut goalscoring opportunities) by playing out from the back is infuriating.

I am all for implementing the mentality of playing the game the right way, and moulding them for the first team, but how many times does it have to fail in a game before we decide it doesn't work against the opposition and ditch it?

I've seen it so much now I'm numb to it. The only time I get frustrated is when the 18s have a chance to score or counter and they pass it back. Parents and fans get livid. It shows that the coaches really just do not get about results in this competition and generally and I can see what they mean, they won't develop anyone from going long and clearing. I don't think anyone will lose that ability but they won't make our first team if they can't deal with passing out in intense pressure. It can be so frustrating but as I said above they don't care if we get relegated they believe we will make better players this way and they haven't got it wrong so far.

I think you can tell though when they are serious about a competition we don't faff around e.g FAYC and UYL you won't see us do it to this extreme, we take those a lot more seriously

I wish we would stop playing Marsh at RB or CB.

He is definitely more suited to CB than RB, especially when we have Hinds who could do with the experience there. But there is zero need to play him at CB with all our options there.

Which reminds me, anyone know where Tanganga is?

Can't really moan about the commentary when we're watching the game on LCTV, but my word you'd think we were 7-0 down listening to this co-commentator go on!

Not watching this, haven't seen much of the youth teams the past year... But a question, would you not expect that, if this is a fundamental part of the philosophy/system they want our teams to play and are presumably coaching the kids throughout their time in the system, surely by this age group that they would a) have individuals comfortable with playing out from the back and b) the system itself looking fluid and not falling apart if put under pressure? Is something going wrong somewhere along the line.....
