I know Hercules has stated otherwise but this really doesn't feel like a Poch signing. We've had no links with this lad until the past week or two (when he's suddenly become cheaper) - maybe Levy has suggested it and Poch has given the go ahead, but this hardly feels like 'being brave' - at least not in the way we all thought being brave meant!

I actually think he's a good prospect but if there's one position where we don't need a 'prospect' it's attacking midfield.

Watched him quite alot this season wanting him to do crap so onomah could get on but in fairness he has been villa's best player in most games.cheap and home grown so can understand the appeal.much better technique than the likes of sissoko.would still prefer maddison as think hes a better passer.not too many goals in him either but think we have enough goal threats in the side

We've been linked for years

Quick question - have you ever seen him play? Ever? Just curious.
I haven't but I have seen Lamela play and I know how our team operates. When does this kid get games when Lucas and Lamela are healthy?

Can't say I have access to Aston Villa games over here in the states. But I think I'm plenty qualified to have an opinion on where we should spend our resources and I don't think AM from the championship is where we should be aiming as a top 3 premier league club. Do you think fans of United, Man City, Liverpool, or Chelsea would be pumped about this deal? Hell I don't think Chelsea fans were even excited about Barkley.

My frustration with this is that we already have a back up #10 in Lamela and would be better placing these funds in another area.

There's very little risk in this deal and a good amount of positives, but it's just such a meh signing. I now see what the ITK meant

I would suspect a Spurs scout was also watching the games to see how Josh was going to do. If the word has got back that freakish was performing then that may have been the reason.

Whether you like it or not, we need Eriksen backup.
Whether you like it or not. Comparing Grealish to somebody worthy of tying the shoelaces of Eriksen is as if I wanted red wine but opted for mixing some red food colouring in a glass of tap water.
Also know as exactly the kind of move we should not do for once.

If he's Eriksen's primary back up we'll still be in big trouble if he ever gets injured.

He's a decent enough creator:

That's pretty much unavoidable though isn't it? With our transfer budget there's no way we can afford what it would take to sign a player who would be good enough to slot in for Eriksen without skipping a beat, just to have that player sit on the bench.

We're in the market for a backup, and buying a young homegrown talent who nearly dragged his team to promotion playing the best football of his life for well below his actual market value fits the bill. I'm not hugely bullish on Grealish as a player but I am bullish on this deal from a business perspective.

Young, HG, can play in the pivot and be cover for Eriksen which we need and all for a low risk price

Don’t see the problem

will obviously get a better return on goals and assists in a better team, just hope the lad can be patient for his chances, which i assume wont be a hell of a lot.

We need to understand what type of club we are. This is way more our sort of signing than any big names. Poch likes a young squad he can mould and we have a modest wage budget.

I personally think having the likes of Winks, Onomah and Grelish as midfield back up is quite exciting. Its what football should be about not a millionaires millionaires version of top trumps.

Son - Lamela - Lucas behind Kane is plenty of creativity and attacking power when Eriksen is out.

That's not true. We've been linked with him every summer since 2015, but been fortunate not to buy him until now.

You turn the bench and your options are Grealish or Sissoko. Who do you choose? Maybe he's not so meh after all...

The boy has talent, just needs a manager to harness it. We all know Poch can be that man
