Just exactly what has he created in the PL in appearances? Note, not in cup games.

Reminds me of the utter shite I got for posting that Gomes wasn't the best keeper in PL and I definitely wouldn't allow him to shag my wife! You ask yourselves where those posters are now? Oh, they've "moved on".

Lamela will have moved back to Italy within a year(check my predictions on offers for Toby - savage replies but then what happened? Oh yeah, a few days later City, Utd and Madrid reported interest).

The season we signed him from Italy, he'd scored 15 league goals, so you'd think he might score 10 league goals here. What's his record, despite injuries? Has he looked anywhere near that? Has he looked like near £30m? He's looked like Aaron Lennon, someone who

He's looked nearer Sissoko in expectations.
What a load of agenda driven balls. Comparing him to mediocrities like Howells and Stewart is pathetic. He may not be the Bale replacement we hoped for at the time, but his value to us, particularly in 15/16 when he registered a goal or assist every other league match, is obvious to all but the most bloody minded. At 26 he still has more than enough time ahead of him to become a great.
Here's one stat you might unlike: Lamela got nearly twice as many yellows in 15/16 as goals. He's as much chance of becoming a great as Shadydan has of posting something I might read.

What does that figure indicate to you? To me it's over-compensating for a lack of influence in games, compared to his quality in Rome.

He created the 6th most chances in the PL in 15-16, his last injury-free season.

Does it even matter that he hasn't scored too many goals - we have Kane, Eriksen, Alli and Son who can score - I'm fine with Lamela not being a prolific goalscorer as long as he's still creating chances for others.

Who gives a fuck that we spent £30m on him nearly 5 fucking years ago? Get over it. £30m would get you a much shittier player nowadays.

And congratulations for making some extremely difficult predictions in the past. Well done. Top man. I'm sure those posters who "moved on" are absolutely terrified of the great 'seanwhite1961'. In fact, I'm shitting myself writing this reply right now.
Shades of Biggus Dickus "wanks the highest in Wome!" with that first sentence. Lamela's left Rome to look rather lame in London.

Does it matter that I paid a guy to fix my washing machine, but he couldn't, so instead he did some washing up for the same money, then I paid another guy who did? By your logic it didn't and I should be lauding him for washing some dishes.

£30m would get you a much shittier player nowadays, wouldn't it? Like Lucas Moura.

No need to tell me you were shitting yourself. I could smell the shit from here.

Lamela hasn't scored as many as we'd hoped, but that is probably in large part down to injuries having wrecked nearly every season he's has with is. He has created loads of chances, and I think he's our best player in terms of through balls. His technique is exceptional (just watch the Bentaleb v Lamela 2-touch contest they did on tour: ). And most importantly he has an incredible work rate and attitude.

Yeah, an exceptional talent on the training ground. He has also shown that talent at Roma in games.

The former is common, players doing tricks, showboating etc and not transferring that skill to influence games. We all know Lamela has much more than that, we just haven't really seen it in PL games. He's looked out of his depth. It's demonstrated by his card tally v goals. That's why I predict he'll be back in Italy within a year.

You're acting as if Lamela can't play football. Just because he doesn't meet YOUR expectations, it doesn't mean that he's failed to meet the CLUB'S expectations.

Or Moussa Sissoko.

Fantastic comeback. I am well and truly shooketh.

Congratulations, as that's exactly not what I'm saying.

I don't doubt his level of skill and creativity - surely that's obvious from his last season at Roma and why we paid up to £30m?

What I doubt is that he's been comfortable here and able to translate that to the PL. The injuries have been a massive handicap. Even so, his propensity to dive into tackles and get cards, to me indicates overcompensation. It's easier for him to do that and get plaudits from fans - effort, commitment, plays for the shirt, the usual BS - rather than take more risks in taking on players and testing a keeper, characteristic of his play in Italy. Against Rochdale and the dregs of the Europa League isn't much of a test.

I do find it hard to think that the club's expectations were much different from mine or any fan. A record fee for a player that had many aspects of Bale, taking on defenders, driving hard, opening up play, creating and scoring.

Still, what you've lost with your Lamela, you've gained with your Eriksen.

