Seems to me that most people are writing him off without really having seen him play because they've only known about him since he got to Barca.

At Valencia he was one of the highest rated CM's in europe. Why do you think he was bought by Barca in the first place? The issue is that Iniesta, Rakitic and Busquets are all ahead of him and he's really not had a chance to play. For Valencia he was excellent. He has a superb passing range, strong on the ball, athletic. He has everything in his locker to be a success in this country and can certainly pick a pass. His creativity would be useful so I'd be happy for us to take him.

With that said, I would've thought that this is just a re-hash of the story from the summer just to fill some column inches.

Look at Alcacer, another whom was outstanding at Valencia doesn’t get a look in. When he plays he tends to score as well.

Luis Enrique played him out of his regular postion on several occassions last season. RB, Left and right wing i.e. That don't do him any favours when you play in a position which you're not comfortable with.
I think that André Gomes needs to leave Barcelona to keep on buidling his potential. Barcelona bought him because he was one of the best players at Valencia but fell short in the pecking order at Barcelona. (Iniesta, Busquets, Rakitic)

I rate Gomes and hope that we can make a deal soon.

Considering that his agent is Jorge Mendes, I doubt this deal is even likely.

This is a great point. I'd be shocked if anyone would watch footage of him pre-Barca and not think he'd be a great signing. Tall, strong, skillful dribbler and passer and can score goals. Just watch a 'welcome to Barca' video and that's clearly a classy player the fans would love to watch (obviously youtube comps aren't the be all and end all but still).

Now there's always a worry that players that have been chewed up and spat out by the super clubs never reach those levels again (and he has been undeniably poor for Barca), but there are also examples like Rafa VDV where they can be superb after moving away. I think we should strongly consider either him or Denis Suarez on loan-to-buy if Barca offer it to make room for Coutinho.

Didn't the ITK last summer say we missed him because Barca failed on Coutinho? No that they have got him, let's hope we can work out a deal - although I expect that won't be until the next window.

May be the central midfielder Hercules was referring to for the summer.

One word of caution; Paulinho.

I actually think Gomes has had a rough time at Barca. Never gets a decent run and always out of position.

Matt Law of the telegraph mentioning Andre Gomes or Denis Suarez could be pursued on loan this window in his Kane piece.

Both worth pursuing IMHO, but I'd have thought there'd have been more ITK noise around it if true (although it was a pretty tough cryptic last window so maybe one kept under wraps).

I would completely take Suarez now with an option to buy and over Gomes, but i feel like every window we get linked to a Barca player and we never get them. Seems he might go on loan to Celta Vigo anyway.

Levy won’t deal with Mendes I believe or have I just made that up ?

Some ITK claimed that an agent of Jorge Mendes slapped a 100 milion pund price tag on Dele Alli despite Levy's claim that he weren't up for sale. Classic tactic to unsettle a player and that made Levy furious and won't deal with Jorge Mendes - allegedly

Agree, I think Denis Suarez would be the better option for us as he's more of an AM than a CM and was brilliant when he was at Villareal (5 goals and 13 assists in 48 games in all comps as a 21/22 year old). We were linked with him at that point but Barca ended up triggering his buy back clause because of how well he did that year. He's had 16 appearances in all comps this season, mostly from the bench, and still has 3 goals and 6 assists.

Both players are only 24 and both are very talented. We could do a LOT worse than either of them. I would be happy with either but would lean toward Suarez.
