There was a point in time that I was convinced Klopp would end up there and I think he'd have done better than he has so far at Liverpool.

Interestingly back in 2015 I suggested to one of my gooner pals that Arsene should go and they should get Pep while they can, he refuted, saying that Wenger is still the man. It's amazing that some of them were so blind to everything.
How is Ty?

Seems, if the rumours are true, as if they are going down a route that no team (well, in England at least) have yet - and one I have considered myself in some of my posts in the past, so it interests me. They have their Head Scout/Transfer Guy in place to find the right players, they've appointed someone else to look after the rest of the 'Football Operations', whoever follows Wenger is coming in it seems to just purely coach the first team and focus all energies on that. They slot into their place in the structure and do their job, coach coach and coach some more, rather than as a manager being the traditional dominant figure of the club.

So I wouldn't be surprised at all if they go for someone less heralded, or maybe has spent his career as an assistant. If it does indeed happen like this then I am sure they will get plenty of ridicule, it is a big gamble to do it, but I like to see risks taken in football - even if it is our rivals.

Let's face it, Tuchel already signed for PSG and Allegri ruled himself out of the job already so it's gonna be an apprentice, there's no money to spend at the moment and everyone can see what a massive job it's going to be to steady the ship and turnaround their form, I think they have really fucked themselves up personally.

Agree. They've fucked up royally by letting Wenger hang around well past his sell-by date so all the big names they might've been able to get in have joined new clubs already, and now they've let it get to the point where they had no choice but to pull the trigger even though there's nobody that's really suitable available. Monumental fuckup all round I reckon.

I think also it's a frightening job. You go to Chelsea, City or United you have a set up underpinning the big money spending. Spurs and Liverpool you have a project. Arsenal? Wenger was so ingrained in that club that there is now a massive gulf. Unlike any other top six club it needs a total reinvention....and all while surrounded by fans who expect a title challenge/win. Any new manager going in there is facing a task bigger than probably any top six manager in decades.

A mate told me that he met Bellerin in a vegan restaurant, shook his hand and said, "Mind the gap, fourteen points!" Bellerin retorted, "In how many years?", and then shook his head. I'd have asked him when the last time was that there was a fourteen point gap.

Fair play to him tbf.

Someone else made the point and I agree with it. It’s never really been successful in English football. We probably came the closest to it with Arnesen/santini/jol but we never really got to see how it would pan out thanks to Chelsea. The trouble with this way is that the coach/manager has an easy way out of it goes wrong. He just says I didn’t chose the players.

The transfer committee and normal manager signing off the players now seems to be the chosen way forward by clubs like us, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea. Unless the new arsenal man operates in this fashion then it won’t work.

The guy who can’t play in cold countries?

That’s going to pan out well. Actually, he’s a typical arsenal player then. Carry on!
It’s ok, Stoke have been relegated. Nobody has to worry about the weather in England now. Especially on a Tuesday evening.

The powers that be at Arsenal clearly want to gain control now that Wenger has gone. They're already bidding for players before they've even replaced him so it looks like they just want a coach rather than a manager as it doesn't seem Arteta isn't gonna have the final say in who they buy, which other managers would insist on.

I just can't see it working unless Arteta has some sort of say in who comes in. Surely he'll have a preferred way of playing and he'll want players that fit into that as much as possible. I know the DoF team will be aware of that but at the end of the day Arteta has to be sure of the character of a certain player etc surely.

It might not go wrong, but I think if it does it will go very wrong.

Surely even if you have a DoF there's some sort of "transfer committee" that would involve the head coach. They might not have the final say but they'd at least have a say in what type of player they needed etc.