Sooooooooo, re Lamela, should I be trusting seanwhite that he's not met expectations, or Ryan Mason who feels he is one of the reasons why Tottenham have improved and kicked on.....

To be fair we all had huge, possibly too huge, probably deluded expectations, but for all the injuries and setbacks it's great to hear how highly Mason rates him and how important a member of the squad he is.

Mason and Poch still have faith in Erik, and I'm with them.

Some of us think he does influence games, and in an extremely positive manner. Get the fuck over it.

No, don't trust seanwhite nor Ryan Mason.

Maybe look at both opinions, weigh up the evidence, and then find your own opinion.

Ryan Mason's opinion has no more weight than mine, if it's purely based on him being a former pro footballer who has played with Lamela. Unless I was mindlessly ranting without addressing any facts.

Let's refresh our memories of how absolutely no one foresaw the achievements of one Harry Kane. If there is one poster here who can retrieve a post that did, I'll have a shit on David Matzdorf's garden in June. That's worth £3 of anyone's money.

To put it simply, Mason was there, with Poch and Lamela, so his 'opinion' that Lamela had an awful lot to do with our change in fortunes, loves playing more than any player he's met, always gives 100% and trains as hard as anyone suggests to me that Erik will be in Poch's plans next year.

I think your opinion that he won't is that of an outsider looking in and the opinions of those inside looking out are have a lot more credence. Sorry.

No offense, but Ryan Mason's opinion is clearly more informed than most if not all on this site, including me and you, and therefore has more weight.

Think the important thing is that we support our players. We are called "supporters" for a reason.

Erik has come back from a long time out, a lot of it I feel was mentally as I kinda think he went into depression after losing his best friend. I know I will go though the same thing if I lose my best friend too.

At the moment he is compeititng for the same spot with Son, but both are pretty different in the style and what they bring to the team. I think he is still an important player for us. Moving forward we need a strong core of 22 to 24 players in our team, I think he will get better with more game time, and hopefully he will be ready for the next season.

ErikLamela is reportedly set to be left out of Tottenham’s matchday squad for Wednesday’s crucial Champions League showdown with Juventus amid claims Inter Milan are working on a deal to sign him.

According to The Times, Mauricio Pochettino is set to start with Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli at Wembley and behind Harry Kane, as Spurs look to reach the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of the Italian giants.

While Son’s inclusion at the expense of Lamela won’t come as a major surprise given the South Korean’s fine recent form, claims that the Argentine could be omitted all together will come as a surprise given the winger is something of a personal favourite of Pochettino.

The news comes after reports in Italian newspaper Tuttosport claimed Inter are keen to take advantage of the player’s contract situation, with the club’s sporting director Walter Sabbatini already sounding out his agent over a return to Italy.

Lamela currently earns a reported £65,000-a-week at Spurs, but the six-year deal he signed upon joining from Roma in August 2013 is due to expire in 2019.

Due to his struggles with form initially and then injuries more recently, the player is yet to sign a new deal and will be at a crossroads this summer when his deal has just 12 months left to run.

And with Inter reportedly opening talks to sign him, Pochettino has reportedly decided to leave him out of his side, and possibly his matchday squad, for the crunch last 16 second-leg clash.

The Argentine did start in the two clubs’ 2-2 draw last month and has made 139 appearances for the club in total since his £25.9million switch in the summer of 2013.

I'm one of these rare species of Lamela supporters amongst Spurs fans so I really do hope he get a new contract and hit the ground running next season after a full preseason. I think our attack is now stacked with really good talent and at the same time very balanced - each of those players have some unique assets for the team - and Lamela surely has those assets too.

Surely nonsense. I can't believe we would leave out a key member of our squad for our biggest game in years just because another club might want to sign him, not even during the transfer window.

Really? I like Lamela but the other day someone got torn apart for saying Lamela hasn't lived up to expectations, I'd say your very much in a vocal, vociferous majority mate

I'd say the times are unlikely to just make something up that, they have nothing to gain as they'd just be proved wrong in a few hours

It probably will turn out to be true but they are just mindlessly guessing at the reason why and are bullshitting about the transfer part, maybe a small injury setback or something is more likely
