The “spurs are useless against the top 6” line will be used again by sky to heap pressure on us before the game I suspect.

Poch was asked about it in his post match interview and you could see him go FFS this again. And that was after we’d just beaten one of them!

We're useless away against the top 6, that's a fact. What is it, 1 win in the last 15 games or something ridiculous?

We have a serious fear of going to the big clubs and playing our football, and we need to overcome it ASAP. A win against Liverpool or Chelsea would be a nice start.

I agree but it’s how it’s used by the media as a stick to beat us with (quite rightly). It was raised immediately after we beat Man U directly to the manager.

If we beat Liverpool though then hopefully it will be forgotten but I doubt it. There will be something else.

If we beat Liverpool they'll be saying "only 2 wins in 15... " etc etc in build up to the Arsenal match no doubt.

The away at top 6 thing is massively overstated in my opinion. Those are the 5 hardest games of the season. And games you shouldn't be expected to win, and where draws are good results. That our performance in them isn't that far off the others either yet, no one else gets beaten by that stick.

Agreed - and we're talking about 15 points against the other 5 teams away out of a possible 114 over the entire season. Yes they're big games against direct rivals/competitors for position - but league performance is measured over 38 games - not a handful.

Especially as we don't have anywhere near the resources of those teams, I mean is it an absolute shock that we tend to lose those matches, I don't think so. But people (mainly rival fans) bring it up because it's just another stick to beat the manager and team with just like the lack of trophies which are narratives that people like to push just because it suits their agenda.

I honestly believe the other clubs (fans) in the top 6 are massively jealous of us.

How can we possibly continue to compete with them on a minuscule of the money they have.

I personally think it is down to Poch but that is for another thread.

Assuming we lost the 5 away games, that also gives 3 points to each of our rivals which is an issue. 6 point games and all that.

Again, context. 6 pointers only really hurt us if our rival teams finish ahead of us, for the last two seasons we've finished ahead of the majority of our rivals for example. What matters when it's all said and done is total number of points you have.

Is it really a fear thing or is it that all the top 6 are typically good at home?

This seems like such a red herring to me, as if beating top 6 sides on their own turf is somehow commonplace and it's only us who don't do it. Fact is we usually beat those teams at home ourselves which already highlights how that's clearly not the case.

Genuine question but which of the top 6 are blowing away the other top 6 in away matches? I imagine most of the other teams away wins record look just like ours against top 6 rivals.

Exactly. Over the last few years we have generally lost against Liverpool yet always finish above them in the league. I just hope if we beat them twice this year the reverse doesn't happen!
