Can say that it was a lack of experience etc. but what ultimately cost us was the lack of a strong referee... They should have been down to 9 men (Barzagli and Pjanic should have been off) and 3 minutes of stoppage time at the end?... Should have been at least 5... but hey, UEFA got one of their establishment clubs through so who cares...

I really have no idea why we are soooo hated.. Fans from other clubs even bothered coming into our social media posts and slag us.. Like seriously?

But I still like them jealoused.. I am starting to think we are the best-run club at the moment..
I'm not sure we are that hated really. Fans from other clubs, those that use social media, tend to hop across all teams posts and write negative speil. Its just the culture these days and certainly not specific to Spurs.

Speaking personally, I have had Everton, Liverpool, Man City and even a Shrewsbury fan come up to me at work to offer condolences. They were all supporting us and respect what we have built.

I agree but we got away with a nailed on peno against us so I think the ref was just shit in general rather than on the take!

Call me biased but I'm not convinced that the Vertonghen Costa incident was a pen, only one bit of concrete contact and that was after the initial tackle when Costa had decided to throw himself to the ground. However, you can balance it with the two handballs, the Benatia one right at the start was a stone waller, not so much the Chiellini one.

And they knew how to use that better than we did, that's CL experience I'm sure we'll have learnt from it.

I've seen so much praise of Allegri among forums and pundits this morning and I don't really buy it. Every analysis done with the benefit of hindsight of course and with little or no regard to how complex these tactical decisions are in real time.

Our game plan was working perfectly until their first goal and the second goal came just minutes after. So you're proposing that Pochettino should have subbed on Wanyama or gone three at the back as soon as Asamoha and Lichetensteiner came on? Higuan scored in the 64th minute, that's 4 minutes after Lichtenstein came on (...which was the sub that really changed the tide of the match imo). I'd understand the criticism if we would have seen tendencies of Juventus actually creating chances before the first goal but there wasn't in my opinion. That goal came from nowhere and completely changed the match.

A more cynical coach might have changed things directly after their first goal. I can understand that viewpoint and it would probably have been the right call but you can't blame Pochettino for not being tactically aware for the first goal. Unless you're proposing that we should have parked the bus directly in the second half but that could have been equally devastating as it might have left oceans of time for Juventus to just go at us.

If Allegri is such a mastermind we wouldn't have outplayed them for 60 minutes. We football fans put far too much emphasize on tactics sometimes. You could as easily just point out that one of Dier / Sanchez / Vertonghen should have had his eyes pinned at Higuain for their first goal - just as Chiellini had his on Kane. For their second goal our press play didn't work and Higuain was allowed put a dangerous through ball down our back four and furthermore Trippier stopped tracking Dybala because he deemed it an offside. Individual errors? Tactical nuance? It's probably a combination of both but the latter usually gets far too much attention.

What ultimately let us down was inexperience. Even though Juventus were pressed back they kept they calm and took their chances when they occurred and then closed the match. All in all we have to consider how far we've come as a club, we've had a tremendous CL run considering the opponents we drew. I'm certain we'll learn from this and I can guarantee you that no team will cheer if they draw us next year in the CL.

IMO, bringing on Lichsteiner was a pivotal moment but the warning signs were there right from the start. Costa was giving Davies a torrid time and I for one expected him to play on the left against Trippier. We never really got to grips with it and seemed to let it ride because Son was getting loads of space behind Costa. However, Lichsteiner immediately caused a major overload on that side and we suffered the consequences. If Son had taken the chances he got it would have been Allegri's tactics being called into question.

I agree on everything apart from the difference in quality, tonights result was decided by small margins.

When the game changer brought on is Lamela i would beg to differ.

Good as the team is we are still two or three players away from winning a trophy.

Lets see how the season ends in a couple of months time?

Meh I'm pretty much over it now, I'd be more devastated if we didn't have any more opportunities to win a trophy this season.

You're right. It would be worse if we didnt have such a good shot at lifting the FA cup.

I think the lads will be right up for winning that and trying to finish 2nd again in the league.

I'm know there wasn't loads of contact but I'm old school and imo if the defender slides in, doesn't get any of the ball and causes the defender to lose his balance or fall then it should be a pen.

I was sat in block 533 so staring directly at it and in real time I thought it was a stone waller (I actually shouted no and had my head in my hands and couldn't believe it when it wasn't given) but I agree the replay blurs matters somewhat.

Interestingly I wonder if Juve scoring first might have had a positive effect on the game.

There was a second armball by Chiellini in the second, the ball went under him when he made a block tackle and his wrist made definite contact.

Some very peculiar post-mortems happening both on here and in the media today.

We fought a great campaign, beat Dortmund twice, beat Real Madrid once, secured strong draws in both Madrid and Turin, and ultimately went down fighting against arguably the best team in Europe.

On paper we had no right to get this far, but we did, and we took it to the wire.

Now we focus on top 4 and the FA Cup and go again next season.

This is the best we've looked in my lifetime, and in gay years I'm clinically dead.

Come on you Spurs.

There's no player we could've realistically sign that would've significantly changed what happened yesterday.
It was down to luck and experience. I know everyone is talking about Juve's experience, but they were also really lucky

We lack experience in this kind of games. We'll get there though (if we continue to qualify)

Really proud of us. We'll be better next season.

It was def a pen. The same for the Chiellini handball. The Benatia one was unintentional. He headed the ball that bounced afterwards in his arm. Chiellini deliberately moved his arm to block the ball

Gaz, it's a tough one. IF Moura, Rose, Victor, Toby and even Lamela are match fit, we have fantastic options off the bench but being match fit is the prob

Indeed. If we want to win the Champions League, I think we must accept a few results like that along the way.
