Wouldn't be at all surprised by this, given the latest comments ive just read regarding Kane. I did fully expect Kane to start, but Poch mentioning the fact Kane needs to be assessed and has played a lot of games since injury has the vibe of when he was rested against Swansea in a similar situation earlier in season.

Kane is clearly not fit and the way we play we can't carry people. I think playing a false number nine adds to our pressing, covering the midfield and allowing runners space. Of course a fit Harry Kane must always start but it seems like a good idea to rest him for the big game on Saturday. Winning a trophy has to trump the personal achievement being top scorer, again

I really don't see Kane being able to play Tuesday and Saturday effectively. He looks far from match fit. I also have wanted us to go 4141 for a while so would like to see this...

Lloris
Aurier Sanchez Verts Davies
Vic
Moura Eriksen Dele Son
Lamela
It's a toss up between Lamela and Son starting up front and I would also be tempted to try Dele up there. Essentially I would want them rotating. I'm also assuming Rose isn't fit otherwise he would start.

Doubt we’ll change formation , but I think we’ve been at our best with three at the back. Would love Toby to get back in and play the remaining games especially against United. I’d change it about for Brighton and go...

I remember the reverse fixture back just before Christmas. Brighton defended resolutely for the main part, fortunate loopy cross type thing from Aurier gave us the lead. Son finished the job just before full-time.

Certainly a team that could frustrate us...hopefully those selected overcome this obstacle and allow for another 3 points to be added to our tally.

Given Poch has said he’ll freshen things up I’d go with:

............................ Lloris ............................

Aurier.... Alderweireld..Vertonghen... Rose

........................ Wanyama ...........................

................... Alli............. Eriksen ..................

...... Moura......... Kane ....... Son ............

Lloris needs to rebuild his confidence, Poch has alluded to Alderweireld being in the squad, Aurier is a given following Tripps recent pants outing, Rose to play if he’s fit, Wanyama is also a given if Poch opts for Dier and Dembele v Man U, Moura is desperate to play and more importantly he deserves to play, Son needs to regain a little confidence and will give us balance either side of Kane along with Moura, Alli and Eriksen are vital to our fluidity and Kane needs match fitness and goals if he wants to catch Salah.

Really don't see why we should change to a back 3, when have we even had a back 3 this season? I swear it hasn't been too often. We've dominated United and Arsenal at home, got a well deserved draw at Anfield and beaten Chelsea away with 4 at the back. I like a back 3, I just can't see how we can campaign to see it at this moment in time though.

If Poch changes it that much and we don't beat Brighton, I'll (rightly so IMO) be thinking why the fuck would he have changed it when we're not really in the need of a change.

2 issues:

3 at the back means sacrificing an attacking player
Needing 3 centre backs against Brighton is overkill... they should be petrified off us, not us being overly cautious

Reasonable form or not, we should be blowing Brighton away.

Playing 3 at the back has produced some of our best attacking performances, it's not a defensive formation, it depends on balance and it just so happens that we were better balanced playing the 3-4-3 last season.

I don't really advocate changing formation anyway, we should have enough to beat Brighton beating them with a 3 or a 4.

Reason we haven’t played alot is because Toby got injured and then we’ve had his contract situation.
We have played some of our best football with 3 at the back, especially last season when we were excellent.
We smashed Real Madrid, Dortmund(h+a), Liverpool home this season etc.
A real shame we didn’t have the chance to play it against Juventus.
Playing 3 at the back isn’t a defensive formation either!! If there wasnt a problem with Toby (injury/contract) I’d be going back to it for the rest of the season.
Everyone has their own preference and mine is 3 at the back.

I like having the ability to change to it if we've needed to and it's not that I don't like the setup or that I don't wan't to see it again, it's just that now would be a really strange time to change up the way we play in that manor IMO. It's just potentially ruining the flow we have for no apparent reason. Plus by having 4 at the back it allows us to have Son in the starting 11 who's influence can still sometimes be underrated I find. The only attacking player in the team who will run past players and look to get in behind with speed.

I have seen this 4141 formation preferred by a lot of people, and I am not saying I don’t like it - very attacking and gives players like Lucus a chance and Harry a rest.
But when have we used it this season ( I can’t think of any?). I know it seems popular but I don’t think Poch will use it. I see 4231 or 4244 with Lamela as a false 9.
The other thing I would say is looking at the run in, I only see Chelski possibly losing one game, and that could well be a draw at home vs Liverpool. So if we lose tomorrow it could be squeaky bum time. So I’m not sure we can afford to experiment at this time of the season. Can see Kane on the bench though!

I agree with the first part but would say Lucas and Lamela both have the ability to get behind teams with skill and some speed. But yes when Son is on song he is great at it, problem is he has he’s off days also.
I think that is what’s let us down this year, we always have a couple of players who aren’t Quite at it every match. We need players like Kane, Eriksen, Dele to be at it all the time, and they are not. Some games they just go totally missing, it’s not that they are just not having the best day, all players have that, but they just seem to be totally off it altogether! Although Eriksen has done better this season.
I think that is why City have done so well, most of the season all their players have just had good games. Even with the blip I don’t think they played particularly badly it’s just the other teams were really really good those days.
Anyway I hope Lucas gets a start tomorrow and Lamela also.
