I suspect FIFA will soon be looking into this kind of state owned football teams. They get very very pissy if there is any government involvement in running football or interfering with a football's association running of the game in their country. There is numerous examples of this.

I wouldn't be surprised if the other historically rich European football clubs have already lobbied UEFA about it (they've already had talks about not selling to Man City and PSG) and they go to FIFA.

Although I guess they never did anything to clubs like steaua Bucharest back in the 80s who had close links to their country's government but this is different as it effects these other huge but not as rich clubs directly. I can't see them standing for it.

FIFA won't do anything about it. Just look at where the next two world cups are going to be held.

That would be FIFA who are the bastions of fair play and anti-corruption? Dream on.

I'm at the stage with City where it doesn't matter what they do, how much they spend* or what they win. It doesn't matter. Like Chelsea before them and like PSG if I was a French fan. This kind of domination gets boring after a while, even for their own fans, especially as it's based on such dodgy finances - govt backing, inflated sponsorships from companies owned by their owners etc.

57m on another defender after already spending an absolute fortune on a defence over the last 4-5 years. Yeah, okay, whatever.

They are going to waste the young talent they have got there though, and that's the real shame. Players they have trained up, players who represent their country at U17-19 level or even below won't get a chance. Same as at Chelsea. It's just a factory.

* as long as it's not on any more of our players.

I totally agree with this. I know clubs like Liverpool and Manchester united have always spent big money on players, but it always seemed to be one or two players a season to improve the existing team. City have bought half a team again this season.

Yep. They will become numb to how easy things come to them. The moments that us Tottenham fans crave will become the status quo and just won't feel special. You see how dead the Etihad can be, it'll only get worse. I don't ever want that for us. No matter how many trophies you put in the cabinet.

Financial fair play 2.0 to be brought in this summer. City fans are not happy.

Wont work...

They will always look at the income for atleast 3 seasons... All the owners have to do is to adjust the price for the use of the "vip" box... This season 100M, next season the cost will be 300M and job done.

It's all legal since the club can charge what they want for seats. Still too many loopholes.

And they will also be banned from “stockpiling” players — with a limit of 25 pros over the age of 21 allowed on the books of any club.
And with this.. I can see prices the top 10-20% of players in the world will sky rocket... And more money will be thrown to kids to find the next big thing. Only for them to the cast aside once they hit the age ceiling.

Agree. Anything they achieve or win will always have an asterisk next to it as far as I'm concerned.

From the article:

If this includes players on loan, Chelsea are going to be flush with cash after all the selling they have to do...

They will but they have been using farming to get around ffp for years. Think they have made £106m from selling the players they loan out who never get a chance to play for them.

Been calling for a ban on loaning players over 21 for a few yearsnow. Glad yo see uefa doing something about it.

Not sure what you mean by the vip box.

Basically the new rules will be that you can only have a net spend of €100m a season. So if you spend €300m on players you have to sell €200m of players.

Great news. They should chuck in a salary cap too.

Also seems my very hopeful post at the top of the page might come true.

Salary cap would be awkward to impliment. Bonuses for getting into cl or winning the league could see clubs failing.
They already sort of do with a club limited by how much they can lose financially.
