May I also add Doucore was the best player on the pitch by a mile last night, has looked very impressive this season. Could be a dembele replacement?

I'd say Gerry D was the standout player, but remains to be seen if he can do it consistently. Loved it when he was running away from Fabregas, Cesc looked like he was running through treacle.

But agree Doucoure was also exceptional (as per my above post)

I don't want us to sign any central midfielders bar Frenkie De Jong. I want Onomah back and brought through as the Dembele replacement. And with Dier, Wanyama, Winks, we have options.

Onomah has a long way to go to be considered a Dembele replacement, IMHO.

Not further than anyone else we could buy to be honest.

Really you think there aren’t CM in Europe that we could buy for £50m that aren’t better than Onomah? We have world class players in almost every position. If dembele isn’t at peak of his game it’s the glaring weakness.

While I am very much aboard the Onomah hype train, I am not so convinced this is true. I think if our options are to buy a 20 year old project or develop Onomah then we should 100% do the latter but to say there are no better options if this is our priority is a tough sell. If this position is a priority for us I don't see why we would not be willing to spend what we spent last summer on DS.

I don't see us bringing in a £50m player in central midfield. And I'm not sure what £50m would get us anyway. I think Onomah has everything to take that place. I'd rather we tried to bring him through than just spent a tonne of money.

His best showing was at the U20WC were he bossed the CM position. Its unfortunate that he hasn't been given the opportunity to keep playing in midfield to show his ability and develop further.

The Onomah who's barely performing and has been in and out of the side for Villa? I like him but it's starting to look more and more like he won't make it for us.

Really? You dont think anyone that we could bring in would be closer than a player who is struggling in the Championship?
I don't think Onomah is ready but I also don't think the logic that a player is not cutting it on loan means he won't make it for us is great. Plenty of players have done jack all on loan only to come back and make a place for themselves. Plenty have lit up loans on fire and come back tire fires of garbage. It's about the lessons learned and what they do with those lessons.

I agree Onomah has everything to take that place but I am less optimistic he has learned how to apply them and more than happy to he proven wrong.

People see Onomah unable to get into the villa squad and assume it's because he isnt quality or up to par. The truth isnt that simple. The reason Onomah doesnt get into Villa's first eleven is because he isnt suited for Villa's archaic brand of football.

That's why some posters, especially those who have watched him grow through the academy, are still so optimistic. We know that he is extremely talented and well suited for our style, while just needing a minor tactical adjustment in his defensive/off the ball game to fully reach his potential. He is just as talented as any high end CM prospect on the continent, English and would be free, it'd be a great shame if we cant transition him into the first team.

This, really don't think the villa loan has taught him the importance of getting his postioning right and to improve his off the ball work rate. Two major aspects of playing in the center of the park. By the summer we'll be splashing some 30-40 million on Lyon's version of Onomah, who had the opportunity to get better by playing and learning from his mistakes in a top developmental league.

So many issues, so little time.

Would you rather talk about how terrible Villa and Bruce are, or Harry Kane's spell on the subs bench on loan at then Championship side Leicester?
