27-9 lol

So this test is over after an hour with one to play. And people have flown out there to watch this. I feel so sorry for them.

Well this is all going very well, isn't it.

Why don't we just swap the rugby and cricket teams over?

We'd still get stuffed by New Zealand, but it would be much more fun.

Give Overton a knighthood.

What's the point of these day/night tests? Nobody is at the ground and it's denied England fans some evening cricket viewing......not such a bad thing for this test but still.

New Zealand are at home very much better than people seem to think. If England underestimated them then well they got their just desserts

they are good, but not 9/27 good

it was funny to watch but I'm sure you guys were not laughing and you cant blame the pitch as NZ conditions are very similar to English conditions and the Kiwis are going OK with the bat despite batting at night time with the pink ball

it really was some decent line and length bowling on a greentop with enough swing to add to the damage, they were only bowling at just above 130 ks

They are very good at bowling in these conditions with an attack which I think is well suited to them. I have not seen the game but have watched NZ a bit recently in other series and been impressed with their ability to get the most out of what they have

As we all seem to write every series, yet more evidence that change is needed, but that those running the show will almost certainly ignore and keep muddling along as usual.

A massive problem for me is the system and that we're not producing batsmen with test match temperament, or bowlers with variety and a bit of x-factor, but whether that is the case or not the culture of the Test team stinks. Far too indulged and held to mediocre standards.

I find it difficult to see how people like Strauss and Bayliss (red ball at least, white ball cricket he can stay if he wants) keep their jobs. Someone needs to get a grip on things.

The team has been out there for nearly five months, as poor as we've been there are no excuses for that village performance it's completely moronic scheduling.

Fuck all between Stokes, Root and Cook. They've got a lot to answer for.

Bunch of gutless pricks.

Well, we'll see how tough Root is going to be as a captain after this shitshow. Surely there will have to be changes when the summer tests come around. Surely :cautious:

If we can find players better, or with the potential to be better, than the ones we've got.

I can't find the appropriate rating for this post, since WTF doesn't seem to cover it, or even come close.

You really truly think that this admittedly lousy innings justifies your assessment of those three players?

The "gutless pricks" comment was more directed to the whole lot of them.

But tbh no it's not good enough. Regardless of preparation, coaching, selection. For 3 players of that seniority and quality to make nothing is inexcusable in a test cricket match.

It's not as if we're even against the Aussies or West Indies in their pomp. I mean NZ are decent but hardly world beaters.

I don't see how anyone can justify that display. It was totally spineless.

Well, that young Lancashire opener would be a good start. Habeeb is it? He's been very unlucky with injuries but if he's fit, put him in, he's shown he's got the nads for it.

Woke up, switched on the wireless as I sat down with my breakfast, flipped the table, made a second lot of breakfast, drove in to work thinking how much I appreciate my Scottish relatives deciding I will identify as Scottish from now on because at least they fucking try.

I think everyone, selectors included, agree with that. But after his broken finger got better he didn't score any more than I would have done so it was a tour too early.

Livingstone's another who will come in I think. But the tour party for the Ashes and this series is difficult to argue with, even when they're 27/9 !

Forgot this Test series had even started. Woke up this morning to find we’d been bowled out for 58. Truly pathetic. Even more pathetic when I saw the actual dismissals.

Think it could get worse for our Test team before it gets better to be honest. Particularly when Anderson calls it a day.

Need a total rethink, starting with the coach. He’s done well for the limited overs game, but the Test side is going from bad to worse.
