Yes, but the writing is on the wall to be 2 - come tomorrow. Liverpool don't need to worry since we slipped up.. CFC will be going all out to make it 2 pts.
Lpool also in CL final so that’s another avenue to qualifying next year.

If my math is correct, the best result is Liverpool winning and still being 5 up on Chelsea for fourth.

Then all we need is 1 point from the following two and even if Chelsea win their final two, we go through on GD unless Chelsea go off on their final two opponents.
This.

We would still finish 4th even if we only picked up 2 more points and Chelsea managed to get 7 points from their last 3.

We’re home and dry boys!
And if Chelski win today?
Same ole same ole on here, home and dry my arse. The way we have played in the last 3 games we could easily lose one of our home games, teams will sit very deep and try and snatch one from a corner of something. It is like our players have the same attitude as you also, swanning around expecting other teams to lose at home ( Chelski) and us to win away( West Bromwich) and it just hasn’t happened. We badly need a win vs Newcastle and will probably need a draw on the last day of the season to be Home and Dry!
The same West Brom that are bottom of the league, and have 43 points fewer than us? That West Brom? Are you microdosing?

6 weeks ago, i think everyone would be extremely confident. Since stamford bridge we have looked slow and ponderous and totally bereft of confidence, hence the meltdown. We seem so brittle.

If we HAVE TO get a result i have very little confidence that the team as its currently playing can dig it out and get that result. So, I'd like Liverpool to help us over the line by beating chelsea this afternoon.

Depends if you put it in context. Can’t argue we haven’t looked great. But I don’t think we are performing terribly. We could have easily nicked it yesterday. Foster knew nothing about that save. We lost to an exceptional city side. We lost a 50/50 game to united. We drew to a very well organised Brighton team that have just beaten united. And lost to a WBA team that are on a miraculous run. Clearly it’s not ideal but we easily could have won all those games bar city. As said we aren’t playing well but we are still creating chances and aren’t conceding shed loads of goals. I’d still rather be in our position than Liverpool in regard to top 4.

Great post, nice to see a bit of perspective.
Sure if we now don’t get a win in our final 2 home games we can all agree it’s been a pretty poor run of form and end of season but as you say end of the day we’ve not played horrifically, man.u cup semi could’ve gone either way, West Brom fighting for their lives and on brilliant run of form, if not for some Foster saves we’d have run away with it, just as shame as if we’d won that one we’d pretty much be over the line and could rest a few players before the WC but they’ll have to keep going and it looks to me like some of them are at 80% we don’t want to burn out or get injured.

Anyway hopefully Liverpool won later and then were prettt much all good

2 of Newcastle players are on goals on Sunday( London studio). After playing Watford you’d think they will be staying in London till weds. Hopefully 3 days shopping in London puts them in holiday mode.

I’ve a feeling the players thought it was all done with that Chelsea win. I can’t think of anything else that would cause them to take the foot off the peddle.

Typical though isn’t it, even a point yesterday would have helped us enjoy today’s game a little bit more. Now we are really reliant on Chelsea not picking up any points.

Both our last 2 opponents will up their games, and us being so predictive of late will struggle. Chelsea to win today, us neck deep in shit.

I completely agree, I said that before that you could make a case for our last five or so games being hard with us having City, United, Brighton and Stoke away, 2 teams fighting for their lives. But then came the Watford game and that's what had me worried, a home game against a team who had a terrible recent and general away record and we should have lost really, it made me wonder just how much of our poor performances against Brighton and Stoke were down to their fighting nature or our inability to play well. As a result that's why I'm so nervous and really hopeful that Liverpool get something today because I just don't know where we're at currently.

A draw would still be a great result though. A defeat would have me feeling incredibly optimistic but a draw would still mean that a win against Newcastle would guarantee qualification, unless I'm mistaken!

The way we're playing Im not confident we'll get another win. Especially if Poch keeps playing silly buggers with team selection.

I never thought I'd hear myself saying that I want Liverpool to win the day after we lose, but right now, that's exactly what I want !!!!

fair enough but I don't agree with the UTD game.......I thought as soon as the equaliser went in it sucked the life out of us, and we never looked like we would get back in the game. It was a horrible performance.

there's is some merit in saying this team were fighting for their lives, we didn't get the run of the ball, the goalkeeper had the game of his life etc etc, but the best teams know how to grind a game out and find a way to win. We seem to know how to find a way to lose - at least since the chelsea game. Before that I would have put money on us beating almost anyone

Its not even us bottling it. We are just totally out of form. Its either mental fatigue or physically fatique or both.

Maybe we put so much thought and effort away at chelsea and the emotion of beating them at their ground in 28 years has fucked us. Could also be one eye on the WC

I just feel that there is to much over reaction before the Chelsea match has even kicked off.

if Chelsea win, I will get a little bit more nervous, but people posting that we will struggle v Newcastle, yet forget that Chelsea play them there, and haven't beaten Newcastle since 2011/12. Also remember some of their players might be rested for it with the FA Cup final the week after. Liverpool won't be easy as they know if they lose, they can miss out on a CL place. They can't take it for granted that they will beat Brighton, and Liverpool only need 1pt to confirm CL football next season

if we can get the 1st goal v them on Wednesday then I don't feel we will lose, and as they have absolutely nothing to fight for, they won't stick 11 men behind the ball and try and scrap a draw. I see this very similar to the Watford game, the only difference being the players KNOW they can't afford to not try, they will know how important that the CL is important to take into the new stadium.

just because Newcastle beat us 2 years ago, doesn't mean they will this season, and at the moment I just don't see why Leicester will all of a sudden start playing when they have done very little in their last 5 matches.

@yankspurs over-reacts on any bad result, I only react if the result actually ENDS any hope(y)

Big difference with playing Newcastle this time as opposed to two years ago is we bought their best player...

People suggesting liverpool will try hard to win are kidding themselves

They have a champions league final, they will coast till the end of the season and concentrate on the final

Its not even a must win as they could lose tomorrow and win their final game against a team playing for nothing and still finish above chelsea as their goal difference is much better

They will give everything for today for the win so that they can fully concentrate on the CL
