I would have thought this new guy is back up, rather than an upgrade

That said, I'd have also thought that they would have a young RB coming through, to act as back up

Not a shocking signing in and of itself, but if it sets the precedent of trawling the bargin-basement for freebies, then Arsenal fans are in for a rude awakening

If we brought in a 34 yr old on a free as a back up right back people on here would be going mental. Would city do it or united no. Sets a tone imo that they are looking for bargains. Even though he hasn’t been a roaring success we still spent £25m on a back up RB. It’s ironic with the tweets all over twitter by them” spurs will fall away like we did with new stadium”. Actually seems we will be spending more than them this window.

Very "West Hamsy" and not very inspiring.

Overall I agree

But what about someone like Dani Alves as back-up? He's 35

I think most of us would be okay with someone like that

He used to be an alright player and also a bit of a **** so someone they probably need.

He used to thrive in the 3-5-2 that Juve played where he had the run of the entire wing & Barzagli keeping it all tidy behind him (Pirlo lofting it over the top of the opposition defence to him rushing into the box was a great little tactic), but in a 4 at the back his defensive deficiencies are exposed, and that was before he was getting over the hill.

Signing a 34 yr old on a free and a very average Greek 29 for £15m is not exactly showing great ambition. Considering they have a new manager. And ties in with the £50m transfer budget quoted.

Hardly call him a journeyman

He's regularly played for one of the best clubs in Europe for the past 5 seasons

Ok been at Dortmund for 5 years but had 5 or 6 clubs before that. Anyways with these level of signings they will be lucky to hold onto 6th. If they arent backing a new manager with serious signings then imo they are in big trouble.

The window has barely opened. Not every signing can be a galactico.

My theory is, that they have money but they see Emery as a stop gap, they don't trust him.

If they've only got a 50m "war chest" as was reported then these are the kind of signings they're going to be making. Nowadays 50m barely gets you even 1 top-4 level player let alone a whole squad rebuild
